  1. I do not follow Hockey - so help me a little - how does that work? So they are drafted in the 10th round by the Bruins. They go to college for 4 years and at the end they just have to report in "spring training" for work with Boston and don't get drafted? Hockey is a bit odd. All players who will be 18 years old on or before September 15 and not older than 20 years old before December 31 of the draft year are eligible for selection for that year's NHL Entry Draft. In addition, non-North American players over the age of 20 are eligible. However, if a player doesnt sign a contract he can re-enter the draft. However, once they are over 20 they are no longer able to be drafted and can only become free agents. This basically makes it so most high school kids/young adults sign a contract with the team that drafts them. Then that team holds the rights to the player throughout their college career. If after one year of playing college hockey that player decides to turn pro, he does and goes right to that team. It is interesting to see some players playing in the NCAA tournament and then join their pro team for the end of the season/playoffs. Many players are drafted when they are playing 'juniors'. This is basically a league before heading to college. Then they go to college and once the college season is over they can join the big club or get sent to the minors. EDIT:I am pretty sure my numbers are correct, I didn't look them up recently and have only talked with a friend of mine who wasn't drafted and is basically in the free agent aspect of it.
  2. Yes, NHL teams retain draft rights of players who go to college. I think this would be something that MLB should look into.
  3. It has to be the smile. He even had one poster on this board fooled.
  4. Saw this thread on top and thought I'd throw in a random piece of personal info. My brother just got a call from WWE and will be joining them in Minneapolis on the 9th and in Green Bay on the 10th(I believe those are the dates). No idea what he will be doing, or what it all entails, but maybe this will open some doors for him.
  5. I believe he can be traded to another team, but that team must keep him on their active roster.
  6. I cannot speak directly to baseball, or even children for that matter as I have none of my own, but I do coach tennis and give private lessons. I would echo what Patrick had to say. I give lessons to a variety of ages and they all started at about 8 years old. One of them is currently playing regional tournaments and taking extra lessons at a club. Another just comes to see me once a week and is content on learning the game. I would suggest asking your son what he would like to do.
  7. It seemed like a tight strike zone and Estrada was leaving a lot of pitches in the zone. \ It had seemed that Thornburg was leaving everything up in the zone recently. I wasnt able to check out the game yesterday, but was he hitting the lower part of the zone?
  8. I think they are content with Davis getting the majority of starts. I have a hard time believing he is going to miss many at bats, even if we/I think he needs it.
  9. Gameday shows the second pitch WAY in the strikezone to Schierholtz.
  10. While I do agree it was a mistake, isnt it also the 3rd base coaches job to go over different situations with him? I mean all Sedar has to do is say, ground ball in the infield break for home. Now, maybe that did happen and Rickie still messed it up.
  11. How about, "Way to earn that run right back Sanchez." Sometimes the hitters win. Happens.
  12. 2-26 Stinks I got to post after you! Im anticipating a 13-15 stretch with the bullpen cooling down but the offense picking up a bit.
  13. In extra innings, yeah. But I can't remember the last time I saw a position player pitch in the eighth. I agree with another poster in saying it is typically not extra innings. However, I was wrong about once or twice a month. It is usually about 5 times per year according to bref. I thought I remembered the Yankees or Red Sox using a position player earlier this year.
  14. I'd say this happens about once or twice a month throughout the entire MLB. It certainly isn't new.
  15. I think he(everyone) was growing tired of the, "I'm the best, see what I said, I KNOW the outcomes." responses youve graced us with. Your positive attitude is nice though.
  16. Yeah, we know. I don't know if you're serious or trolling with this whole act, but it has gotten old. It's not an act at all. Posters are generally very quick to say it's over prematurely when they don't understand that we have a team with pitching that can hold the score till our offense catches up. Someones got to stay positive and realistic. Nothing wrong with what I said at all. Isnt this ironic? You were the one saying we had no shot to beat St. Louis because their pitchers are the best and always pitch us outside.
