  1. Senior at Madison, studying Legal Studies, Political Science and Sociology. Soc is my favorite of the three.
  2. K State may have been unlucky on 3s this game, but they only average about 32% from behind the arc on the season. On top of that, their best 3-point shooter is Beasley! He was clearly more effective inside today, and our defense shut down other scoring options, making it necessary for him to penetrate and rely on their guards for outside shooting. Even an above-average day from their guards would not have made the difference today because the Badgers were shooting so well themselves, and because it'd also have meant fewer possessions from Beasley and Walker in the interior.
  3. Good advice. *thumbs up*
  4. Charge on Travon was crap, but calls have gone either way. I've found the officiating a little strange on both sides at times.
  5. Keep driving at Beasley - really like the guard penetration. Open looks at the three have been sweet. I'm also enjoying the current balance, but am looking for one guy to kick up a scoring run to put the badger lead closer to 13 or 14. Probably J-Bo.
  6. Seconded. I think mine's an IP1700 or something (probably the exact same thing), and it's pretty great for what it is. I too print mostly black and white, but with photo paper the little thing turns out frameable images.

  8. Yeah, iTunes uses an online database to automatically label tracks that you upload, but it does so based on some sort of encoding on the CD and not by the tracks themselves, so if you have a particular CD that isn't in their database (especially one that may have been produced several years ago) there's a good chance you'll have to manually enter information. A tip to make it quicker if you're doing a whole album is to highlight all the tracks and then right-click to Get Info and it will allow you to change all the tracks to the album and artist name that you need in one shot. Though, specific track names will need to be entered manually. As for the second question, at least among the college crowd that I hang around with, that amount of music is not large at all. I have some friends with 10,000+ tracks that take up huge portions of their hard drives. I'd say the average among my friends and those people that I've tapped into in coffee houses and such is maybe 1200-2500 songs.
  9. Wisconsin Union Terrace Sunburst. It's fairly self-explanatory, and if you're not familiar, you'll need to visit Madison during the summer.
  10. Good luck, there. Not bugging me: The end of the Wisconsin Primary season. Exciting, exhausting.

  13. I feel that the NBA All-Star game can be somewhat entertaining, but is (like hockey and football) undermined by the fact that it is not really in a player's best interest to play at true game speed. I must, however, weigh in on their uniforms. Whose fault were these? Different solid-color panels on front and back for both teams, effectively making it look like there are 4 different teams on the floor at any given time, and then a guy turns around and he's a different color! Add to that the difficulty in distinguishing the white from the silver, and my eyes cannot compute. Worst. Idea. Ever.
  14. Wow, that's not a good quote for Kelvin at all. I'm expecting him to be out by next week.
  15. I guess we know what he was up to before the Nats signed him?
  16. Isn't this how sites like steepandcheap.com and whiskeymilitia.com operate all the time? (Though, I know it's a different product sector)
  17. I dreamt last night that following the NFL Draft I was signed by the Packers as an Unrestricted Free Agent, even though I haven't played organized football for years. They were taking a flyer on me, because they saw me as a fellow who had been a good student and deserved a shot with his favorite team. I didn't know about it until I got a call from a Packers staffer who said I should report as soon as possible. I wasn't shocked, just honored to be given the opportunity. I came back to Madison briefly and showed my dad my Packers jersey with my name on the back, because this was the first he'd heard of my signing. He congratulated me. I was given #69 and was inactive for the first pre-season game of the year, though I did bump fists with Gilbert Brown, who was playing and had just gotten off the field. Everyone was happy that I had been signed. I liked that dream.

  19. I don't mind this, as I never picked up the Cap Times in print. If it's entirely online, that represents more material that is more accessible to me on a daily basis. Also, I wonder if being online will allow the Cap Times to be a bit more progressive in its writing and op/ed, as internet sources are arguably less scrutinized and watered-down than hard-copy newspapers.
  20. I think LePay is great - I don't mind one bit that he gets excited. One of the biggest positives about Lepay in my opinion is that when he does get excited you can still understand everything that he says. There are so many announcers out there that become completely unintelligible at a higher voice level. Lepay's versatility is also outstanding. Incidentally, I consider Mike Lucas one of the best color commentators out there anywhere, at any level. Perfect complement to Lepay in that he's totally level-headed and is an unmatched concentration of information. Wayne Larrivee is great; I think his finest trait is how smoothly and effectively he sets up the play before the snap. He has about 5 seconds, and by the time he's done you know exactly how each team is lined up, what personnel is in, and can visualize the entire play as he continues. I've never heard anyone better at that aspect. It's the core of the call. Ted Davis does a great job at making the too-often atrocious Bucks games listenable. He's extremely entertaining. Brian Posick does a very good play-by-play. He loses me sometimes on big plays, but he's doing well in a high-difficulty job. I like Brian Anderson. I'm reserving further judgement. All in all, with my own bias recognized, I think we're hugely spoiled in this state.
  21. I'll take Brad Nessler, Keith Jackson, Brent Musberger, Gus Johnson, Bert Lundquist, Gary Thorne, Mike "Doc" Emrick, Ron Jaworski, Harry Kalas, Marv Albert (NBA and NFL on Westwood One) and then of course Uecker, Scully. I can't stand basically all NFL TV play-by-play guys. Al Michaels rises above mediocrity most of the time, but I get sick of how he and Madden essentially lose interest if a game isn't close and just start talking about whatever they want. Everyone else is just bad.
  22. I was in the Law Building and we felt a slight shake - prof didn't even notice, I don't think. I went to Memorial Union afterward and people in the Hoofer office (where I work - in the basement) were trying to figure out what happened, because they apparently really shook. Same story from the Red Gym.
