  1. I don't know as much about this as others on this board, but I also wonder how relevant a manager is, and in particular whether or not prior experience matters very much. Certainly one can learn how to manage personalities, but I'd think a career as a player might give you some of those same skills. As far as baseball decisions go, so much of that now is predetermined via analytics that it's almost like pushing buttons. Or, you go old school and it's about 'bunting them over' etc. I watch a lot of minor league ball, and I don't think managing down there is all that relatable to managing in MLB. So, in the end, where does somebody get relevant experience, do you want to hire someone who failed elsewhere? We did the bench coach thing, and it only worked so well. So, I say give Counsell a fair shake. Most of a season to show what he's got and then reevaluate. That said, I think hiring from inside (like this) is kind of crummy.
  2. Timing is funny, but I imagine the decision was made before this series. Timed for the return to Milwaukee. Any guesses who the replacement will be?
  3. Anyone know the latest a team has won consecutive games? I checked the 88 Orioles: May 21 and 22.
  4. Thought about flying to Milwaukee for a game this summer. Can't see that now. If I was there tonight I'd probably leave. Why am I even watching?
  5. One of the least inspiring Brewers performances of all time.
  6. Good work there by Garza battling the opposing pitcher to get the K.
  7. On the post-game show they're gonna break down the Braun HR. So, there's that.
  8. This is what makes the Brewers so hard to watch right now. I can't get past having Braun on the team. And how long is he on the payroll? And what's he actually worth? (remember: negativity thread!)
  9. That was positive Thornberg getting out of that. Just wanted to say something positive.
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/sixth-straight-loss-drops-brewers-out-of-first-place-b99342223z1-273486211.html Davis' quote is exactly the truth. It's Wildcard baseball. Nobody believed this was a team that could stay in first place. I still don't believe they've got what it takes to get hot at the right time, but getting hot at the right time has been a pretty successful model since the wildcard came to be.
  11. How much value does Gallardo actually have on the trade market? Just the fact that the Brewers would be willing to trade him while they are in a playoff race devalues him some, doesn't it?
  12. Just checked the score. Surprised. Maybe Price has already been traded to the Brewers and he's helping 'em out...
  13. Move the roof so there are shadows when the Cards bat, and move it back when we hit. Turn up those ribbon score boards. Steal signs. Win. At. All. Costs! Or, whatever. Have fun!
  14. Which was? I don't even know. But I distinctly remember liking it. It'll come to me. Edit: WRECKX-N-EFFECT, RUMPSHAKER Edit 2: It's terrible.
  15. I don't think I can ever recall feeling this upset about a Brewers' season. It ain't over, but it sure feels over. Seems like it shouldn't be this tough to take because I don't think anyone reasonably expected them to play as well as they did at the start. I think having this Cards series on the horizon as the slide started, and now seeing the fears confirmed in this fashion is just fuel on the fire.
  16. Meh, we were bad in the 1990s and early 2000s. Brewer fans should be happy to be in 1st place. I know this is true, but I really hate the idea that just because we used to REALLY suck 10-20 years ago, we should just be happy with what we can get now. The Packers used to be awful in the 70's and 80's. Doesn't mean I'm OK with 10-6 and going out in the first round. I think yfinn was being sarcastic about an exchange in the 7/11 IGT.
