That's on Greinke. If it weren't for Hairston he'd have allowed both runs anyways. And he allowed the pitcher to hit the baseball pretty hard, like many balls that inning. Plus he hit a batter.
Yes! We're back in action baby. Now the pressure falls back onto them. If the Cards lose the next game they are in serious trouble returning to Milwaukee.
Great job done by Wolf tonight. I still don't think the situation warranted keeping him in the game because of our bullpen, but for his part he did really well tonight.
How has it worked yet? Saito and Hawkins don't allow runs most of the time and the team probably would have scored a run by pinch hitting the previous inning.
If Wolf doesn't pitch through the 8th and hold this lead, we just got Roenicke'd again. And his management of the Wolf and his personal catcher situation aside, why not pinch hit the better fielder and much better hitter against a lefty in Gomez
I was always fine w/ including Kotsay in the lineup, he just shouldn't be playing centerfield, or batting 2nd really. He probably fits better as a run producer hitting fifth and obviously as a rightfielder where his old legs can be hidden more.
I like these lineups going forward: vs. righties: 1. Rickie Weeks 2. Nyjer Morgan 3. Ryan Braun 4. Prince Fielder 5. Corey Hart (situational start for Kotsay) 6. Jerry Hairston Jr. 7. Yuniesky Betancourt (situational start for Green) 8. Jonathan Lucroy (situational start for Kottaras) vs. lefties: 1. Rickie Weeks 2. Jerry Hairston Jr. 3. Corey Hart 4. Ryan Braun 5. Prince Fielder 6. Jonathan Lucroy 7. Carlos Gomez 8. Yuniesky Betancourt I hardly think the lineup or certain aspects of it are working so well that no alterations whatsoever are warranted.
Morgan was just as dangerous if not more so than Braun in that situation because he doesn't try to do too much. That was the biggest acquisition by Doug this season, arguably. What a relief that the Brewers weren't the first NL club to lose a 5-game series up 2-0. And we would have done it while blowing a 9th inning lead for the 1st time since April. Off to Philly/St. Louis. Hopefully it's St. Louis because you can't argue with the effect this home crowd has on the ballclub.

I understand the Counsell move the way Weeks is hitting, but IMO you can't remove Hart with just a one run lead. The upgrade in defense from him to Morgan isn't enough.

That was a cannonball out of Axford's hands. Nice atonement for him and Roenicke had big balls to give him the opportunity. I thought Hawkins was the most obvious choice.

I'm going to have a stroke. C'mon bottom of the order. At least is off to require a comeback now, so that helps increase the possibility of coming through here..

Weeks is on deck. I'd love for him to make me look bad. A hit to increase the lead to two would be of the clutch variety. Axford needs some breathing room so one solo shot can't tie it.
