  1. RRR excused the lineup's offensive impotency last night on the wind (it must have been blowing in on Yuni and McGehee all year) and credited Green's success partially to luck. It's funny, RRR attributed Green's success partially to good luck but Gamel's failure wasn't mitigated by bad luck with his tremendously unfavorable BABIP. I'm not a big supporter of BABIP's (ab)use in general, but it does have some merit, and I recall he did hit a number of line outs. RRR is just too veteran biased to see from different perspectives. So unfortunately I'd guess we see a similar lineup and order as usual tonight (hope I'm wrong), unless McGehee's injury became more painful after the adrenaline wore off. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=729734#p729734 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=24967
  2. Starting tomorrow, how about: 1. Hart, RF 2. Morgan, CF 3. Braun, LF 4. Fielder, 1B 5. Lucroy, C 6. Green, 2B 7. Hairston, SS 8. McGehee, 3B then when Weeks returns: 1. Hart, RF 2. Morgan, CF 3. Braun, LF 4. Fielder, 1B 5. Weeks, 2B 6. Green, 3B 7. Lucroy, C 8. Hairston, SS Those look more like the lineups of a contender.
  3. And the hope killers to the destruction again.... A combined 0-8 w/ one walk and the game ending double play.
  4. These analogies fail when one player you're comparing him to (Gamel) had a ridiculously high error rate at his position and the other is slower and hasn't played near as many games there.
  5. And if I ripped on McGehee you'd have also rushed to his defense. No, I'm ripping completely ridiculous posts that come out of emotion rather than common sense. McGehee walked his first AB. I don't think his approach is to hit early in the count because of who is hitting behind him. I think McGehee would be used to Yuni hitting behind him by now and would be a walk machine if that was actually that approach. In here it just seems like a travesty whenever a player like Yuni doesn't go 4-4. Every single at-bat gets 5-6 of the same post explaining that he's a terrible hitter. We know. Yet when he actually does do something good it's 5-6 of the same posts explaining he's still a terrible hitter or fielder. I've never seen anyone acknowledge he's made a good play defensively. He's had a handful tonight and has shown some range. When a Cubs announcer said he had decent range there were 5-6 people who laughed at the notion. Yet just last week Uecker was talking about Furcal's range and said Yuni also had decent range at SS. When he gets a good hit it's somehow still a bad thing. How depressing must it be to watch this team. 1/3 of your position players will make you angry regardless of the outcome. I can't even imagine some of you people watching the team when Bill Hall was playing. I generally like reading the in-game threads here, but literally the majority of the posts involve complaining about two players. It gets really old. These are some pretty emotional statistics: http://espn.go.com/mlb/st...t/113/sort/OPS/minpa/175 http://espn.go.com/mlb/st...OPS/order/true/minpa/150 http://espn.go.com/mlb/st...tion/ss/sort/rangeFactor http://espn.go.com/mlb/st...t/zoneRating/order/false (on a team who intends on making a playoff run) Stop being so emotional, statistics! And the guy from the minors who was suggested to replace them HAS appeared MUCH better.
  6. And if I ripped on McGehee you'd have also rushed to his defense.
  7. In fairness to McGehee, that puts tremendous pressure on him to hit ahead of such an inept hitter as Yuni. He expanded his zone there and I can't blame him, really. If they unintentionally walk him those baserunners go for naught anyways. I'd like to see how he fared for a few days hitting ahead of Green. The range we sacrifice at 2nd base would in all likelihood be worth it, especially considering the guy he'd be replacing (Yuni) is a detriment at his own position.
  8. I don't think statistics fully quantify how bad of a defender he's become. Bad range, bad coordination, bad throws, etc. The Brewers won't miss that aspect of his contribution next season.
  9. Betancourt in the 6th spot + Gallardo vs. the Cardinals = ..........
  10. Yuni B has success hitting in the 8th spot yesterday; God forbid Roenicke should leave him in that spot. Instead that's a justification for moving him up into the spot in the batting order where he's killed the team. Lucroy should be hitting 6th, or even Gallardo. Instead Roenicke asks Gallardo to bunt in situations where it doesn't allow you to set up scoring a run with an out. Man, the Cards just bring the worst out of this team w/ the bases loaded and in implied run situations. I'd love to see those splits against the Cards. It would be brutal.
  11. If McGehee would have doubled he'd receive 10 straight starts.
  12. Somebody needs to inform you that Fiers isn't a prospect though..... I don't think you can justify trading Wolf when he has value to a playoff rotation and the Crew still has realistic aspirations of getting back there next season. Plus he has a limited no trade clause so he could adversely effect our return and the Crew would burn 250K if he were traded. Dealing Narveson makes more sense. He's had a solid season but will never be an asset to a playoff rotation and we'd probably be selling high. I could see a contending team interested in him as a 4-5 or non-contender because he's cheap. I'd have few qualms about giving Peralta and Fiers a shot in ST to take the #5 spot in the rotation, and if they don't, Estrada provides insurance.
  13. Roenicke criticized Gamel's MLB performance to the media to defend the decision of keeping Green in Nashville and in turn protecting his boy McGehee. So I can understand why they think promoting Mat now could be threatening to team chemistry. Managers just shouldn't throw players under the bus like that publicly and Mat could feel betrayed. That dynamic reduces the chances he'll be the replacement for Prince next season because in all likelihood Roenicke will still be at the helm. In fiercely protecting team chemistry and success now Roenicke sacrifices it for the future.
  14. One more win in this series, the race will surely be over and then we can turn our attention fully to the D-Backs. Aside from the divisional race, it'd be cathartic to see the Crew win this series to compensate for what happened last week.
  15. I'd give him 2 if he weren't wild or allowed hard hit balls before that point. I feel better with him in there up through Theriot. Roenicke should have a reliever warming from the beginning though.
  16. Yeah, that's what I concluded as well. If it were Pujols and Holliday, I'd opt for Hawkins or maybe even Saito instead.
  17. To give Wolf another inning or have Hawkins/K-Rod relieve him....that's the question. The pitch count is low enough but I always worry about soft tossers being figured out as the game progresses. I think Wolf should remain in the game looking at who the Cards have up. You don't want to bring up Berkman or allow Furcal to bat lefty.
  18. Hart expanded the zone at the beginning of his AB to set up a defensive approach and in turn DP. The crew rarely seems to cash in on runners on base like they should against the Cards.
  19. He had not swung and missed at a pitch until that at bat where he did it 3 straight times.
  20. Once again the objective should be to at least avoid the sweep. If they can accomplish that, then the race is effectively over. If not, then it goes on. I said it goes on. And following hand-wringing will be warranted. It's not too much to expect the team to win one of the final six games against the team who you're battling the division for, regardless if you have a cushion. Show some degree of killer instinct. They're asking to be finished.
  21. They don't have much to interest them when not invoking the unwritten rules of baseball.
  22. That's your finale. Thank Reds...just take it easy on us when we travel to Cincy.
  23. You mean it's tough to root for him? I can see that, but you should have some faith since he was a good closer for the Brew and has been subsequently.
  24. No doubles d is a double-edged sword from Tony. The strategy ceded the lead but prevented another run from scoring.
