  1. So down to 1 after we option him back tomorrow. made someone we can deal to get some left-side help on the infield.
  2. I agree with that. The guy has won 3 national titles and UWW has become a powerhouse. That said, not a guy I’d want to have a beer with. 20 years ago at UWW, the guy had a reputation and not a good one. But I’d imagine that is true for most athletes and coaches… very talented but not pleasant people.
  3. He’s got to be running out of options though, isn’t he? I get that lefty pitchers take time to develop, but he’s closing in on 30
  4. UW-Whitewater just eliminated from NCAA playoffs. Tough break for a team expected to do some damage at the World Series. Shows how important matchups can be though.
  5. I was about to say that the Hader trade was a disaster, but then I remembered it led to the highway robbery trade to bring us Wild Bill :) Still, disappointing that Gasser hasn’t developed into more than a AAAA depth piece given he was the headliner in the trade
  6. I get it’s a spot start… but not super easy encouraging from Gasser.
  7. I remember the conversation last season that both sides need to want an extension to make it happen… but just curious. What would it take now for the Brewers to offer and maybe buy out 2 FA years… assuming FA eligibility in 2032 when Miz is 29 Would 7/150 signing him through 2033 get it done?
  8. Praise God that Mac is gone! Great day for UW!!
  9. Maybe this is where the game can/should change for the better. Earlier arby eligibility, but longer team control. arby eligible beginning year 3 in the majors (no more manipulation to delay this, if you play any part of 2 years, you’re automatically eligible in the third year), but then team control through 8 years. would create more incentive for both sides to reach long term deals. I personally believe the sport would increase in value if there was greater player continuity. It would also weaken the advantage that places like LA have (though I guess their leverage in the international market is still there)
  10. I read this week that the Final Four is very international player heavy.. good to see the Badgers getting in on this party even further. Hopefully Bucky can keep our current veteran leadership (AB, Blackwell, Winter, Rapp)
  11. Let’s go Sproat! Rough first outing this year, but plenty of time to turn it around. As Ted Lasso would say, be the goldfish!!
  12. Agreed Rick. Turang has proven things, and Pratt (while he has potential), could be another Arcia or Escobar (all glove no bat players that the Brewers were high on). I would have much rather bought out two FA years from Turang. I know it looks like he’ll break the bank on 2030, but it would have been nice keep him longer. I get that both sides needed to be interested to make that happen. We still have a disaster at 3B, and we w likely will have some need at 1B and in the outfield, so if Pena and/or Made have a special bat, plenty of places to play. We just don’t need 3x “glove first” SS on our MLB roster
  13. to be fair... 50% of our games have been against the AAAA White Sox... We might not face a Top 15 pitching staff until the Blue Jays in Series 5 I love our start, but beating the White Sox & Rays is not exactly beating the Dodgers and Blue Jays
  14. This could definitely be true, but ultimately its all about balancing the risk... We have Miz through the 2031 season... so going year to year risks that he'll be too expensive by 2030 or 2031. On the other hand, if he struggles (2025 second half) rather than being electric (2025 first half) or gets injured, all bets are off... I get that these guys have an ego, and some are driven to hit the "MASSIVE CASH", but I'd imagine that most would players would take the security of $50 million guaranteed, rather than a much smaller probability of hitting a $250 million or $500 million jackpot. Yeah, the numbers keep getting bigger, but we could have a massive economic correction at some point think 2008-2010), and if corporate America stops advertising, buying wide swaths of tickets, employing millions of Americans, etc... pro sports could see a significant contraction. Or, the players could not be as good as advertised, and they pretty much are left with their original MLB draft signing bonus...
  15. I feel terrible for him. Slow start here, but he was one of my favorite players last year. maybe one of those guys that played well for us but will struggle elsewhere?
  16. Love that crooked number in the 8th.... gives us options for the 9th... If Hall can finish the job, 5-1 is a nice way to start the season!
  17. I'm a bit annoyed with Murphy's usage of Ashby thus far... are we expecting him to pitch in 100 games this year?
  18. Englert is just getting warmed up... he's about to strike out three Brewers in a row to end the threat
  19. Turang could be one of those scenarios (like Adames) where we hold him to the very end, have (hopefully) four more playoff runs with him, and then take the pick... That said, as you just mentioned, beyond Chourio, we don't have other long-term contracts... in a couple years Yelich falls off... if Made/Pratt are starting to make an impact at the big league level (hopefully we can figure out 1B), and our pitching is starting to gel for a "go for it" type stretch, it will likely be ideal to keep some stability in place with Turang, Frelick, etc... So even if we're paying Turang $25/per and Frelick $15/per, with some of the younger players locked up (Jackson, Pratt, maybe Made) things could work out... 3-4 years down the line, our pitchers (if they pan out) will start hitting Arby (Miz, Patrick, Priester, Harrison), so that might make 2028-2031 or so our "window", before we re-load again
