What exactly has he done here that warrants a playoff spot? The guy has been a complete trainwreck with a 5.61 ERA and short starts that have stretched our bullpen. I guess he could be the long man in a blowout where we are down 7 runs... if we go by results, the guy doesn't make the roster, period. -
Wow, just wow for Gasser. Kid has really pulled it together lately. When he first rejoined the club early in the year, i thought he was going nowhere. Very pleased to see I was wrong. Hoping he can stay healthy and have some great success in the playoffs

If he's looking for a minimum 3/45... he's probably going to be unemployed until May (no pun intended) next year. For a guy who hasn't proven anything, he's getting pretty old. A 2.9 career WAR for someone who is 29 is pretty mediocre. He isn't durable. He doesn't get good results. He has no established track record. He likely will not make our postseason roster (or atleast shouldn't). Looks like a 1 year/$2-3 million contract with an invite to major league spring training to me. If the guy didn't start as a Dodgers prospect, he probably wouldn't be in MLB anymore honestly. -
Go for the win today. Get to 100... make the Dodgers play perfect 4-0 the rest of the way, and come home loose for a final weekend series celebration of a great REGULAR season.

How else would you do this with 6 teams making the playoffs? make the Wild card round 5 games? Or reduce the number of playoff teams to 5? 4 and 5 play a 3 game series, 3 division winners get a bye… then we go to division round?

Crap. The good news is, that would give Miz regular rest. The bad news is, our bullpen then goes 7 straight to finish in a week where our starters may throw less innings

Not quite sure what you mean by don’t show your hand… I absolutely think we should try to win every game. That said I would not push Henderson or Miz past 60 to 75 pictures for the rest of the regular season if that’s what you mean by don’t show your hand: Maybe call up Crow to make a spot start? I really have no interest in seeing Dusty May pitch for the Brewers ever again.

I am still basking in the glory of yesterday’s win! Looks like we pretty much have the whole bullpen ready to go today. Score some early runs, get me out of there with a low pitch count, and bring that magic number down to four today! LFG!

Would anybody want May back on a $5M Or less “prove it” deal to give us depth? my answer is probably still no, but atleast we’d have all offseason to work with him. the guy has negative WAR since 2023, and is pretty much the definition of a replacement level player. -
In positive news, I missed that we had a day game today. very impressed & encouraged by Gasser’s continued success. miz henderson priester gasser harrison if Priester can get healthy and Harrison can get right is a crazy solid rotation for 2027

Unlike May, Peralta has put up 14 WAR and was a Cy Young finalist last season. over 6 years, May has something like 3 career WAR, and most of those was 2023 or earlier. let’s face it. May is an overpaid, old version of Sproat. A guy hugely hyped in a bit organization (LA) who has never put it together ok, I’m done talking about a guy who hopefully never pitches again for the brewers after next weekend

I agree snapper. I’m not angry we made the move. We needed to do something after missing out on other players. i’ll be irritated if we keep pitching a terrible player to justify making the move

Dustin May is objectively terrible. According to baseball references, he has negative WAR over the past 2 seasons https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/maydu01.shtml the brewers saw something they hoped to unlock, but it hasn’t worked out. If we had sent a lottery ticket for him, I would have no issue with it, but we objectively traded two top-100 projects for a hot mess when there were far superior options available (Clay Holmes) who would have cost less. i think Matt Arnold is a fantastic GM. I also think his trades at the deadline were a disaster. No need to make it worse by carrying folks that have no business on a playoff roster (May, Harrison, Senzeleta) he’s also played for 4 teams in 2 seasons. The definition of JAG. it would have been an underwhelming move, but Freddy Peralta is now, and has always been a far superior player to Dustin May. If we wanted to eat innings, Peralta would have been a hell of a lot cheaper to require, with an actual history of success. dusty May should be playing on a one year $5 million “prove it deal” next year for a team hoping to strike lightning in a bottle. Sorry, but the guy just is not a legit top 1-2-3 pitcher

Simply put, Stallings is more valuable and has earned it more than me and Senzetela.

Gasser, I am good with. He dealt with adversity earlier in the season and has been pitching very well as of late. In my view, he’s sort of the anti-Sproat. He doesn’t have the same physical ability, but is much sharper from a mentality perspective. I’m not sure what value me could bring to this roster other than maybe a pop-up guy if you’re losing 10 to one. Van can easily feel that role for us. i just don’t see Senzetela, May, or Harrison having value for us in the postseason. I’m ok with Hamilton so long as it can be guaranteed that he’s only a PR and emergency defensive sub.

Some pretty lousy managing by Pancakes tonight. take out Vaughn, now taking out Pratt. Sal did get that run in so I’ll give him a pass on the Frelick for Lara. i don’t want Hamilton on the postseason roster if he’s going to be anything other than a PR. Frelick is a hard no for me on TJ roster as well. Noodle arm and pretty lousy at the plate.
