In the midst of a big family gathering in the WI Dells. It was a hot sunny day yesterday until about 7:30pm when the smoke rolled in with fury. air quality pretty bad today. I remember a couple years ago having some bad air quality from the fires, but that seemed more minimal last year. superior’s air quality jumped to over 900 this morning (catastrophic). Can anyone recall seeing a number this high? Seems like 2/3 of Canada is burning. Is this recent of potential changes in climate (drier & hotter) or what is causing these fires the last 4-5 years?

Don’t teams take our injury protection (insurance) on long term contracts? I could see Miz (with his velocity) being sidelined by an injury at some point, but I think the real risk in a multi-year deal would be if a player ages and starts to faceplant (Yelich) also, if we continue our track record of trading pitchers a year before FA, we only have Miz for 4 more years following this one. i still am In favor of buying out the 5 arby years of we can get get 1-2 team options for years 6&7. Security for Miz, extending the window for us. of course there needs to be mutual interest and there likely isn’t

You make an excellent point. I meant $2.50-$2.75 in Southeastern Wisconsin. We were about that in mid February here.

3.5% is a big improvement, thought that seems to be driven (lower) primarily by gas prices. hopefully the Middle East stuff can work itself out. If gas prices return to a more normalized $2.50-$2.75 by fall, that would be a big boost to the economy and hopefully get inflation back below 3%

Interesting that the markets seem to be ignoring the escalation in the Middle East again. Then again, so much hyperbole has been thrown out over the past 4-5 months, it might be tough to determine what is reality of not these days. i will be curious to see what the inflation number is today. Guessing that the market is expecting mid 4s?

I really hope we can sign Bell. I think he’s my top priority from the 11-20 group. still bummed about a couple of the players we couldn’t sign late last year

Spencer. Any thoughts about how the brewers might prioritize that $1m under slot on picks 11-20, assuming of course picks 1-10 sign for $600k less than slot collectively (+overage to $1M)

I’m assuming this is a combination of: - we pick late in th 1st-10th rounds, thus our slot position is lower - we traded our competitive balance pick - we don’t have any compensatory picks. assuming next year will be better with regaining a competitive balance pick and also likely getting a compensatory pick for Bauers?

I don’t have any reason to believe he ever did it right. As far as I’m concerned, he was on roids his whole career. He doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. i get there were a lot of cheaters in that era, but it pisses me off that massive Frauds like Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGuire, etc weren’t dealt with more swiftly and harshly. I get people make mistakes, but these clowns made a mistake every day of their playing career and never took ownership or accountability for how bad they damaged the game. luckily the league seems to take baseball’s credibility more seriously now and doesn’t tolerate blatant cheating, nor scumbags like Roberto Alomar

There were some really interesting names that we just couldn’t get over the finish line last year. Seemed like the bonus pool management was excellent, but we left some $$ on the table IIRC as the last 2-3 targets went to the wire and then didn’t sign. did we have a bigger pool $$ last year, or was that because of our competitive balance pick (last year) that we traded to Boston (this year)?
