  1. Yeah, Mark A. seems to be moving into that stage of ownership where he already has his bumloads of money, and is now looking to win because having a winning team is fun. It gives him more time to promote his son's terrible, terrible band.
  2. Can you call Joe Morgan and Richard Justice and yell at them again? Wait until like 2 or 3 am. They deserve it for past sins against humanity.
  3. Olney did not look thrilled to be reporting that deal. Haha.
  4. Maybe its just taking Olney a long time to figure out a way to spin this so that it doesn't look like he was talking out of his rear the last two days.
  5. What an amazing turn of events. So much for the Phillies "lurking in the shadows". Looks like Doug made his best offer, stuck by it, and let the Indians come to him. How amazing is this that the Brewers are actually getting the guy instead of giving him up. Also, Baseball Tonight has been on for 15 minutes, and they have yet to mention it.
  6. Olney says Sabathia is getting traded! Somewhere! The Phils are in the shadows!
  7. I find it hard to believe Candlebox is still a group, or that ESPN thinks I want to see their cover of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
  8. Olney is really just regurgitating his article on Baseball Tonight. Did you know the Phillies GM loves to "work in the shadows"? Insightful!
  9. Careful, don't want to give the boys at WSSP the vapors again.
  10. I agree that, ultimately, Prince likely owes the money. But if its a situation where Cecil told his son, "I'll take care of the financials, you go out there and play baseball and don't get distracted by money issues", then Prince got duped. Prince owes what Prince owes, but its also entirely possible he got sandbagged here and thought this was taken care of by someone he trusted.
  11. Perhaps, yes. And I may even agree that might be the case with Prince; however, I wish my company would based my annual raise not only on performance, but also my personal financial background -- I would have the boats, snowmobiles, and "weekend" car by now. Create-the-debt-and-the-raises-will-come-accordingly is not a real life circumstance, and if that is why Prince is a bit pouty this year, well then, I hope he moves on to his AL team sooner than later. I agree with you in principle, but I think the here Prince didn't "create the debt". His father did, and then signed Prince's name to it. Cecil "allegedly" stole $200,000 of Prince's signing bonus, was apparently Prince's agent when the IRS was unpaid to the tune of $400,000, and Cecil got Prince sued for $380,000 for another transaction. It looks to me like Prince is in a financial hole not of his own making, but rather one dug for him by someone he trusted.
  12. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1208/is_24_226/ai_95792856 Not sure if Cecil actually ended up being his agent, but it sure looks that way. I bet Cecil was supposed to take care of the taxes and just helped himself.
  13. According to the link, the IRS filed this lien in late '05. Given that Prince already felt Cecil stole some of his signing bonus, I'd imagine this is something else Cecil had a big hand in. Plus, didn't Prince and his grandparents get sued last year because of some of Cecil's other business dealings gone? (edit: yes, for $380,000) Kind of puts Cecil's "why won't my son reconcile with me" crocodile tears from last season in perspective. If my father left my mother after stealing $200,000 from me and wracking up $800,000 in other debt in my name, I might be a little upset as well.
  14. Thats one of the reasons we'd be lucky to get him, and he'd be worth every penny the Brewers would pay him. The added revenue in advertising and sales to Japan would help the team overall. And its not like Ichiro is or has ever been Jeffrey Hammonds style money pit, even if he is possibly overpaid. I can't see this ever actually happening, but I would be thrilled if it somehow could.
  15. Yeah it was because he was throwing hissy-fits when there was a change in the rotation, and also apparently he liked to drink a little too much. Was just curious though if Melvin would take a flier on him given the Dave Bush situation Wasn't Ponson also the one who punched out an Aruban Judge in a beach brawl a couple offseasons ago?
  16. I'll start this out by saying that its obviously never going to happen, and therefore pointless to speculate about. Still, the Internet is for porn and for baseless speculation so here goes: The Mariners canned their GM today, and at the press conference their team president suggested that all options were on the table. He repeated that when someone asked him specifically about Ichiro. Our friends at wikipedia tell us that Ichiro's contract calls for him to be paid $12 million/year for the next four years, with an additional $5.5 million a year in deferred compensation. Ichiro bats lefty, plays a mean OF, and is the best leadoff hitter in the game. He also says things like this: And: And: In short, whats not to love about him? And, in a crazy world in which he was actually really available, what would it take to get him?
  17. Man, that was a great day. "My friend saw Turnbow and Wise run into the dugout. This means we traded for Dunn."
  18. Maybe my doctor would disagree, but I think the debate is to have 3 or 4 before a game; and what is the applicable brat to brew ratio?5:1... brews to brats that is I'd take a 5:1 crew to marlins run ratio as well
  19. Who cares if Cubs fans point to Soriano's injury as the root cause if they fail to surpass the Crew? Couldn't we point out that Sheets has been on the DL twice this season? And besides, a title is a title as others have already said.
  20. That'll make it two Phillies relievers who beat their wives. Classy!
  21. I do seem to recall that Floyd got his shot in Philly and was considered a "former" top prospect, having flamed out a la Ben Hendrikson. He got traded to the White Sox along with a couple other washed out pitchers. Gio Gonzalez was one of them I think.
  22. I think Buehrle is right to be nervous about taking an undermarket deal without a NTC based only on assurances that he won't be traded right away. Didn't something like that happen to Arroyo? He signed a well below market deal with the Red Sox after they won the world series, then got dealt the same offseason I think. So its not like there Buerhle is being unreasonable.
  23. I could have been more clear, sorry for any confusion. I was asking if anyone was familiar enough with the Phils farm system to know what we could get for either Vargas or Bush, thereby opening up a spot for Carlos or Gallardo. I didn't mean it to come off as "We must trade Vargas or Bush right now, to the Phils, for whatever scrap they have laying around."
  24. Freddy Garcia is done for the season, pending a second opinion. www.beerleaguer.com/beerl..._too_.html Since they've moved Myers to the Pen, that means that 2 of their 5 starting pitchers on opening day are on the DL and out of the rotation. I don't know much about their farm system. What could we get for Bush or Vargas?
