  1. Mine showed up yesterday as well. I had emailed the ticket office last week and they said the refunds were processed on Monday, Oct. 24 and would hit the credit cards in 2-3 business days. I took 5 business days but at least it made it.
  2. David Freese didn't get called up to the majors until he was 26, and didn't become a starter until he was 27. Does that make him a non-prospect?Freese didn't start playing minor league ball until he was 23. He was one of the best HS players in STL but got burned out on baseball and turned down a full ride to Missouri in order to as a friend from the area put it, "party". After getting a lot of pressure from friends and an old coach he later finally started playing at the JUCO level and ended up being a 6th round pick at age 23.
  3. From Fierce Wireless Sprint's LTE getting Advanced in 2013, WiMAX's inferiority complex intensifies By Michael Gorman posted Oct 25th 2011 11:09PM Sprint just started building out its LTE network, but being the eager beavers that they are, the folks in Overland Park are already talking about taking the Now Network to the next level. Iyad Tarazi, Sprint's VP of network development and engineering, said that Sprint will be rolling out an LTE-Advanced network in the first half of 2013. (As a brief refresher, LTE-Advanced is a true 4G technology that can make regular LTE speeds look positively pedestrian in comparison.) Tarazi added that we would see 12 LTE devices in 2012 and that over 250 million people will have access to Sprint-flavored LTE by the end of 2013 -- with voice over LTE service coming in the first quarter of that year. For those (hundreds?) of you worried about the fate of of WiMAX, well, don't. Apparently, the out-of-favor 4G network will continue to be supported for several more years due to Sprint's agreement with Clearwire. So, it appears Sprint's really making a run at Verizon's LTE hegemony. Good luck Mr. Hesse, you're probably going to need it.
  4. Houston is a huge market for their TV network. Why they aren't going after UCF is beyond me.Houston may be a huge TV market in general but it may not be so much for their network. I would imagine most of the college football fans in Houston are Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, etc. fans and Houston and the Big East isn't going to be must see TV. I looked back at the NYT article I linked on the previous page in this topic and they identified Houston as having about 100,000 fans, which is pretty low in comparison to WVU at around 900,000 because they are watched by their whole state. They should even be able to call some mash up of the Big East , Mountain West and Conference USA a super conference, more like a mediocre conference.
  5. When I was searching on the web for the Ludwick quote I found plenty of references to Carpenter's yelling at batters. Apparently he had issues with Carlos Lee slamming his bat down after popping out and said a similar line as he used on Morgan and Napoli as well as a few words in another situation with Adam LaRoche. So I would say neither the Morgan or Napoli shout outs are isolated incidents when it comes to Carpenter.
  6. One thing I have learned from studying patent claims on drugs and technology is that it is best left to the patent lawyers and engineers to decipher who stole what or invented what. Just when someone claims it is their idea some old patent comes out of the woodwork from 10 years ago or some minor tweak makes a difference. Who would have thought Tivo had patents on something as simple and ubiquitous as FFWD and RWND for a DVR yet EchoStar fought tooth and nail and lost. With drugs a patent challenge is filed almost immediately after a patent is granted.
  7. I think Carpenter gets more of a pass because of who plays for rather than being a white born again. Someone posted a link back when the Morgan Carpenter spat happened about a survey in SI that showed both Carpenter and Pujols getting more votes than Morgan from players on who they thought was the meanest or something like that. Carpenter, Molina, Pujols, LaRussa, Edmonds, were all allowed to act like a horse's butt over the years but all we hear is that STL is classy and the epitome of how baseball should be. Generally they have a winning team so anyone who complains about them is a sore loser or not handling the spot light well, etc. I think back to Luckwik's comments about not knowing how hated the Cardinals were until he got traded. Fans of other teams and players of other teams are well aware of the jerkiness of the players but then national guys like the Joe Buck and Peter Gammons of the world who don't see them everyday act like they are saints and provide cover for them. Anytime I mention a jerk play like last night to a Cardinal fan it is always refuted because Carpenter has Cy Young or WS ring as if talent excuses him from being called out for his antics. Same thing when Nyjer got into with them or Phillips it was how many rings do they have or how many MVPs?
  8. My game 7 tickets were through the lottery not through a rep so there is no next year's ticket account to put them on. My regular season package is in someone else's name. Thanks for the info RockCoCougars, I hadn't seen anything about a timeframe. It does bug me that they wait until 10 days after the postseason ends as if the length of the Texas STL series should have any bearing on getting my money back for a Brewer game.
  9. Still haven't seen my refund to my credit card for tickets to Game 7 purchased on Oct. 13th. Brewers knocked out on Oct. 16th so I wonder how long it will take to back that charge off my credit card. You wouldn't think they would need 2 weeks to do it but I have a feeling they will wait for the month to roll over.
  10. I laughed out loud in my office when I read this description of the game from Jeff Passan on Yahoo Sports: "All of it was too funny to believe. The malfunctioning bullpen phone. The bullpen coach not hearing a name, then confusing the name “Motte” with “Lynn.” Intentional walks distributed like Halloween candy. Using the pitcher who was told before the game he wouldn’t be used. Sending a left-handed pitcher against a right-handed hitter who destroys southpaws. And everything in the same inning no less, an eighth La Russa wishes he could stick in a sepulcher and forget it ever happened. And that doesn’t even include the “mix-up” on the basepaths or the three ill-timed sacrifice bunts or any of the other bits of bizarro baseball that saw La Russa’s managerial IQ degrade as the game wore on, like he was Charlie in “Flowers for Algernon.”
  11. As I lay in bed last night stewing over the loss I thought of next year and started thinking they could easily be just a .500 type team and not a contender. Prince leaving will leave a gaping hole in the offense, putting all the pressure on Braun. The bullpen will be reworked and most likely not as good without KRod in the 8th and odds are Axford doesn't go a whole season with only 1 blown save. The rotation may not be as good as this year either if Marcum is either hurt or mediocre (this last month of his pitching was awful, no command, no movement, just meatballs) Grienke never seemed like an ace, he got his K's but gave a runs, not saying he is bad or anything but less dominating than hoped. Narveson and Wolf are wild cards that could be OK but could be terrible over the course of a season. For all the talk of Hairston's defense he made terrible plays like the rest of the maligned defense. Hart looks completely lost in the OF and again went on a streak of swinging at garbage. Edit: I should add I realize ZG's ERA was impacted by giving up the long ball and for some reason in my mind it seems he always gave up the the 2 run or 3 run jack so hopefully that improves next year. And part of my frustration is entirely due to his getting knocked around in the playoffs. Marcum is my real worry a guy who gets by with location and not overpowering stuff who suddenly looks terrible for a month in his 30's with injury history makes me worried.
  12. My friend from STL was shocked that Kotsay started in CF, he doesn't even watch the Brewers that often and he couldn't believe RR put him CF when Gomez and Morgan were available. He also noted that if Kotsay needed to get in the lineup wouldn't Hart make sense as the replacement to at least keep some semblance of defense out there? As has been mentioned Kotsay did fine at the plate but going into the game the only thing that was a sure thing is that Gomez or Morgan are better defenders, with Gomez being miles better than Kotsay. Kotsay's hitting is not mile better than either player. Gomez at least could hit a nubber and beat it out or get lucky and connect and hit one out a la Kotsay who hasn't shown much power in recent years. But the one absolute was the defensive ability and for whatever reason RR decided it didn't matter.
  13. All of my worst fears from 2 weeks ago have come to fruition. I can't even watch baseball anymore because I hate STL so much and watching the Brewers puke it up to them sickens me. Losing to anyone else would be disappointing but losing to these sanctimonious jerks just ruins the game. Kotsay in CF in April when guys were hurt didn't bother me but now in a playoff game when Morgan and Gomez are healthy in a game when runs should be at a premium and defense should outway a dozen ABs half a decade ago or more leaves me speechless. The RR hatred have won me over. I was souring on the whole McGehee is automatically the PHer to go to and pitching moves in the playoffs but this game was the final straw. RR is in over his head and the playoffs are no time for being a players manager.
  14. I am usually pretty low key when it comes to in game or quibbling with RR's moves but he has to pull Wolf. Can't throw strikes and doesn't have the stuff to make mistakes.
  15. I hate nibblers as much as anyone, couldn't stand Davis for it, but Saunders is just like Wolf. The Brewer offense should be able to hit him just as well.
  16. The Cardinals are going to ruin this postseason for me. I don't think I could stomach watching a best of seven with them, not to mention the horror of seeing them advance further than the Brewers.
  17. It isn't just back in the day that kids were used to scam money from donors. I know every year a group of kids goes door to door in our neighborhood trying to raise money for some inner city church group. The kids are usually in pairs and I see them all over the neighborhood walking with their clipboards and stack of receipts for you tax deductible donation. I've probably given them $10 a couple times over the years. Turns out the Milwaukee Restoration Church is a scam. http://host.madison.com/c...0-b4e4-001cc4c002e0.html As far as the thieves being smack head stealing the grills for scrap I wouldn't doubt it a bit. My brother is a contractor and ends up with a lot of scrap from demo work which he sells by the truck load. He said if you really want to see some messed up people go to the salvage yard where they buy the metal. He said there are some pretty strung out people there selling $5 and $10 worth of stuff and they all stare at his truck load of $1000 or more of scrap like a pack of starving dogs just waiting for a piece to fall off. He said the yard usually lets him pull in behind a fenced area because the truck would be scavenged and stripped by the time he got out and went inside the office.
  18. The Target Cashier one is pretty good, I don't think they do that one enough in comparison to the That's Gilly which is dumb and gets old fast but I really hate the skit where she plays an over the top broadway actress on a game show, I just FFWD that skit every time it is so awful. The deformed doll one usually gets a laugh from my wife and I just because she can pull off the physical comedy of it and everyone else looks ready to laugh.
  19. I'd probably just look for some kid to give it to (my own kid isn't old enough to care a bit about Dad bringing home a baseball). I still remember being at a Twins/Tigers game at the Metrodome as a kid and having a foul ball coming straight to me, I stood there with my glove up ready to catch it and the guy behind me reached up and caught it right over my head. I was so ticked off and I have vowed to just give any foul ball or HR I ever catch (unless it some historic ball) to some kid who will think it is way cooler than my throwing it in a drawer at home.
  20. I found one article stating that as of late July MLB reported sales of Brewer Merchandise were up 12% over last year. I found an old ESPN article from 2007 that mentioned two items I hadn't seen spelled out before, each team contributes $5 million annually to a pension fund, and each team adds $5 Million to the Commissioner's fund( or MLB operations depending on the name) annually. But they added this bit of information Central fund (includes national TV, radio, Internet, licensing, merchandising, marketing, MLB International money): Each team, from the Marlins to the Yankees, gets the same central-fund payout. And that check comes to slightly over $30 million per team if you deduct the $10 million in pension and operations fees, or just over $40 million if you don't. Here is a great little article from Hardball Time attempting to quantify the value of team (his example is actually the Brewers) http://www.hardballtimes....ue-of-ball-clubs-part-3/
  21. Both the St. Pete newspaper and FoxSports mentioned that Tampa's deadline for submitting their roster was 11 AM Tampa time. McCalvy just tweeted, "it looks like Green over Wilson for postseason roster but it would be officially filed with MLB until Sat. Morning." So it looks like Green may be getting a spot on the roster.
  22. Anyone know when the Brewers have to set the roster? I saw an article that said the Rays had until 11 AM today so is that time for everyone or will the Brewers deadline be sometime tomorrow morning?
  23. I can't bring myself to buy any of the stuff I've seen because they look awful in my opinion. The shirts look like something from the early 80's and the hats with Playoffs in huge letters remind me of early 90's style hats that Vanilla Ice would have worn.
  24. You and I know that this is bigger, but try convincing the Madison media of that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif ESPN Gameday is coming to Madison Saturday, so if the Brewers play at MP on October 1, some southern Wisconsin sports fans might asplode. Not that the Turner networks would care about that.I don't know that I would say 1 game of a best of 5 series is bigger than the WI vs. NEB game. One loss in college football, for any non SEC team is like a playoff and ends any hope of a championship run/undefeated season. I know given the choice of attending either game I'd pick the WI vs. Neb game over the 1 baseball game and I am a pretty big Brewer fan so I can only imagine how much more skewed the Madison market as a whole is toward the Badger game.
  25. I think someone behind Prince in the order will be the key. I expect them to have the RBI opportunities as teams pitch around Prince, especially when 1B is open. They need a player like Casey, Yuni, or Lucroy to have a Cody Ross like series.
