  1. RR having to start playing matchups with his bullpen with 1 out in the 6th...going to be a long rest of the game for this thread! I'm going to get started writing my post wondering why Mitre faces Pena in the 8th when Braddock's chewing seeds in the pen.
  2. bottom of the Cub order coming up - if Narveson gets into any trouble in the 6th RR's gotta pull him
  3. weird that it seems like it's 8-0 cubs right now...maybe the Brewers use karma to reverse the trend of last night's game?
  4. I don't have a problem with that one as much - with 1 out that's the time to get aggresive on a 50/50 to get to third. Took two good throws and a very good catch&tag to get him.
  5. Prince couldn't catch a shorthop throw, and then he essentially couldn't lean down to field a routine grounder that could have led to a double play
  6. wow...time to turn this one off. If I'm Narveson I just go back to the hotel now. most likely a 3 run bomb here from Zambrano
  7. Unfortunately Z seems to have very good stuff tonight - that sinker's moving a ton
  8. It'd be awesome to get rid of the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that comes with the Brewers playing like garbage against the Cubs...really hoping they can pick up a win or two before heading to Boston - otherwise I have a feeling it's going to turn into an ulcer.
  9. Not quite what I intended with the thread title... Having Nieves on the roster has forced Lucroy to start every game Wolf doesn't pitch - I don't have a problem with giving the starting catcher 80% of the starts, but his performance should dictate when he gets a day or two off...not a #4 starting pitcher who acts like a teenage girl when he's not pitching to Nieves. Since Nieves is so bad, the last 3 games Lucroy was supposed to get a day off he ended up pinch hitting and/or replacing him at catcher - and even though it would benefit him over the course of the season, it's essentially pointless to give Lucroy consecutive games off because even when he's struggling offensively he's a better option than Nieves. I should have included Wolf's name in the thread title - stupid as it sounds, he's partially to blame for the current catching situation on the team by him refusing to pitch to Lucroy. Even if Nieves is replaced by Kottaras or Rivera, RR will still hamstring himself by allowing his #4 starter to dictate who catches when, although a better offensive backup catcher would probably get more starts than Nieves and give more opportunites for Lucroy to sit (if performance/situation warrants that).
  10. What would have happened had last night's game gone significantly into extras, a very real possibility the way things were going when Nieves was pinch hit for? Lucroy ends up catching close to a full game on the one night a week he's supposed to have off.
  11. I think reporters need to frame questions better to keep managers from wiggling off the hook when they made stupid in-game decisions, and continue to want to keep garbage players on the roster. "Why is Braddock on the roster?" "Why are you carrying 7 pitchers in the bullpen when you don't use all of them?" "Does a reliever who's on pace to lose 15 games in a "hold" role sound like a good option for "the 8th inning guy" on a team that considers itself a contender?" "Why do you not walk the team's cleanup hitter to set up a force out at the plate AND a double play option late in a scoreless game?" "Is Nyjer Morgan injured?" "When is Nieves going to start in a game not pitched by Wolf so Lucroy can get some additional rest?" "Why do you continue to pinch hit for Nieves as soon as Wolf leaves the game? Have the rest of the pitchers currently on the roster chosen Lucroy as their personal catcher?" "How have Gamel, Green, and Kottaras been performing in AAA?"
  12. Nieves is so inept on offense that he cannot give Lucroy an entire game off - the primary purpose of a backup catcher is to give the everyday catcher enough days off so he doesn't fall off a cliff due to fatigue from overuse. The Brewers NEED to get rid of Nieves and get a catcher in here that can actually be a normal backup catcher. I don't want Lucroy thinking he's Kendall - no reason to have to start 80% of all the games AND expect to play in at least part of the other 20%.
  13. ugh... - So our starting catcher can't get a full day off, because the backup catcher is the worst hitter on the team - worse than any pitchers who get AB's - the one legitimate scoring chance the Brewers had all night was squandered by overmanaging - the only run of the game was scored after a missed strike 3 call and a couple of plays that good defensive players often make - the best player on the Brewers' bench tonight didn't get an AB, even though there were two pinch hitters used in the game - a righty specialist that somehow became the 8th inning guy is getting abused such a frustrating loss, but it is only one game - I'd love to know whether the Crew traveled to Chicago yesterday after the game...their performance tonight has me thinking a short travel trip like that gave them plenty of time to make plans to celebrate a weekend sweep of the Cardinals at some of the Windy City's watering holes into the wee hours.
  14. suprised Prince even got anything close to hit there
  15. If I'm Loe, I walk into Roenicke's office after tonight and tell him that for the benefit of the team I'm taking a week off - Roenicke needs to start using the rest of his bullpen
  16. Hawkins hasn't exactly had what you might call the best of luck at Wrigley Field in the past... He also isn't on pace for like 125 appearances like Loe seems to be.
  17. Shortstops in this game must have a running bet to see who can see the fewest pitches this series
  18. Absolutely, and if Wolf ever starts wondering why he can't get decent run support, he can start by looking at his personal catcher
  19. Samardzija in...guess Quade and Roenicke are having a contest to see who can do more to prevent their team from winning tonight.... And the starting catcher gets pinch hit for knowing that Wolf is done - please can we get rid of Nieves?
  20. this Cubs-Brewers game is sending baseball back to the dead-ball era of offense...it kind of reminds me of a mid-summer legion baseball game that even the parents don't want to bother watching.
  21. You really have to try hard to not score after hitting two doubles in three hitters...
