  1. don't even mess with stubhub - it's to the point where you can show up at wrigley and wait until the game starts, then land decent seats for $5 or less from some of the 2ndary ticket market vendors employed by the cubs themselves just so they can get more butts in the seats to buy concessions. the rabid cubby swagger from the early 2000's is long gone.
  2. I'll put more stock into what McGehee did the last two seasons in the majors instead of framing a projection based off what he did in 2007 and 2008 when he was playing in the minors and occasionally in the bigs. You took McGehee's stats from 3 & 4 seasons ago to justify your argument while using the last month's worth of stats from a minor leaguer to start giving Green more than 1/2 the starts at 3B in the majors. I agree that McGehee shouldn't be hitting 5th in the lineup, but I disagree with calling up a career minor leaguer to start getting bunches of ABs for a team that's in playoff contention.
  3. So start platooning McGehee because he's had a bad few months because you think he's the hitter he was back in 2008 and 2007, when he wasn't getting regular time in the majors...and then turn to justify his platoon replacement who's had a decent few months in AAA? I love being able to use both sides of an argument to form an opinion on two players.
  4. took awhile, but Corey got the memo! hopefully this corresponds with Morgan getting off the DL soon, and then Gomez and Kotsay being used in the roles they are better suited for. Kotsay can be a lefthanded ph option and occasional backup OF, and Gomez can play in a quasi platoon with Morgan and be a defensive replacement/pinch runner option on games he doesn't start.
  5. This is all moot, as Punto's not a Brewer, and not healthy, but to suggest he's not capable of playing SS full time is just not true. Well, he's not capable right now because he's injured - something he likes to be over the past few years, which is why he would have been just as bad an option to play SS everyday for the Brewers going into the season as Betancourt was. So, actually suggesting he IS capable of playing SS full time right now is just not true. That's based in present day reality, not on historical statistical intervals that don't account for the time Punto can't be on the field due to injury.
  6. Some current home/away offensive statistics for the 2011 Brewers: Home: Average - 0.305 - #1 in MLB for hitting at home, by 0.021 over 2nd-ranked Cubs OBP - 0.374 - #1 in MLB for hitting at home, by 0.017 over 2nd-ranked Indians SLG - 0.499 - #2 in MLB for hitting at home, behind top-ranked Indians by 0.005 OPS - 0.873 - #1 MLB ranking for hitting at home, by 0.012 over 2nd-ranked Texas Away: Average - 0.220 - #28 in MLB for hitting on the road, 0.008 above Twins for worst OBP - 0.279 - worst in MLB for hitting on the road SLG - 0.333 - #27 in MLB for hitting on the road, 0.017 above Twins for worst OPS - 0.612 - #28 in MLB for hitting on the road, 0.012 above Twins for worst No other team in baseball has offensive stats that different when comparing home and road production. To this point in the season, the Brewers are literally the best offensive team when playing at home close to the worst offensive team when playing on the road. It's startling how night and day different some of these slash line stats are. Small sample noted, but they can't say they've only played cupcakes at home and ace pitchers on the road, either. A 261-point discrepancy between home and away OPS for an entire team? That's crazy!
  7. I think part of the early season stuff aside from the infield grounder plays at the plate is early bad decisions by Sedar sending guys home from 2nd on hits when they had no chance of beating a decent throw, then players running through a few of his stop signs in similar situations that led to outs at the plate or at third base.
  8. I think both of these managers are falling over themselves to find ways to lose the game instead of win it.
  9. Don't see how you don't try to go for the jugular and get a pinch hitter in that spot - Brewers seem to manage scoring the absolute minimum # of runs the team provides for them in spots like this. 2 Doubles, two walks and a hit batter all with 1 out and they get 2 runs while stranding 3
  10. Is RR trying to keep this game close? Why not Boggs in this spot?
  11. not watching the game, but last pitch didn't show up as close on the gameday pitchtrax...
  12. This park plays like Petco at night, you'd have to hit an absolute bomb to get it out in center field
  13. lost in all this Wolf ranting and raving is the fact that the offense forgot to show up to the ballpark tonight thus far.
  14. one more mound visit and Lucroy's going to channel Crash Davis this inning when Kemp comes up... "here comes the deuce - and when you speak of me, speak well"
  15. I think all the mound visits and multiple signs are Wolf's way of trying to lull opposing batters to sleep so he doesn't get shelled - sorta like the Doug Davis 15-second windup and catnap between pitches, only more annoying to Brewer fans.
  16. Randy Wolf is giving the Brewers a reason to carry 13 pitchers
  17. So now Braddock hopefully comes back soon to settle in as a lefty reliever who's more than a LOOGY, and Nieves will be the next to get his walking papers. Then Morgan comes off the DL and the tough decision of what reliever or outfielder goes. ...or when the time comes for a DH on the Brewer bench during interleague, Nieves says goodbye for good when Gamel could be recalled.
  18. plays like he made last night directly taking a run off the board have to skew the current defensive stats...for as horrible as Gomez was at the plate last night, he took a run away from the Dodgers and scored one of the 3 runs in the game. I'd love for him to get put where he belongs in the #8 spot in the lineup, because I think most all the criticism he gets stems from his manager hitting him in the wrong spot in the order. Getting Morgan back healthy should increase Gomez's value to this team even more, as long as RR gives Nyjer a fair # of starts in center and has Gomez available for pinch running/late inning defense. I'd actually be thrilled if Gomez hit anywhere after #5 in the order when he starts...just somewhere not directly in between the 3 best hitters on the team.
  19. Watching the KC-Cleveland game last night was like watching a minor league Brewers' intersquad game a few years ago... LaPorta, Brantley, Jeffress, Escobar... Cleveland reminds me of the 07 Brewers, who got off to that great surprise early season start only to realize that their pitching wasn't that good, and ended the season at 0.500 after falling on their face during the summer months when contending teams start showing their true colors. I remember all the posts about how they only had to maintain a 0.510 winning percentage or whatever to get to 90 wins and take the division easily after May that season - didn't happen.
  20. Hart is useless - can we see more of Kotsay in right, please?
  21. hilarious game thread so far...here's the summary: 1st 2 pages - "GOMEZ STINKS!!!" 2nd 2 pages - "GOMEZ ROCKS!!!" 5th pages - "GOMEZ STINKS!!!" If there were a separate game thread for Gomez, Kotsay, and Betancourt comments, the regular game thread wouldn't get past the 1st page.
  22. When it's a team like the Cubs, no effort to hate them is required whatsoever - being transplanted down around Chicagoland has guaranteed me that. My experience down here has led me to think that the most annoying of the Bear fans are all Cub fans. I will hate the Cardinals as long as LaRussa, Pujols, and Molina are part of that team. I will hate the Astros as long as they continue to play home games in a stadium that allows for 275' homeruns to left field. Hate is too strong a word toward the Reds - I would call it begrudging respect...I wish they hadn't owned us over the past few seasons, though. I love the Pirates, because every May there's a story about how they've turned a corner - and right after that they go in the tank for two weeks and they're never heard from again. They're always good for a +8 in the win column for the Crew during their head-head matchups over the course of a season.
  23. If Milwaukee can improve the SS, backup catcher, and utility infielder positions next season I'd be fine with Gomez getting the majority of starts in center, especially if Morgan's still on the roster as the 4th OF who can spell Gomez as needed. Gomez's defensive value alone warrants him getting consistent playing time on a team currently full of defensive liabilities. Any marginal improvement in Gomez's offense improves his value to the team significantly, as long as he's hitting toward the bottom of the lineup.
  24. It's a tough decision to pull the plug on a starter early, but when the roster currently has 18 or so pitchers on it with several who can play the mop-up role, why will RR wait to make a change until the game's completely out of reach? This lineup isn't going to make George Webb fear cheap burgers.
