  1. We must make lemonade out of these lemons, then, by naming the platoon. Someone recently suggested Go Diego Go - I forget it if it was in the chat or a thread. I like that better than Edmez or Go-dmonds.
  2. The comic strip Funky Winkerbean. For some crazy reason I thought comic strips were supposed to be funny, or at least amusing. Funky has become flat-out depressing. Cancer, car accidents, MIA soldiers, crappy economy, and now another car accident. If I want to be bummed out I have endless sources for that - I don't need it from the comics. Something must really be going wrong in Tom Batiuk's life.
  3. Now the next time Dave Bush/Narvdog/Doug Davis/Randy Wolf/whoever is up to like 70 pitches in the 3rd inning, there'll be reason to leave him in...because you can still turn a start like that around and record a no-hitter!
  4. I wish I had been at this game so I could have looked like a genius with my new Lucroy shirt. Way to get the RBI monkey off your back, kid. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Come on, Brewers. How about a 1-0 record for June 25? Like the Mariners' throwback jerseys (as well as the Brewers', of course). For some reason it didn't occur to me that Seattle would have the old school look too.
  6. Oh, man, the "Rudy" music. Thanks for sharing. I think my favorite part was the kid who appeared to be watching alone in his wood paneled basement, then ran up the stairs, then ran back down with his jersey off. As I type this, at UW-Madison's Memorial Union Rathskeller is a very avid group of Chile fans watching Chile-Spain. One appears to have brought a drum to keep time with their songs and chants. I wish I could have stayed, just to watch those fans, but my lunch break ended.
  7. Well, a recovery that is "slower than (Uecker) would like" doesn't alarm me as much as a recovery that's slower than his doctors would like. I'm going to guess for the moment that the Capital Newspapers person heard him say "next week" during his visit and took that literally. The real outcome lies probably somewhere in between, and of course the very most important thing is for Bob to fully recover, even if that takes longer than he would like. Meanwhile, for those who missed Bob's visit on Thursday and don't have or don't want to cue up Gameday Audio, here's a link to his comments.
  8. Bob was in the radio booth during the 2nd inning of Thursday's game (as was mentioned in the June 24 IGT). Tonight I found this blurb on madison.com: I only heard the tail end of Bob's appearance on the radio broadcast, and frankly got the impression when he said he'd be back next week that it would be for another visit - not to be fully back on the job. That this possible return doesn't seem to be cited anywhere else makes me skeptical that Bob could already be back for more than a visit. It's terrific news to hear that his recovery is progressing, though. He sounded noticeably better on the radio today - none of the hoarseness that was so noticeable in March and April.
  9. I'd like to give a shoutout to Yuku for making this site inaccessible to me for most of the last hour. This was the Brewers' first three-game sweep of Minnesota, in Milwaukee, since 1989. It's about time! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Curse you, Drew Butera. I was trying to distract myself from "the zeroes" by wondering if Yuku (which has been telling me several times this afternoon that a server is not available and would I please try to resend) would fail as Yovani possibly approached a no-hitter, and how bf.net nation would have handled that. But priorities first. Keep the shutout going, indeed.
  11. Imagine my joy at returning to Gameday, hearing Cory say, "just cleared the wall into the Brewers' bullpen" and seeing that it was not only a Brewers home run, but the score is 4-0. Short-term joy, yeah, but I'll take it for now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif My Twins fan coworker will be here in a few minutes...I'll find a way to break the news.
  12. As I understand it, the radio will sound for all tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings (in the county/counties you specify). You cannot avoid those. You might be able to program out tornado watches and severe thunderstorm watches. I could check our manual at home to verify that. You can program out other hazards, mostly either less immediate ones (like a blizzard warning) or those that don't happen everywhere (like a tsunami warning). If you really truly only want to know about a tornado bearing down on you, Bob Lindmeier will call you, at least as long as you're living in the channel 27 viewing area. But if WKOW has that technology, surely a station in Milwaukeeland must as well.
  13. His voice sounds a TON better. Man, is that encouraging. And Bob said he'll be back (I'm guessing to visit) later in the homestand. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Not to sound like Gary Cannalte or your mom, but PeaveyFury and burniebrewer bring up two good reasons to have a weather radio. We have one downstairs and even on a low volume setting the alarm is enough to wake us up upstairs. We've found it to be more reliable than outdoor sirens. Some are programmable so you only hear about warnings and watches in your county instead of, say, all of southern Wisconsin.
  15. I need to add (now that I've confirmed it) that Brewerfan's own Bikeage77 was captured on the videoboard between the 8th and 9th innings last night. Nice air drumming. Real nice!
  16. It was a happy night for the hawing party, which has battled to a 6-8 record on the season (5-6 at Miller Park). I didn't check out all corners of the ballpark, but estimate a 60/40 Brewers/Twins fan ratio in the home plate terrace area. It was muggy but probably 10-15 degrees cooler than the dreadful Twins game we sat through last year. Trevor did get up briefly toward the end of the 8th inning, after Axford had been throwing for a while. I thought maybe this would be the night they tried Hoff again, but obviously not. In breaking "shirsey" news, the field level team store now has Narveson shirts. My first thought was, "hmm, they must be keeping Narvdog on the 25 man roster, if not in the rotation." My second thought was, "maybe it was just handy to replace the #37 shirt shelf with #38 shirts." There are still no Lucroy shirts, but I stepped up and had one made at the custom counter, so I am now walking the walk. The custom shirt maker was surprised that there aren't pre-made Lucroy shirts yet. Seriously, whoever thinks Zaun and Hawkins shirts are going to sell anymore (especially at full price) needs to sit down and think about it.
  17. We'll drive 90 minutes through the storms and traffic to watch in person tonight. Manny, please do me a favor and bring your good game.
  18. Maybe the pierogi racer's mom played a role in the rehiring: I'm not sure I'd want to make a Pittsburgh mother mad. Those ladies can be tough.
  19. What's more, Bob Lindmeier said on the 10:00 news that the storms wouldn't get here until 4:00. Bob owes me an hour of sleep and I'd like to collect it now!
  20. We've been awakened by a delightful lightning show + tornado watch in effect until 9:00 AM. Sleep is for the weak?
  21. No offense, Drick33, but I found the mystery of your altered first post a little more compelling. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Still, your avatar photo is great.
  22. Getting back to the original question, Tuesday's game seems like a decent start.
  23. I for one welcome Rickie's Badger Mutual Insurance Run. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Thanks for making it "a game," Casey. And Diego with the wily veteran baserunning - wow. Edit: And Narvdog helps his own cause!
