  1. I saw Star Wars in a theater in 1977, at age 11, and that was enough for me. I was persuaded to see The Empire Strikes Back when it re-entered theaters (in the 90s?), but it really was one too many in the series for me. I just can't sustain an interest in science fiction and fantasy. Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR, Harry Potter, Hitchhiker's Guide, Dungeons and Dragons, it doesn't matter. Many of my friends, from high school to the present day, were/are into this stuff and I've tried to share their interest. It's like the episode of The Simpsons where Bart tries to read a news story in a newspaper, gets through half a sentence and groans loudly before turning to the comics. I also have never used tobacco in any format, unless you count secondhand smoke, and that was involuntary. I wish I could say I'd never had coffee, but someone messed up my hot chocolate order in a coffee shop once. That was unpleasant. I've never been in a taxicab. I've also never stayed up all night. Even in college, I could not physically do an all-nighter. (The ironic flip side is that I've struggled with insomnia my whole life, but that would derail the thread.)
  2. Imagine my pleasant surprise to get back to a computer (I had to leave just before the Brewers began scoring) to find a box score for a Brewers win. Joe Inglett with the go-ahead dinger in the top of the ninth. That gives him points in my book.
  3. Even I am entertaining the possibility of that particular silver lining. 3-0 Cubs. "Suppan giving up some hard-hit balls in the zone" (Brian A.).
  4. I didn't get the impression that anything was free besides box scores and non-premium Gameday. Maybe Friday's broadcast was a special freebie? On a note related more to this game, guess who's the first Brewers spring training starter to give up a run in 2010? Cold Soup. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  5. Game's underway now; and MLB.com seems to be trying to make up for the low volume of the broadcast a few days ago. That was a surprise in the earbuds. Edit: 56 degrees in Phoenix / 46 wind chill. (43/39 in Madison). Ouch for Wisconsinite visitors.
  6. My S.O. has the opportunity to attend a conference in DC the same weekend that the Brewers play there in mid-April. How convenient! So I'm wondering... - if anyone here is planning to attend (probably the Saturday or Sunday game, April 17 or 18) - if anyone who has been there before has suggestions for where to sit, or advice on how far in advance to buy tickets. Looking at their website, they seem kind of pricey for a struggling team with less than huge attendance figures. - if the Nationals fans are tough on visitors (i.e. should I leave a Brewers jersey at home and wear something more understated) or if they're maybe just beaten down by the pain that comes with being recent Nats fans. - about any other tips bf.netters might have that would make a trip to Nationals Park more enjoyable. Thanks!
  7. Kirby's kasing with krisp kraut. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Just for fun, let's have a thread about common things you have never done - that might surprise others, if you admitted it. (Do stay within the bounds of our forum etiquette, though.) I'll start: I've never eaten Taco Bell food. This was easy during the first 20 years of my life because I did not have access to a TB. Then the first one I was near - Madison's State Street location - had a hepatitis scare early in its tenure, which didn't make me any more eager. Plus there was that Taco John's on Regent (so it's not like I never had "Mexican" fast food, just never the Bell). By now, I consider it a small badge of pride, and want to see if I can live my whole life without "thinking beyond the bun." What's yours?
  9. Who was just named the Big Ten Player of the Week? hawing's basketball fan crush, that's who. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Then that's not really a bonanza. They might just as well have called it a Kendall bobblehead giveaway. There has to be some way to pose those extra Kendalls in a TMZ-esque diorama.
  11. Honestly, I'm more surprised that Jason Kendall is getting any non-baseball media attention. I suppose the real draw for TMZ is the Rod Stewart connection?
  12. Breaking hotdog news! Apparently it takes four types of Schweigert hot dogs to replace the Hormel Dome Dog. The "Dollar A Dog" promotion will be back, featuring the Original Twins Dog, a limit of 2 per customer, and a stadium wide limit of 20,000 per game. And should you be in need of Twins hot dog lore, here is a story I wasn't aware of, but some of you probably knew already: And all the Miller Park faithful do is boo ex-Brewers.
  13. It's also in the TV listings for 7:00 PM Central on FSWisconsin.
  14. Link while active, text follows: I suppose you can't have a Dome Dog where there is no dome. If there were a "twinsfan.net" worth its salt, they'd have a thread following this extreme breaking news. (And I suppose salt is a semi-intended pun.)
  15. If I recall correctly, it's worth keeping an eye on the crowd, for a possible glimpse of sgtcluels and ewizabeff.
  16. Yes, behold as one of your staffers geeks out over Doug Davis' first Brewers appearance since 2006. Seriously, even if the chat count says "zero" during a game, give it a try and enter. For reasons beyond our control, the counter does not always update promptly.
  17. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif 12-1 entering the 9th. Maybe the Brewers can hang on this time. I'm already tired of this "like vs. love" campaign for Miller beer. Edited to correct the score. I'm still getting into IGT shape. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Does that ever actually work?? I hear the idea get thrown around a lot regarding ligament damage, but it never seems to end well. Either the guy tries to do strengthening rehab for several weeks, realizes it's not going to work, and ends up having surgery anyway (and now they're several weeks behind in their recovery) -- or they actually do end up trying to play through it but are a shell of their former selves. Yeah, it's not like Brewers fans have to look far to find examples of players who decided to chance avoiding surgery and then had to get it anyway. I thought of mentioning that in my first post above, but decided to play it straight.
  19. Is that the first Brewers HR of the year? I remember Corey hit the first one last year. Nice to hear Cappy doing all right...at least it sounds that way. Edit: And what a relief it is to know that Brewers baseball is still presented by Kohl's.
  20. ESPN link He can have surgery (with no guarantee for a full recovery) or work on strengthening his shoulder over the next 4-6 weeks.
  21. As a Dane County heads-up, WIBA 1310 is carrying this game, starting at 1:55. So I will be multi-tasking with joy.
  22. I know spring training isn't all about wins, but I'm already a bit tired of the Brewers losing leads in the latter innings.
  23. Thanks. I now see it updated on Gameday. Ouch for Oeltjen. I hope his HBP doesn't result in injury.
  24. I missed the A's run (it's currently 6-1 Brewers in the 6th). Did Villa give it up? And if so, does that destroy his last remaining shred of a chance with Macha? On a different topic...ooh ooh - Gabe Gross sighting (as much as you can use the word 'sighting' during an audio broadcast).
