  1. I know this will probably be billed as a stupid idea, but IF we trade away Prince Fielder for starting pitching, and the organization isn't comfortable with Gamel or Nelson at first base, what would it take to get Kevin Youkilis? Since its been reported that the Red Sox are going after Mark Teixeira, the thinking is that Youkilis would be available via trade. Any thoughts?
  2. I just got home (Marshfield) from Appleton and the word from radio and weather forecasts here with snow starting this evening are anywhere from 3"-6" in Wausau to 8"-12" in Marshfield/Stevens Point. Strong winds tomorrow with snow diminishing in the afternoon. Green Bay/Fox Valley area expected to recieve 8"-14" by tomorrow evening.
  3. I agree with invader. A 6 year deal wouldn't be terrible with an incentive laden and out clause contract. And who knows, a 6 year's for CC may not be that bad. Its not like we would be giving that deal to an injury prone guy (not referring to Sheets just a general comment). Still think they are stretching it if they think they can get him back, but they are giving it the best shot that a small market team can.
  4. Wow I've been going to distant replays for about 3 years now and never thought of putting a link here. Glad someone did. One of the coolest purchases I made there was a 1957 Milwaukee Braves World champions t-shirt. Whenever I wear it people can't believe I found something like that. Also purchased my Mitchell and Ness Molitor jersey from them. Good prices and unique gear and memorabilia. Everyone should check it out.
  5. I gotta agree with brewcrew. As soon as I saw it was airing I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The back and forth with Bob Gibson and Jim Palmer was awesome. And just to hear two living legends discuss their playing career and the current state of the game was intriguing and educational. I hope everyone on brewerfan can watch this. Great show!!
  6. Pitching and in-game to me are the most important. As said before as long as the players don't hate you, and you have their respect (to a certain extent), they will play hard for you. And as for public relations, personally I could care less what a manager says to the media. I'll even go as far as saying a little Lee Elia never hurt anyone!
  7. My vote would be for Davey Johnson. If Showalter gets hired for some reason that scares me. Just something about players opinions when it comes to him that makes em shudder when I think of seeing him in a Brewers uni. And to touch on an earlier post. I am from Marshfield and although it would be a MAJOR long shot for Gary Varsho to be hired as a manager, I have it from a good source that he was seriously considering looking into an open position as bench coach in Milwaukee. He has the experience (Philly and Pittsburgh) and from what I've been told would like to be closer to home.
  8. As a fan who griped about and cheered for Geoff Jenkins a lot in his career at Milwaukee, in a weird way I am actually happy for him to be on a team that may go to the World Series. Although he was hurt and maybe didn't play a pivotal role for thier ballclub, I feel he has had a good career and is one of those players who you like to see be a part of a good post-season run. After the Matt Stairs home run last night, when I saw Geoff in the bullpen, it got me thinking about it and wondering what the rest of your opinions would be on the subject. Any thoughts?
  9. I know this is probably way out there for most of you, but I am from Marshfield and I have pretty good info of one guy who has said he is going to apply for the bench coach job next year in Milwaukee. Whether he gets it or not is questionable. Gary Varsho is who I was told will apply. For those of you who don't know, he is a Wisconsin native and has been the bench coach for the Phillies and the Pirates.
  10. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but as a bar manager who deals with these so called "idiot" fans, I love the fact that more and more people are becoming interested in the Brewers. Three years ago I would have the game on nightly at the bar and hardly anyone was watching or even cared except for me and a few other people. But with the team playing well last year and the success this year, more and more people are following the team, whether it's through the Journal-Sentinel, local news, or (God forbid) BBTN. But no matter how they follow the team, I have heard more and more people discussing the team than ever before. And to have these conversations on a nightly basis I gotta say "man I hate these bandwagon fans forcing me to talk about Brewer baseball".
  11. In my opinion I understand the superstition factor but that only relates to the players on the field. Not the broadcasters or the fans. We all have little superstitions when it comes to the game. My brother has to sit in the same chair and drink the same drink for home games. He "thinks" it helps. As kids we were taught that rally caps work. In the whole scheme of things none of this really affects the outcome and deep down we all know it, but it still remains a part of being a fan and I love it. On another note, joepepsi you are 100% correct. I also have extra innings and some of the other teams announcers are dreadful. NESN is great along with FSN Arizona IMO. YES Network is terrible, but the worst, by far, are the Mariners announcers. Just utterly horrible. No emotion just monotone. We are lucky to have the broadcasters that we do. Believe me folks it could be a ton worse.
  12. You are correct. Free MLB Entra Innings and Superfan thru the 23rd. Personally I have had extra innings the last three years and I love it. The new strike zone channel this year is a major upgrade also. I don't know what the price is for the second half of the year but I would recommend it.
  13. I've often wondered about the coughing thing too. I just can't believe some people haven't noticed it until it was pointed out. Like it's been said before its so constant its ridiculous. On the bench, in the field , after an at-bat. I would go for the exercise induced asthma also. And can someone get Sheets a nail clipper please? I swear he's gonna get a hangnail and end up on the 15 day DL.
  14. Most In A Season At Home AL New York 65 1961 Lost 16 NL Cincinnati 64 1975 Lost 17 Thats from Baseball Almanac. So yeah its possible but not very probable.
  15. I agree with the masses glad to see Rickie back although Counsell has been playing quite well in the short stint. And for those who think Counsell's everyday production would best Rickie in the long run, let's remember what Counsell said at the beginning of the year. IIRC it was something along the lines of, and I quote, "If I'm playing everyday this team is in trouble".
  16. Yeah gotta say that I have held out on a Yost comment for as long as possible also but my lord last night's decision was one of the dumbest, and to quote a post above, asinine things I have ever seen. I mean there have been plenty of things he has done that makes me raise an eyebrow (or two or four), but why take out Villanueva? And the "we" comment to the media? If I was a reporter I would have really had to try hard to bite my tongue. There is no reason that we should lose that game and give up a great opportunity to move closer in the standings. Unbelievable.
  17. Yeah I agree with the above statement. With so many shifts being implemented (drastic or minor), it makes total sense. I've seen all three of our starters use them, plus plenty of other outfielders in the bigs. If I had to venture a guess I would say anywhere from 85 to 95% of outfielders use the card.
  18. Just got my Sporting News today and Prince is on the cover. Also, pretty good article on Prince and the team inside. Has a great picture of Braun at Wrigley making a catch and has a section called "10 one-of-a-kind facts about a one-of-a-kind team". Good read pick it up if you don't subscribe.
  19. IMO we do have the best tandem for broadcasting out there. I have extra innings and watch other games regularly and OMG some of the announcers out there are just terrible. While there are good ones, such as the p-b-p and color on NESN, a vast majority are increasingly annoying as the game progresses.
  20. What else can be said about this complete and utter idiot who probably in public calls himself a "journalist"? Reading that article proves to me that this guy is the figurehead for blind and pathetic Cubs fans everywhere. And series I agree with your statement, even without a picture I can't take him seriously. There are so many parts of the "article" that are just horrible I don't have time to rant. And while your at it, baseballevolution, take OUR Bob Uecker off of the side of your website. Just an ad, but even he would cringe reading this piece of junk rant.
  21. Superfan is $50 more for the year, so 4 payments of $12.50 on top of the extra innings cost. So in the long run if you got the package, and since they are making it better this year with ch721 and the load of HD games, superfan is worth it IMO. And I don't understand why 642 isn't a full time channel either, but at least DTV customers get pre and post game.
  22. Thats the thing about Superfan this year. While I enjoyed it last year, without the audio problems you had, this year they do have a channel that will be like NFL red zone. Heres the exact fact sheet for this year: SuperFan is an add-on package available only to MLB EXTRA INNING® subscribers. SuperFan cannot be purchased separately as a standalone baseball subscription package. SuperFan includes: HD games (ch. 722-737): Watch up to 40 games per week in brilliant HD! To access DIRECTV® HD programming, a Five-LNB Dish, a DIRECT HD Receiver, HD television equipment and HD Access($9.99/mo.) fee are required. Game Mix Channel (ch. 720): See up to 8 live games on one screen simultaneously. (requires interactive receiver for full functionality) Strike Zone Channel™ (ch. 721): DIRECTV takes you from game to game to see scoring rallies, critical at bats and other impact moments as they happen. So there ya go. I never had the audio problems though. Weird.
  23. Don't know if this is the help your looking for but I have Directv and I get Extra Innings every year. I can watch the Cubs stink it up on regular Comcast, WGN or the feed through the Extra Innings package. Same with the Crew as the game is being played you can watch it on regular FSN Wisconsin feed (ch. 642) or the feed through the Extra Innings package. But if your seriously gonna get Extra Innings, pony up for the SuperFan package. It makes it so much better. I hope I helped you out a little bit if at all.
  24. Yeah I really didn't get the Peavy ejection but whatever. Man was I laughing just looking at what they are calling a baseball team in Chicago right now. Tempers in the clubhouse, Lee throws an unnecessary punch IMO and Zambrano dances around like a drunken fool. Amazing to see how that team has imploded over the last few weeks emotionally. I like the "prince is more mature" comment in a previous post. No punches from the big daddy just a home run and emotion at the plate. So much more class it makes me even more proud to be a Brewer fan.
