The longer the season goes and Brousseau keeps that OPS over/around .800, the harder the decisions get about who to keep up when Adames returns. Not that it's a bad thing to have too many guys producing to have to deal with tough decisions about who to send down.

I know Hiura is still striking out a lot (like a LOT), but he's doing enough (I think) to earn a little bit of playing time. He's got a .750 OPS now, and in 2022, that's alright. As long as he can keep it in that area, he's contributing.

How many games over .500 do we have to be before we're "good"? Because I think this is a pretty ok team.

I'm not worried if they're top 10, or top 6, or top 3 or whatever. The only thing that I'm worried about, honestly, is if they're good enough to get past the Mets, and then (probably) the Dodgers. Are the Brewers better than the Dodgers? Nah. Can they be for 7 games? Maybe. We've seen any number of teams get hot at the right time (or cold.... dun dun dun). Does this team have a decent mix, especially if we have a decent, .825-ish OPS Yelich in the middle of the order, that could go toe to toe with the Dodgers? Maybe. Top 3, 5, 6, 10, doesn't matter. We have who we have. We're gonna win the central, barring spectacular catastrophe. We already know the Dodgers are a "better" team. Just have to be better for 7 games.

After being at 36 pitches after 2, getting 7 scoreless out of Freddy is one heck of a night.

Well, the Brewers are 6th in the NL in walks, and first in the league in pitches per plate appearance, so probably not.

The Suns are down 40, halfway through the third quarter. Cam Johnson is their scoring leader with 5 points. Talk about laying an egg in a game 7.

Yeah they just weren't getting ANY scoring in this series aside from Giannis or Holiday. They didn't need someone else to be Middleton, but someone else or several someone else's needed to shoulder some of the scoring load. As noted before, Lopez looks cooked, Allen sucked, and Bud just didn't do anything to adjust. Bobby didn't play particularly well in this series, unfortunately, and he's the one guy who could have offset the loss of Middleton to some degree. It is what it is. Horst has his work cut out for him.

If it was just "elimination" games, I'd count that hilarious game 6 against the Bulls when they lost by like 66 I think.

Seven innings, seven punch-outs, no walks, and again only one run allowed on a solo home run in the third inning. Burnes getting through seven complete today is a nice pick up for a bullpen that's been working extra innings over the last week-plus with some short starts. The Brewers jumped on the board in the first inning on a Kolten Wong lead-off home run. After a rocky start to the season at the plate, Wong has righted the ship, and has quietly put up some solid numbers recently, including a .942 OPS over the last fourteen days. Wong's defense remains a question mark. A -0.3 Bref dWAR at this point in the season is certainly uncharacteristic, and certainly when the Brewers signed Wong, a big part of the value in his signing was the defense. We'll see if he can tame that glove and get the defense turned around along with the bat. With former Brewer Jesus Aguilar tying the game with a solo home run in the third inning, the score stayed 1-1 until the ninth inning. Burnes gave way to lightning rod reliever Devin Williams, who worked a clean eighth inning, striking out two. The Brewers put one on the board in the ninth with a bases loaded walk by Jace Peterson to retake the lead. It looked like a further opportunity squandered as they scored just once after having the sacks loaded with nobody out. It was all academic however, as closer Josh Hader came in and finished the game on seven pitches and the Brewers took game one. Burnes didn't get the win, leaving his record on the season just 1-2, but more importantly, the Brewers did get the win in a game he started. Hader recorded his thirteenth save in as many tries. Game 2 -- Marlins 9, Brewers 3 https://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/gameId/401354742 Eric Lauer took the bump for the Brewers tonight and suffered the rare rough start as the Marlins touched him up for three home runs in the fourth inning. The Brewers once again jumped on the board first with a solo home run by Willy Adames in the first inning, but that would be all the offense they'd muster until the game was out of reach. Lauer worked scoreless through the first three innings, allowing just one base runner on a single. Holding a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, he surrendered home runs to Jesus Aguilar, Jorge Soler, and Brian Anderson, and left the inning down 4-1. It's now the second game in a row former Brewers all-star Aguilar has taken one out of the park against his former team. Trevor Gott came on in the sixth and failed to record an out as the Marlins tacked on another four-spot off of both Gott and Jandel Gustave. The Brewers got two back in the eighth inning on Hunter Renfroe's ninth home run of the year, a 428 foot shot to left. The Brewers scored in the first again, just like each of the first two games of the series, this time on a Luis Urias sacrifice fly. The Marlins got two unearned runs off of Woodruff in the second inning, and struck again with a Jorge Soler solo home run in the third. Down 3-1, the Brewers looked to be headed towards a third straight series defeat. Then in the top of the fifth the bats came alive. Jace Peterson and Kolten Wong hit back-to-back solo home runs. Four batters later, a two-run, two out single by Rowdy Tellez put the Brewers up 5-3. Woodruff pitched through five innings and handed the ball over to Aaron Ashby who pitched brilliant in relief. Ashby went four innings, striking out eight, and not allowing a hit or a walk, picking up the save. Tellez picked up his eighth home run of the season in the seventh inning, and Luis Urias closed the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth. Willy Adames left the game in the second inning after tweaking an ankle. It was mentioned on the radio broadcast that he would be listed as day-to-day. It seems reasonable that the Brewers will give a more comprehensive status update on Adames on Monday, and hopefully any news that comes out about his injury won't include any kind of lengthy IL stay. Despite the rocky and inconsistent play, the Brewers head home with a 4-5 record on the road trip, and as of this writing, still holding a three game advantage over second-place St. Louis, who plays later tonight at San Francisco. I'd rather see Ashby be a multi-inning stopper like Hader was when he came up initially, and maybe be an occasional emergency spot starter. I know his role is eventually going to be a starter, but right now it just feels like he's more suited for the pen, and that's definitely where the team has more need of him at the current time as well.

There's usually a pretty decent difference between performance and results. Woodruff's fip is 3.61. His xfip is 3.25. He's throwing the ball well, spotting it well, and generally "performing" the same as he has in the past three years. If you believe in the data, you're going to be good with that and accept that over the course of 30 or so starts, his stats should normalize. The results haven't been there. ERA is a wonky stat. We've known that for a while now. If you're a person who doesn't like these fancy newfangled nerd stats, you probably think Woodruff is struggling and that's fine. At the end of the year, nobody gets a trophy for best xFIP. They get a trophy for division titles and WS titles. Results are what matters. But in between that, if you dissect the data, you will see that Woodruff isn't struggling, it's just a blip on the radar of a small sample size, and he's gonna get through it. And we'll be fine.

regardless of what Woody's peripherals say, it's frustrating that it's not leading to results obviously. I'm sure he'll turn it around still. if there's something mechanical, I trust the staff to figure it out.

Marcus smart is an embarrassment to athletics in general. good lord.

Lopez is still a great defender down in the paint. he defends drives and the rim really well. that being said, as pointed out, he can't defend on the perimeter at all. hes slow when he has to rotate or switch, and chasing guys out to the 3 pt line makes him a liability and opens lanes.

I know academically the answer is "no", but I wonder if pro athletes ever watch themselves do stuff like this and like..... get embarrassed by it? rhetorical question, I know, but Smart had to know he's getting roasted for it today.

Man, Marcus Smart tipped the rebound to Bobby Portis for the game winning bucket, gets blocked, and then gets stripped when he (potentially) had Tatum streaking on the right wing for an open-ish look at a tying 3. All within 11 seconds.
