  1. How about Jose Trevino from Texas? Failing that, I have no problem extending Lucroy and having him and Braun. If the Brewers can trade K-Rod and Garza, then those two won't blow the payroll.
  2. Between Arcia, Lara, Rivera, and Iskenderian, why not deal Gatewood? The Brewers are still getting a SS/3B in return (Cordell), and if Gatewood and some package (Cotts? K-Rod?) nets Kepler... that gives the Brewers a first baseman and left-handed bat.
  3. TEX gets: OF Khris Davis (from MIL) LHP Cameron Booser (from MIN) MIL gets: OF/3B/SS Ryan Cordell (from TEX) OF/1B Max Kepler (from MIN) C Jose Trevino (from TEX) MIN gets: SS Jake Gatewood (from MIL) LHP Neal Cotts (from MIL) Thoughts?
  4. What to make of Michael Reed's small sample in AAA? Two doubles, a walk, and four RBI today - his batting average is .182, but he's walking a lot, and when he gets hits, they're doubles or triples. Reed may well be ready to compete for a job in Milwaukee next spring.
  5. I am an eternal optimist vis-a-vis the Brewers. The Brewers have had talent in the front office before. Jack Z, for instance. Doug Melvin, overall, has been a very good GM, I think. Ray Montgomery seems to have done well with the draft. The real key is for Attanasio to trust the people he's hired to do their jobs.
  6. Davis appears to have improved his plate discipline - 30 walks in 266 PAs this year as opposed to 32 in 549 PA last year. Even though his average has dropped 12 points, his OBP has gone up 21 points. Might be wroth a long look at Davis - both as a trade asset, and as a part moving forward.
  7. I really dislike the mercy rule. Play the full game, gosh darn it!
  8. Small sample size, but Suter's posting a 2.38 ERA with the Sky Sox... might be worth trying out i the rotation for 2016.
  9. What about using Taylor as trade bait - say to sweeten a Garza package?
  10. If Garza is back to career norms in 2016, and he is healthy, then the Brewers could get a good return for him around the deadline. Probably MORE of a return than for Gallardo, since he would be under contract for 2017 and possibly 2018 (depending on if he is vested). I'm not worried, especially since he's pitching lights-out since he came off the DL.
  11. I know Pena's old for the league... but if he can handle A/A+ next year, and AA/AAA the year after that... he might be a useful player.
  12. Actually roache's line at Brevard County was .259/.326/.448. His Biloxi line is .267/.336/.513. He's worth a look at Spring Training.
  13. Honestly, depending on how Victor Roache does in spring training, I could see an Opening Day 2016 OF of Roache in left, Reed in center, and Santana in right.
  14. Reed's numbers over the last three years: 2013: .286/.385/.400 2014: .255/.396/.378 2015: .283/.381/.437 (combined and to date) So... I think it is reasonable to expect a .380 OBP with 25-30 steals and some extra base hits. I'm thinking Brady Clark-esque production, but the OBP is there, and will be from the get-go. If he could work out in the weight room some... who knows? He could blossom big-time.
  15. The best rotation, IMO: Jungmann, Peralta, Nelson, and two of Cravy/Davies/Suter/Thornburg/Hader/Wagner/Johnson
  16. I think Reed is in the mix for the starting CF job in 2016... his speed and OBP skills make him a decent option to lead off. Santana could fit nicely in right field, moving Braun to either left or first.
  17. What I think is the best possible offensive lineup, assuming no trades, and disregarding defense as I usually do: cf: Reed ss: Arcia 3b: Braun 1b: Lind rf: Santana c: Lucroy lf: Roache 2b: Gennett/Segura platoon pitcher With a bench of Maldonado, Segura/Gennett, Hernan Perez, Schafer, and Khris Davis.
  18. Brent Suter keeps up with the good starts... time to let him go for a 2016 rotation spot in Milwaukee?
  19. How much could be that opposing pitchers are trying to pitch around Braun since the Brewers don't have folks who can make them pay for doing so? For his early career, he did have Prince Fielder behind him, and in 2012, a full-strength Ramirez.
  20. One comment from the Parra thread drew my attention and got me thinking: My thinking is that with a wealth of young talent in the minors (Arcia, Santana, Reed, Phillips, Roache...), maybe the Brewers should view Jon Lucroy and Ryan Braun as their veteran core for the 2017-2021 timeframe. Braun for obvious reasons, but Lucroy may be more valuable on the Brewers roster than as trade-bait. Lucroy's ability to frame pitches may make the young starters in the Brewers system (Cravy, Suter, Wagner, Davies, Hader, Johnson, Kirby, Meideros, etc.) that much better. If that is the case, then it might make more sense to pay Lucroy, and just cycle through younger pitchers - and being open to trading some of the young pitchers as they reach their arby years, so the Brewers could afford to give Lucroy a suitable extension. So here's the question: Should the Brewers keep Lucroy, and pay him appropriately, and surround him and Braun with young players in 2017-2020, or should they trade him?
  21. I've come to the conclusion that Jon Lucroy may be someone to keep as part of a core, especially with a lot of young pitchers in the system. His bat, I think may be less important than his pitch-framing, which may make those young pitchers that much better. If he makes young pitchers better, then that presents a lot of options.
  22. This. Melvin can't force the other team to do something they don't want to do. If they were willing to deal Wheeler and did trade Fulmer, I'm willing to bet that trading both was an option if we wanted it. We just wanted Flores for some reason. Arcia's service clock. It's a question of whether Arcia is a free agent in 2021 (if he's the OD 2016 SS) or 2022 (if he's OD 2017).
  23. The thing is, Lucroy can make these starters better with his pitch framing. While his bat may decline - I think the pitch framing will improve over time, and Lucroy will "steal" more strikes - so that he knock s what should be a 3.70 ERA to a 3.30. An extension of $12 million a year for Lucroy, who makes a constant influx of young starters better, might very well be the better bargain over the long haul.
