  1. I'm thinking a bit that way as well... The Brewers still could get a top ten pick this year, and that and the CB pick will help. If the Brewers could swing a deal to get Parra to Pittsburgh for that competitive balance pick and a prospect or two...
  2. Who in the OF? Taylor and Coulter putting up pedestrian numbers that would be below average for the ML level. Obviously, Coulter isn't about to be a plus defensively. Brewers don't have many ML OF prospects right now honestly. They are filled with AAAA types. Or, AAA types that wind up playing for the ML team, poorly Brevard County is a notoriously pitcher-friendly location in the Florida State League, which is a very pitcher-friendly league. I'm not worried about Coulter's offense because of that. Victor Roache looked pedestrian in Brevard County (.773 OPS), but is raking in Biloxi (.900 OPS), and if the Brewers get Coulter out of Brevard County, I think the same sort of improvement will manifest itself. Michael Reed's looking like a relatively speedy OBP machine at all levels.
  3. Zimmer, Frazier, plus low-level pitching prospect? I would like to add Salazar to that but that seems to be a stretch. Two more outfielders? Getting crowded. I have no problem getting one of them, (I'd take Frazier), but maybe get 3B Yandy Diaz (an OBP machine) and 1B Nellie Rodriguez (a power bat) instead of Zimmer.
  4. I have to agree... either the Mets are playing "sour grapes" vis-a-via Gomez, or something else is up.
  5. But if it was GOMEZ' medicals and not Wheeler's that killed the trade, you end up getting absolutely nothing for Gomez for the foreseeable future. Yeah... but on the flip side, a shorter-term extension might be possible because Gomez will want to show he is healthy.
  6. Honestly, I've reached the conclusion that it's best for the Brewers if Jed Bradley is pitching for one of the 29 other MLB systems. I think there are other pitchers who need the innings he's taking.
  7. Not a bad option. There is more than one way to rebuild. Some are rougher on the major-league fans than others.
  8. Then play Sardinas there. You're talking about the guy who posted a .493 OPS in his brief stint in Milwaukee, and a .645 OPS in Colorado Springs. That's kinda... underwhelming. Granted he's 22, and probably was rushed to the majors, but Segura looks like a better option at short than Sardinas right now.
  9. Who replaces Lucroy? Right now, it's Maldonado (.523 OPS), Centeno (.589 OPS - in COLORADO SPRINGS), or Weisenburger (decent OBP at AA, but getting older) in-house, meaning the Brewers go on the free-agent market for... who?
  10. Clancy doesn't value defense. At all. Wait is Clancy the guy who wants Braun back at third? Yeah, I was thinking Braun at third was a better option. And yeah... I think people make too much of a big deal about defense, especially when the player involved has an impact bat.
  11. Wilmer Flores should not be playing SS. No one thinks he can play there...Mets did it out of complete need. He really needs to be at 3B or possibly 2B. The Brewers have Hernan Perez at third. The general consensus is that Segura is NOT someone people here want as the every day shortstop for the Brewers. That kinda makes Flores the Brewers SS by default. Again, I'll ask: How much is delaying the start of Orlando Arcia's MLB service worth?
  12. Or, keep him at short, have Hernan Perez at third, while platooning Segura and Gennett at second is an option. If the Brewers are creative enough... Orlando Arcia's service clock doesn't start until sometime in 2017.
  13. If Wheeler returns to form, this deal is OK. Flores, I see as very valuable. Segura and Gennett can platoon at second, while Hernan Perez can hold down third. Flores can play shortstop - and that means that Orlando Arcia stays in the minors for all of 2016. How much is not starting Orlando Arcia's MLB service-time clock until 2017 worth?
  14. Somebody has to play CF for Brewers. I'd prefer Ceceliani myself. He hits lefthanded and has raked in hitter friendly Las Vegas this year despite not doing a whole lot when called up earlier by Mets. For Gomez? I'd want a package of SS Gavin Cecchini (#5 prospect) and RHP Michael Fulmer (#7 prospect) for starters.
  15. Lind and Jed Bradley for Tom Cooney, Charlie Tilson, and Rob Kaminsky?
  16. Spitballing a little more... Nats get: SS Jean Segura 1B Adam Lind Brewers get: SS Ian Desmond SS Trea Turner RHP Joe Ross RHP Lucas Giolito C Pedro Severino 3B Drew Ward Explanation The Nats need upgrades at 1B (Zimmerman) and SS (Desmond). Lind and Segura give them that - for a while. In return for taking the remainder of Desmond's contract, the Brewers get five of Washington's top 12 prospects. Desmond is not a bad pick-up either. He adds a little power (11 HR this year), and with a contract expiring, it gives the Brewers options. Plus, the Brewers can either give Desmond a QO and get a pick, or if he takes the offer, that buys Orlando Arcia a year at Colorado Springs. The prospects, I think, are a nice haul. Turner could be an option at second base, Severino would become the best catching prospect in the system, and Ward looks like a good bat at third base. Ross and Giolito add pitching depth.
  17. Put Gomez in center, Cutch in right, and Polanco as 4th OF. Short version, the Pirates gain Gomez's plus D and they gain about 90 points in OPS over Polanco.
  18. Pirates get: OF Carlos Gomez LHP Jed Bradley Brewers get: 1B Josh Bell 2B Alen Hanson C Reese McGuire SS Cole Tucker PIT 2016 Round B Competitive Balance Pick
  19. Agreed. It's not like the Brewers and Cards are gonna face off in the playoffs this year or next. So, why not make a deal? If the Brewers can get Cooney, OF Charlie Tilson, and UT Breyvic Valera for Lind and say, Jed Bradley, I'd be happy.
  20. I'd want a little more than just Cooney. Say, Tilson and Valera?
  21. The word "meh" comes to mind when looking at Gausman. He did okay last year, but this year, he's only had 5 starts, and in 2013, he scuffled. I'd rather have 2B Jonathan Schoop and OF/3B Jimmy Paredas than Gausman.
  22. My thinking: Lind/K-Rod to the Cards for OF Stephen Piscotty, LHP Rod Kaminsky, UT Breyvic Valera, and OF Charlie Tilson
  23. How about making it Gavin Cecchini instead of Rivera?
  24. Nick Pivetta went to the Phillies.
  25. I'd have to agree. Nothing special there. For me, the keys would be Sisco, the catcher with a good bat, and Tanner Scott, the LHP whose fastball hits triple-digits. Stretch Scott into a starting pitcher... it would make the deal much better. Davies would be another young starter, and would give the Crew a decent option. Reyes has gone up to Delmarva at 18, and also looks very good. This is three of the top ten prospects in the Orioles system, and Scott looks undervalued to me.
