  1. If Weeks were hitting .312 instead of .212, and Hall was at 24 homers, not 12 homers, we'd not be hearing a lot of complaints. Face it, we needed our players to improve offensively to overcome a lack of defense, and they didn't (albeit much of this seems due to injuries).
  2. Gross is probably due for a shot in one of the corner OF slots. I think the Trot Nixon comparison is off - I think he's more like Burnitz. Buying out Jenkins and letting Mench walk will save about $10 million to upgrade the rotation, which looks like it will need it.
  3. A 2-4 homestand has to be close to rock-bottom, if not there already. And then there's three at Arizona that are must-wins... but we know how the Crew has done on the road...
  4. Guys, can the Brewers get any lower?
  5. So, teams will work around Braun to face the NL home run leader? That makes a lot of sense.
  6. It seems they are also more worried about limiting innings for Parra and Gallardo - who happen to be pitching the best out of the entire rotation for now. This is just an amazing mess.
  7. A division title is a division title.
  8. If Hester were gone for a season, Da Bears are gone for a season. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I admit, I love watching Hester return. You just know that he's gonna break one. It's just a matter of when.
  9. Methinks Weeks, Gwynn, and Gross are recovering nicely. They'll be back sooner than we know it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. When have the Brewers ever had good luck?
  11. When everyone is healthy and at 100%, that is true. But it's not the case this year. I think Capuano and Weeks have not recovered from their DL stints - or at leaste were rushed back too soon. Hall was hurt for two weeks, and hasn't quite rebounded from a slow start. Sheets is out. Oh, and it seems the Brewers are more interested in limiting the innings that Gallardo and Parra pitch than in getting the best possible rotation they can.
  12. I am regretfully coming to the conclusion that the answer is no division, no playoffs. Too many injuries, and their effects seem to have lingered. The Brewers will finish above .500, though. Progress, but it could have been a lot more.
  13. I think they should have given him a rehab assignment BEFORE bringing him back. Probably a mistake that cost us the division.
  14. Doug's gonna bet a backlash from me if he and Yost decide to shut down Gallardo and keep sending Vargas out there. Especially if Vargas has outings where he gets clubbed like a baby seal while Gallardo/Parra pitched well. (edit: fixed emoticon issue in quote --1992)
  15. It's the first "baby seal" outing in a long time - 2.2 IP, 7 ER. Vargas gets it.
  16. It wasn't the offense. It was Vargas getting himself clubbed like a baby seal out there!
  17. Actually, if Gross is playing full-time, I'd stick him in right. He's got a good eye and some pretty good pop. I've always thought he could be another Burnitz.
  18. I think they'll improve - if only because Rickie's wrist will be 100% (to go with his improvement in taking walks and getting on base) and we'll have a full season of Braun - and Kevin Mench will not be on the roster. That said, I'm worried. Cordero blew a save and then took the loss. We can't seem to get consistency from the starting rotation, and one of our relievers (Balfour) might as well be a baby seal for all the good it does the Brewers.
  19. I know we need to rest some guys, but this series has been ridiculous! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  20. Don't know. I think this was more about bolstering the pen. The trade means the Brewers have Cordero closing, and a choice of Tunbow/Linebrick/Wise/Villanueva/Shouse for the 7th and 8th. That makes Spurling the mop-up pitcher (and note that Spurling's actually done well - yesterday he went 2 IP with only one hit). That means the Crew won't have to keep Balfour around after this trip - they can send him back to AAA.
  21. Hart should have been given a double on that play - ending up at second. At least the Crew has the lead. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Linebrink's worst outing was at Coors Field. Most of his outings have been scoreless. It's a good move, especially if it means Balfour's headed back to Nashville. Thatcher is the guy I really hate losing in this deal. Shouse is getting old, and Thatcher was looking like a good replacement.
  23. First of all, I think the "save your closer on the road" rule is only common sense. You're most likely only going to get one run, so you need that good pitcher there. That said, the best way to leverage the extra-inning situations is to have a guy or two capable of doing what Chris Barnwell and Johnny Raburn have done in the Brewers farm system: Pitch an inning or two on occassion and provide a somewhat better bat than you would normally get from a pitcher. If I can have a guy who can do that on my bench, it's an extra edge. In essence, one of my bench guys is more like Toolshed Kieschnick.
  24. CAN WE PLEASE DEMOTE BALFOUR? Twice he goes in, and twice he's n ot much better than a baby seal. C'mon, Doug... find us some bullpen help!
