  1. While I'm not a huge Schroeder fan (probably average as an analyst, at best), it's not because of that. Now that the NFL is back, many of Fox's play-by-play guys are calling those games on Sunday leaving openings for other FSN regional guys to get the September "call-up" to do games on the mothership. Meanwhile, the primary Fox baseball color analysts are still on the job.
  2. I think Anderson has done a decent job in his first year. He calls the games pretty straight-up with no schtick, but he is capable of displaying some emotion when it is appropriate. In the interest of disclosure, I absolutely could not stand Sutton. I would have rather listened to some of those high school announcers from the mid-90's that they used to have on the Friday night games when Uecker was calling national games for NBC than listen to that buffoon slobber over David Eckstein.
  3. Let's hope this is the case. It would be absolutely insane for a game with that potential importance to not be on TV. As a previous post stated, I would assume that ESPN would be on-hand if the game had playoff implications, but I don't necessarily want to take that chance.
  4. Not at all. This is your day! I hope you enjoy it.
  5. I'm not sure that there's that much of a market for Cappy at this point other than someone else that's underperforming on their current team. Rather than do that, I'd rather see what Cappy could do in a Brewer uniform next year.
  6. It looks like the Cardinals series from 9/24-9/26 will be in HD. My cable company's info channel for HD broadcasts says it will be, and they are pretty reliable. Also, it looks like the page you are linking to only lists out HD games through the end of August for all teams. Having said all of that, it seems like the Brewers really get the short end of the stick in terms of HD broadcasts when compared to other teams. Maybe that will change next year given the team's brighter prospects for the future and the discovery of the ratings snafu earlier this year.
  7. I think he has about a 0% chance of getting in. He's been a fine player for a long time, but that does not make him HOF material. I agree that Tim Raines was a much better player, but I would say that even he has maybe a 50% chance of getting in.
  8. Now we're not even getting him for two days? This just gets better. Um, as opposed to getting here tomorrow? It's not THAT big of a deal even if his wife wasn't going to have a baby some time in the next 24 hours. My first thought about the trade was why a contender like the Padres would be dealing bullpen arms in exchange for minor leaguers. Maybe they know something about Linebrink that the Brewers don't or they really like the guys they got back much more than what the Brewers do. My second thought was the compensation picks the team would receive if Linebrink does walk as a free agent would help offset the prospects given up to get him in the first place. Overall then, I think this is a good (not necessarily great) move.
  9. Thanks for posting the address for the memorial fund, Mass. Coolbaugh must have loved the game of baseball since he stuck around as a player in the minor leagues into his mid-30s. A big reason why I love baseball is because of guys like him who persevered to pursue their dream. While expressing my sympathy for his family in a forum like this may help me try to sort this out, I feel better knowing that I can maybe make a more substantial gesture on his behalf by contributing to the fund to benefit his family. It's the least I can due. Rest in peace, Mike. May God grant his blessings to your family.
  10. Um...you do realize that Griffey can block a trade to Milwaukee, right? For whatever the rumors are worth, there is a very short list of teams he would consider playing for other than Cincy. Then there's the whole salary thing that rickh150 mentioned. I think the Brewers are about as likely to get Griffey as they are to put Hank Aaron back in uniform to see if he can hit a couple more homers.
  11. Of course he'll be in the HOF. 3000+ hits while playing much of his career as a middle infielder (and starting it as a catcher!) makes this accomplishment very remarkable. That said, I probably would have preferred that he retired a year or two ago when it was obvious that his skills had deteriorated significantly. To me, he already had earned his way into the HOF at least two years ago.
  12. Vargas would improve almost any rotation in MLB. Some teams do not want him due to cost or place in the success cycle, but plenty would. Agreed on that. But going back to the original post, it would not make sense for KC to trade a rookie (low cost for at least two more seasons) bullpen guy doing an okay job as your closer guy like Soria in exchange for a 5-6 inning starter like Vargas (likely to make at least $3 million next year). Gobble for Vargas is probably a little more balanced, but I'm not sure if either team makes that trade. Vargas is probably being put to his best and highest use right now as a number 4 or 5 starter on a team that clearly has at least 3 (and maybe 4, if you count Yo) starting pitchers that are better than him. Put him on a team like KC where he would probably be viewed as at least a number 3 starter, and disaster could ensue. He might be expected to pitch longer into games and get hit around pretty hard as a result. He simply is not that talented of a pitcher to get through an opposing lineup 4 times.
  13. I probably would have enjoyed the tv producer just pulling the string on a Mattel See 'N Say and holding it up to the microphone than listening to Sutton do any more play-by-play. That said, I think Anderson has done a good job in his first year. Time will tell if he picks up any habits that annoy the heck out of me.
  14. I agree with your assessment. That's why it's probably a longshot for Buehrle to come to Milwaukee. There does not seem to be a good match up for a trade unless the ChiSox really like Gwynn and either a Jackson or Parra-type. Is Gwynn top talent? Would the Sox really trade a stud pitcher for Gwynn and some bottom of the heap pitchers? They'd want Inman or Jeffress, a pitcher with some potential coming back. With the relative lack of success the organization has had developing pitchers, that worries me. It's one thing to give up Gwynn, Gross, Jackson, Capellan... it's another to give up Salome, Inman, Jeffress...
  15. It's frustrating that boneheads like Mariotti can just throw names like Corey Hart out there as being available in return for a 3 month rental player. I couldn't agree more with Joe about the type of player(s) the ChiSox should be seeking in a trade. Buehrle is very good and perhaps he could fetch a guy like Hart. However, it will be a guy like Hart in AA or maybe AAA, not one who has been dominating the NL for the past month. If a team wanted Corey, the time to get him was before he established himself. Now there is very, very little chance the Brewers deal him.
  16. TheCrew07, What others are trying to state, perhaps not explicitly enough, is that if the team rents Buehrle for the rest of the season and then loses him in free agency, they will get compensation picks in next June's amateur draft. This will go a ways towards replenishing what was given up assuming they are used wisely. Of course, what Doug M, Mark A, and others in the braintrust will have to evaluate is whether what they would need to give up in terms of prospects is worth what they will get back from the 1/2 season rental plus compensation draft picks. Serious question for those that want to aquire a rent a player for the stretch run. If that talent costs top minor league prospects, how exactly does the crew replace the talent they lost in the future? It's not like the team can afford to overspend in a free agency every year. Or is that because they're winning this year they need to win the world series and nothing else matters so replishening talent doesn't matter?
