  1. I'm not sure where everything falls, but for free agency, there's a transitional set of rules for this off-season with permanent rules being put in place next year. I'm sure that's confusing some of the interpretations we're seeing so far.
  2. Note that the explanation of the fourth option is what's current rather than whatever the change might be. The same thing applies to the explanation for outrights. All that's been officially released so far is "Modifications to Fourth Option and Outright Assignment rules."
  3. "Larry" on South Side Sox has posted an interesting series titled How the new Collective Bargaining Agreement affects the White Sox (and baseball). It's well researched and provides more depth than I've seen any single writer offer so far. Part I (Amateur Draft and international talent)Part II (Free agency)Part III) (Realignment, minimum salary, super-two, roster expansion for doubleheadersPart IV (Instant reply, All Start Game, drug testing, revenue sharing, luxury tax, maple bats, , minor league contracts, fourth option, outrights, weekend waivers, tobacco, and debt service) He also notes that we're currently getting our information from a CBA summary (PDF). That would mean that there's more information to come, and in the case of some details, we might be drawing incorrect conclusions.
  4. I hate it when companies change automatic payment systems. While the phone company managed to notify me by e-mail, the trash collection company didn't notify me at all. I found out that they weren't getting paid when I happened to call them about something else. Both required me to set things up from scratch, and both systems were complicated enough that I had to call for tech support during the setup. Things seem to be OK now, except for the fact that the trash company sends me a monthly payment notification even though they collect their money quarterly.
  5. (edits trying to get rid of the gray highlighting) Done. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The simplest way to dump highlighted text is to select it and hit the Tx button. However, that isn't always feasible because that button removes all formatting, including links, bold, italic, etc. The Tx button was fine for the message above because there was no other formatting. The fourth button from the left (with the ab and colored squares underneath) sets the background color. If you know that the post background is white, it's easy enough to restore white by selecting text and choosing white in the dropdown color picker. However, if a post is hidden or deleted, the message might end up displaying white highlighting on a gray background. I don't think our gray background is in the color picker. This is happening because of the increased popularity of Chrome and Safari. When you copy and paste text in those browsers, the background color of the source likes to come along for the ride. At some point, we should probably rethink the odd-even color scheme on this board. That would likely eliminate most of the issues with highlighted backgrounds.
  6. I was thinking it was players who are still active until I saw Sheets. I think it's clear that we're not going back to include guys like Yount, Molitor, Gantner, Jenkins, Vaughn, etc.
  7. Let's use the topic dedicated to the NL MVP and Braun to discuss his award. New discussion begins at this point: http://brewersfandemonium...-reply-325-#reply-788421 The other awards can be discussed in this thread.
  8. The rest of the team shouldn't decided who wins it. I heard an argument a couple of years ago that suggested that the rest of the team most certainly should be a factor, but not in terms of the way the team finished in the standings. Rather, this person felt that the team's ability to replace the "valuable" player should be considered. Look at the 1978 Milwaukee Brewers. In the outfield, the team had Hisle, Thomas, Lezcano, and Oglivie. In the infield, they had Cooper, Molitor, Yount, Bando, and Money. Both the infield and outfield had a starting-caliber player available as a replacement. That's a lot different than replacing a starter with a Mark Kotsay. You could argue that losing a starter could adversely affect the DH position, but with the 1978 team, you'd really have to lose two players to see a significant negative effect at that spot.
  9. The worst part about all of this is that the owner of another board has confirmed that Yuku is only addressing these overcharges for communities that submit complaints. It now appears that this conclusion was drawn erroneously. It's likely that ads were turned off system-wide back in October when things first broke down. However, there's no word if they've been turned off across the system due to this weekend's issues. This whole thing would have been made a lot clearer had there been public announcements regarding this issue. That would have prevented anyone from making erroneous assumptions.
  10. We already have a National League MVP 2011 topic with a lot of discussion. My suggestion would be to announce it here and continue the discussion that's already going on in that thread. Let's use this topic to discuss the rest of the awards.
  11. We often have separate topics for these awards, but since there hasn't been a lot of discussion, let's use the 2011 MLB Awards topic since it already has responses. We already have a National League MVP 2011 topic with a lot of discussion. We may want to use that thread when the award is announced.
  12. Since Saturday, we've noticed that Yuku has been charging us about 300% of what we were being charged previously. Staff has again turned off ads on both Brewerfan and LambeauLeap, so right now, we're not being charged at all. At first, the staff member who handled my support ticket suggested that the new charges were correct, then she backtracked, turned of the ads, and referred the issue to a technician. Stay tuned. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The worst part about all of this is that the owner of another board has confirmed that Yuku is only addressing these overcharges for communities that submit complaints. Over a two day period in October, the system ate up hundreds of thousands of prepaid page views (almost a million here on Brewerfan and almost 300,000 on LambeauLeap). Communities that didn't hit zero like we did could have easily missed the fact that they were overcharged back then — and they're very likely to miss the fact that they might be getting overcharged now. Along with this, there's been no public announcement at all regarding these issues. People who complained back in October were notified individually via PM when Saturday's so-called "fix" was implemented. That certainly doesn't foster trust. For the time being, I'm going to turn off the ability to contribute both here and at LambeauLeap. I don't think we need to muddle things any worse than they currently are. As things stand, Brewerfan should be good for a few weeks and LambeauLeap should be set for quite a while.
  13. Yuku fixed this issue today. This PM came into my inbox about a half an hour ago. Actually, it's been two days short of a month since the problem arose. While I'm glad that we weren't charged during this time, I sure wouldn't want to see prices increase because Yuku isn't cutting it financially. Although the PM says "community" instead of "communities," the available prepaid page views on both Brewerfan and LambeauLeap look fine.
  14. I've merged this into the existing topic in the Minor League forum. Discussion starts at this point: http://brewersfandemonium...gaard--adde#reply-788058
  15. Rumors around the Internet say that the price of the Blackberry Playbook will be cut to $198 by Thanksgiving. Stay tuned.
  16. Constantly fighting with the cap is a problem with the NFL model. Teams have to rid themselves of useful players every year. Complicating things is the fact that multi-year baseball contracts are guaranteed. That really limits who can be cut. Sharing TV revenue equally, with teams keeping all or most revenue generated by their stadiums would satisfy me.
  17. Up until about six or seven years ago, three years was pretty standard for a managerial contract. Now it seems that we usually see two years and an option.
  18. Now that it's official, let's use this thread to continue discussion and wrap up any loose ends that may be left in this topic. Dale Sveum officially the new Cubs manager
  19. Selig will not look good through this. Moving the Brewers to the NL and then someone else out smacks of favoritism, which is a bad thing for the Commish. Well, the Brewers weren't offered any financial incentive to move, and as was pointed out above, the Royals were given first crack. The situation now is a whole lot different than 1998. Back then, interleague play was in its infancy: one year old, to be exact. It would have been a huge gamble to implement it on a daily basis. Going with the uneven leagues and uneven divisions, while not desirable, was less of a gamble. Now that MLB has had over a decade to fiddle around with interleague play and there's a team willing to move, the time seems to be right to make the change. Along with putting five teams in every division, the scheduling structure looks good. The fact that all teams in a division play the same opponents for the same number of games is huge. I don't think the loss of home and home against "natural" rivals is a big enough loss not to be offset by the other improvements. A lot of teams didn't have a "natural" rival anyway. And some teams had more than one. Cleveland vs. both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh comes to mind as the obvious example. Others would be the Angels vs. the Dodgers and Padres along with the White Sox vs. the Cubs, Brewers, and Cardinals.
  20. I don't think we'll hear any comments until the actual announcement. A GM won't want to tip his hand.
  21. Compensation is automatic if free agents sign before the date for offering arby. I'm not sure of the exact date, but it's in early December. The last CBA made it earlier than it used to be.
  22. A problem that's existed since 1994 is that the Texas Rangers have played in a division where all of the other teams are two time zones away. Moving the Astros would help them out a bit.
  23. If everything is up to snuff, you'd just turn off the circuit breaker and hook up positive to positive, neutral to neutral, and ground to ground. In a 100 year old house, however, you might find that the wiring might not be up to snuff. I'd start by checking the requirements in the directions that come with the new fixtures.
  24. I believe that Al's using the term metaphorically. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. This should be an adequate translation of the Venezuelan news article:
