  1. Borrowing pitchleague's terminology, the NHL should have rolled its collective eyes and moved on. That's what MLB did a few years ago when Pat Burrell made comments similar to this topic.
  2. Does this mean that there will be no vent thread during the season? Any decision would be up to b19, but I can tell you that mods have discussed this. This is what we've been telling new members for the past several months:
  3. Losing the vent thread is more about post quality than anything else. Some of the lousiest post quality on this board tends to land in the vent thread. I think you make a reasonable point by mentioning that the locked thread contains a message that was mostly a "set of thoughts." It would have been a fit elsewhere, though, and if that member wants to make that message fit into another thread, he's welcome to. Nobody among the mods or staff is against the idea of expressing negative opinions. The issue involved is that like the vents: post quality tends to go downhill as negativity goes up. Discussing the negative is certainly as important, if not more important, than discussing the positive. However, members can certainly address the negative without making a foray into obnoxiousness.
  4. The Mac can read both Mac and pee cee disk formats, so reformatting shouldn't be required. However, Mac formatting is more efficient. How to Reformat iPod iPod Restore and Format 101
  5. Please explain to me how this works. If I understand correctly, if Tex signs with the Yankees the Brewers get bumped from the Yankees first round pick and instead get their second round pick...correct? If this is true..why? How does Anaheim have rights over the Brewers? You would think the team with the worst record would get the higher pick. Mark T. is ranked as the "better" or "more valuable" player. See these threads: Elias Rankings: CC, Sheets Type A, Cameron, Gagne, Shouse, Torres Type B Elias Rankings, maybe
  6. I had originally misread your question. I thought you were looking to see only the new posts within a thread. You're looking to view only the topics that contain new posts. I did some poking around, and when we were on ezBoard, we had exactly the feature you're describing. We were able to check a box to enable a "View Only New Topics" preference. Back around the time we migrated, Yuku told members that its intent was to eventually provide all ezBoard features (or replacements for those features). I don't know if that's still Yuku's intent or not. We used to know a lot about what was going on. However, since KickApps purchased Yuku in February, the flow of information has dwindled down to a trickle. As an option, you might try clicking on the Account link in the Yuku navigation bar, clicking on the Preferences link in the Settings box at the bottom left, and setting your Topics Per Page and/or Replies Per Page dropdowns to 10. To kick in those settings, you'll have to check the box that says, "Use My Settings," and hit the Submit button at the bottom of the page. I say "You might try" because I think this feature is still available without purchasing Yuku Supporter. The link says that "Non-Supporters are limited to 20 topics per page and 20 replies per page." I take that to mean that you can still choose 10. However, as we're charged by in-thread page views, note that members viewing topics with 10 replies per page cost Brewerfan the same as members viewing topics with 20 replies per page. If a member purchases Supporter, we're not charged anything for those page views (as long as the member is logged in). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The number of topics per forum page viewed by members doesn't affect cost. We're not charged for those page views--whether members are Supporters or not. If you'd like to poke around in your ezBoard Control Center, a login page is provided. Logging in will direct you to your Control Center. The feature you'd like to see offered by Yuku is on the Account Preferences page.
  7. Crew2323 is right. You won't see new posts only, but you'll be jumped to the first new post in a thread by clicking on the baseball icons next to thread titles on forum pages.
  8. Make sure that this is what you have stored in your Applications Folder. When you intend to run Firefox, you should be clicking on an icon like this: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/firefoxicon.png If you have this in your application folder, you're clicking on the wrong thing: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/firefoxdmgicon.png Note that the .dmg file is a disk image. The operating system thinks the file is a disk. The .dmg contains a copy of Firefox, and that copy of Firefox must be copied to your hard drive. It's actually more accurate to say that you're copying the program rather than "installing" it, however, the technical term for this procedure is "drag install." As jordanmuehl says, once it's properly installed, you can drag any applications into your dock for easy access. You can also make an application stay in your dock permanently by doing your MacBook's version of right-clicking on it. You'll see a Keep In Dock option in the context menu. (On MacBooks released in October, 2008, the default way to "right-click" is to press anywhere on the trackpad with two fingers.)
  9. It could be that a 6/110 offer is a segue into discussion of something like 5/110.
  10. Have you properly installed Firefox (by dragging the icon from the disk image to the Applications folder or somewhere else on your hard drive)? Installing Firefox (OS X)
  11. Not only does that page not have any rankings, it offers no clue as to who did the supposed study. It has a quote, and one might surmise that one of the two organizations that the guy's affiliated with might have something to do with this, but then again, maybe not. On another note, when going to a Milwaukee area restaurant last night, I parked in a handicapped spot for the benefit of my passenger. As we were exiting the car, a woman called out to someone in a truck asking if he'd be in soon. He yelled back, "I'm watching the disabled people!" I have to think of something to do if this ever happens again. I haven't done a cartwheel in years, but I think I could remaster the skill. At least I'd be ready to provide some entertainment the next time someone wants to "watch the disabled people."
  12. The way I read is tha 75% of the team is owned by a particular ownrrship subset, of which Mark A. is only one of them. Is Mark A. a 51% majority owner or a "I own more of the Brewers than anyone else " majority owner? I seem to recall reading that Attanasio owns 47% of the team, but that he's the one with control. That's relying totally on fuzzy memory, so take that for what it's worth. It strikes me how little we really know about the ownership group... We also didn't know a whole lot about the last ownership group, either. This group doesn't even have a board of directors to answer to. I believe Mark has referred to a "board of advisers."
  13. Spring training and training camp would be synonyms. Invitations generally go to players with a chance to make the squad and players that Major League personnel would like to observe. There's no roster requirement to receive an invitation. There are times that a player who doesn't have a contract at all is invited. Sometimes, an invitation to spring training is written into a player's contract as an enticement to sign. I don't know if all 40-man roster players are automatically invited or not.
  14. Our usability director sucks at using Yuku. Triplicate posts are now deleted. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. The best reason I can think of for voting for Plesac is to give him the ability to tell his grandchildren that he got some votes. Regarding Orosco, is oldness a requirement to remember that he was a Brewer from 1992-94?
  16. Which passwords are secure and which aren't? Is there a preferred type of password we should be using?
  17. Sounds like Swindle could be a real steal. The thread's tags (transaction, swindle) would seem to indicate that.
  18. Don't tell a sales person what your price range is. Tell him or her that it's flexible. Additionally, don't give a huge indication as to what you're looking for. Act like you're willing to give anything due consideration, even if you're not.
  19. Does this happen repeatedly, or is it a once in a blue moon type of thing? What's your browser and operating system?
  20. Does this happen repeatedly, or is it a once in a blue moon type of thing? What's your browser and operating system?
  21. I just looked at the announcement again; I'm surprised a senior price isn't mentioned. I wonder if there is one and it isn't mentioned, if one was considered but rejected, or if they didn't think of offering one.
  22. Retail stores who leave their staff hanging like that bug me. Where was ANYBODY? In other words, you ran into a lesser version of the mess that Sears Optical has totally built into their system (replies 1651, 1678). Employees aren't allowed to do anything except take orders, deliver, and do limited repairs. Managers can do more, but often need to fight with a division manager to advocate for a customer. If the manager and division manager are on the same page, they have to fight with the management at the lab. The answer to the issue would seem to be so clear. If the lab didn't send a pair of glasses that were right, the peon employee should be able to say, "OK, we'll send them back and give you a call when they're ready." That doesn't cover the weeks someone will be without glasses when that person really needs them, but at least it's a start. Anyway, to update, my glasses have arrived, but I won't be able to get to Sears Optical when they're open until Friday (I'll be nowhere near that city.) They'd mail the glasses to me or send them to another Sears Optical, but this situation obviously needs to be dealt with in person with employees who've been involved with the mess. I think I did ask the pertinent questions over the phone, though: Do the lenses stay in the frames when you clean them? Are the edges of the lenses polished? Do the screws match the frames, or are the frames hacked together? Hopefully, that avoids another situation where they pull the glasses out of the envelope and I have to refuse delivery--again. I didn't ask if the prescription was right. It's routine for them to check that, but I suppose I should call just to be sure. Toby, just a hint here. If a car with a busted window in the door has to be driven for any length of time before it's repaired, wide shrink wrap (available in a large roll at Menards for under $10) does wonders. You can keep weather out very effectively without using any tape--or at least without having tape touch the vehicle. You won't be able to open the door, but that's secondary. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. My only concern would relate to the last On Deck event that was scheduled in January: it was snowed out. I remember Ned talking on the radio about fans who "battled" to try to be there.
  24. We see examples of deadlines being meaningless all the time. A common example is the "I'm not going to talk contract during the season" situation, with the contract ending up being signed about May 1st. I wouldn't read too much into this so-called "deadline," either.
  25. My recommendation would be the Loge Infield. I've found that the closer you can get to home plate, the less likely you are to have your view blocked by fans who need to get up for food or potty stops during a Brewer at bat with the bases loaded and two out. I'm not saying the fans are better in the Loge Infield. Closer to home plate, you're not as likely to be blocked by inconsiderate fans in other sections; fans in your own section will be the only issue. If you choose the outfield, I prefer the view in right field vs. left field. The seats seem to be angled more appropriately.
