  1. .360 is probably above average (sadly), but it's below the .375 or so that I'd like to see at leadoff. Still, Rickie can carry a decent SLG percentage and decent stolen base percentage. If he has a .360 OBP, SLG and stolen bases should come along with it as part of the package.
  2. if so, this is exactly the sort of option Kendall got -- His option got picked up once he made something like his 130th start I believe the industry frequently calls it a "vesting option." Kendall's option vested after 110 starts. His 2009 pay increased with 120 and 130 starts. There were also performance bonuses increasing his 2008 pay based on both games and starts.
  3. 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM CST. There's a Hank Aaron program directly following it (12:30 and 3:30 AM).
  4. G-Rob is a total +%#!!!+%* When you use colorful language, please preview your post to make sure it's permissible. Hotel information, both for the Brewers and for visiting teams, should be in the Media Guide.
  5. 88.9 FM, Radio Milwaukee! I won't "do" commercial music radio. That stopped years ago. Having said that, my heart goes out to any station below 92 on the FM dial. I like my XM, but, unfortunately, some of the channels still remind me of the commercial stuff. I like tuning in the Blues channel, though. Now that I've pontificated, I will say that "Drivin' All Night" by the Tubes fits the mood of the thread title. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif "White Punks on Dope" and "Don't Touch Me There" are more entertaining, though.
  6. Its really odd but it really seems like he eats right after we do. I believe that might be instinct. Dogs think people are also dogs. If they're trained right, you, as a person, should be the "head dog." The subordinate dog isn't supposed to eat until the "head dog" does.
  7. I can't directly help you with this. All I can say is that my late dog preferred to eat on carpeting, which is what he was used to at my house. When he visited my parents, he'd take food out of his dish, haul it out to another room, and drop it onto the rug before eating it. He was 12 years old before we ever saw him do this. All we could do was 'fence off' the kitchen when he was fed. That's what I'd suggest.
  8. Your XP disk should give you the opportunity to install Windows without a reformat or to fully wipe out the hard drive before installing. I really prefer including the reformatting. Just make sure you have everything you need handy. That includes backing up your bookmarks from your web browsers. (Normally, you just export them to an HTML file and reimport them later.) If your computer is still usable and uninfected, you can also go in and download new drivers, the latest Firefox, the latest versions of your malware protection and firewall, etc. You might also want to download Windows XP Service Pack 3 ahead of time. All this stuff can be burned to CD. Scan any burned CDs for malware--just in case. After reformatting, I'd install Windows XP Service Pack 3, your malware protection, and Firefox before letting your computer touch the internet. A caveat might be that your malware software might want to update. If that's the case, let it access the 'net to do that. Updates will be minimal, however, if you download the latest software before reformatting. After getting the malware stuff up and running, do any updates Windows wants to do. At that point, you can install the rest of your applications and copy over your documents. You might be installing your apps over the next few days or weeks. That's fine. Install them as you need them.
  9. As I was leaving the store just now, I saw a guy walking in from his car wearing short sleeves. It's eleven below zero.
  10. For some reason they had Braun personalize everything. Not sure why and I didn't complain since I have no intention of selling my Braun ball. It makes the autographed item less attractive for resale.
  11. Stolen Bases: Tommy Harper (73) Caught Stealing: Tommy Harper (18) Source: Milwaukee Brewers Batting Leaders (Baseball-Reference.com). There's nothing in the individual pitching records. I'll look around for a source for collective team single season records. It might be right on Baseball-Reference.com, and I'm missing it.
  12. I'd say the ability to get on is way more important than getting a hit for a pinch hitter. In general, yes. I think logan3825 is referring to the very narrow circumstances where a walk would have negative value. This would almost always be in situation where only one run is needed in the bottom of the final inning.
  13. Andy Mazur is brutal! Used to hear him when he would fill in for Pat Hughes on Cubs games Of course, when he'd sub for Ron Santo, he provided a huge upgrade. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. I'd like the Brewers to consider Ryan Radke. He impressed me when he worked with Daron Sutton on some of the spring webcasts. At the time, he was the Tucson Sidewinders broadcaster. (He probably still is.)
  15. I made the mistake of getting a 17" laptop. Do not do this also. You definitely don't want to be carting six and a half pounds around campus if you can help it. There's a reason why the industry refers to 17" models as "desktop replacements." 15" and five and a half pounds looks like it'll work well for me. It doesn't travel daily, and when it does, it'll usually be used in people's homes or in hotel rooms. Here are the sizes and weights for the current Mac models. Click the + for specs: [+] I had class with one guy who had a Mac, and it was a major pain in the rear to do group work with him. I guess some have mentioned Open Office, I guess you could try that. Keep in mind that compatibility issues exist even with the same operating system. My version of Microsoft Office, for instance, is from 2001; I really have to address that, either with a newer Microsoft Office or with Open Office. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif By the way, it hasn't been mentioned, but Open Office is also available for Windows. I know heat issues were mentioned in one of these threads. You can buy a fan for the computer to sit on. It is powered by an USB port. They seem to work, and probably can extend the computer's life. I considered going that route, but I decided that I didn't want to cart the fan thing around. The fans were thicker than the computer itself. That's why I finally decided on a piece of plexiglass. What's too bad is that a fan's biggest benefit will occur when you're out and about. That's when you're most likely to place the computer on your lap. It's also when you're least likely have the fan with you. I really haven't had virus issues either, but they can happen in what you think is legitimate websites. I found out the hard way at work once. I was looking up how to repair a machine and then I had dancing girls everywhere. The IT guy said the legit website was probably taken over by pirates. Shoot, even Yuku has had issues where it's been known to install viruses and redirect people to porn sites. With Brewerfan being ad-free, it shouldn't be a problem here. People should take care when viewing profiles, though. (Buying Yuku Supporter would eliminate virus and redirect concerns.) Back to the point of this thread, it should be noted that installing Windows on a Mac will open the Mac up to Windows malware and will require protection within Windows. I think if I were to install Windows on one of my Macs, I'd keep Windows from accessing the internet at all unless I was doing an OS update. You'd certainly still need all your Windows protection applications, however, as you'd still be opening files received from others.
  16. 32 bit Windows is limited to 3.5 GB of RAM I believe you can't go any higher than that because the operating system doesn't know what to do with it. I guess it can vary a from machine to machine. I've heard about the Vista 32 bit limit being as low as 3.1 GB; 3.5 his the highest I've heard. Both of endaround's options have 64 bit Windows, so he'll be free of that limit.
  17. I also think that I heard that grinding up ice in the garbage disposal works, but I have no idea why that'd be any better than running water. It might be the abrasive action of the ice. My plumber once recommended stuffing the disposal with ice, filling the sink halfway with hot water, then running it. I would think baking soda might be worth a try. At any rate, it's cheap. I've also heard that coffee grounds were good for disposals. I wouldn't go out of my way to get them, but if they're around, that's where I always send them.
  18. I've added it to this thread: Transaction Rumors / Proposals FAQ ... plus site FAQ additions: trade, waiver, free agency rules (reply #13). That thread is stickied at the top of the Transactions Forum. There's also a link to it in the Resource FAQ, stickied at the top of this forum.
  19. Thanks to Sam, regarding the number of free agents teams are allowed to sign... From the CBA, page 74:
  20. Counsell, Brewers Agree To Deal By Ben Jones [January 23 at 12:36pm CST] Do you have a link to this? It's not that we suspect you of forgery. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif A link covers our butts as far as properly citing reprinted material.
  21. One thing endaround would gain with the separate graphics card is the ability to turn down the amount of system RAM dedicated to graphics to the absolute minimum. Or, I should say, hopefully he does. It'd be good to ask if that setting is adjustable.
  22. Knowing that I was keeping my desktop PC for games (CS) and other stuff, I went with one of the new 13.3" Macbooks. One of the reasons I went with the 15" MacBook Pro was the added features. I think it'd be great if Apple came up with a 13" MacBook Pro. That would get the Pro features into a more portable gizmo for those who'd really like small. The magnetic power adapter can get kind of annoying because it is so easy to pull out, but to that end I am sure I would have pulled a different laptop off of my desk by now (I am kind of clumsy). I have a friend who's actually done that. He was lucky that the damage was only $133. The other angle is that we've had posts here from members who've worn out the connector on the computer end and have had to decide between an expensive repair or a new machine. I've gotten my cord caught in the recliner chair a few times, so I've seen the value of magsafe first hand.
  23. I'd support a Rookie of the Year exhibit elsewhere in the ballpark.
  24. I have Microsoft Office on Vista and Adobe CS4 on the Mac. If you need Office, I'd recommend the Mac version unless you really need Access. Access is a Windows-only application. The obvious advantage would be that using the Mac version would keep you from needing to switch to Windows. The less obvious reason for using the Mac version is that for some odd reason, Microsoft has a history of producing better Mac software than Windows software. That's weird; the only logical explanation that I can think of is that their Mac and Windows products have separate development teams. It's just so much more user friendly the mouse gestures make me do everything faster. I can't stand track pads on a PC, but the one on my macbook is super convenient. For sure. The whole trackpad is a button. It should be noted, though, that pressing on the bottom half of the trackpad is easier. You can program one of the bottom corners of the trackpad to right-click. I find that totally unnecessary because tapping with two fingers already causes a right-click. If you place your cursor over a window, moving two fingers on the trackpad will cause the window to scroll. You can scroll vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Also, if you hold down the control key and scroll with two fingers, the entire desktop, including the windows, will zoom. Scroll up to increase the size; scroll down do decrease size back to normal. There's also a two-finger "pinch." Within certain applications, you can pinch out to zoom the contents of the window and pinch in to bring it back to normal size. A three-finger swipe will navigate you through iPhoto. A vertical four-finger swipe will activate Exposé. Swipe up to clear your desktop; swipe down to display all windows. A four-finger horizontal swipe brings up a handy application switcher. There are some one-finger options that aren't turned on by default. I think these generally correspond to what's available on Windows computers: tap to click, tap and drag, and drag lock. I haven't played with those, but I think I'll try them. Dragging is a bit of a pain under the default settings. You need to hold down the button and drag. There are times that you need two fingers. What's really cool is that if you want to see how the trackpad options operate, all you have to do is visit the Trackpad control panel in System Preferences. Hover over the preference listed in the control panel, and it'll show a movie demonstrating what the preference does. If you go with a mac, I'd recommend Apple Care. You have one year from the date of purchase to activate Apple Care. Your repairs are covered for the first year, but tech support only lasts for the first three months. If you don't need tech support between months three and twelve, you can delay for the full year. If you need tech support during that time, buy Apple Care at that point. Contrary to the snarky commercials, Vista isn't that bad. We've certainly had a lot of bad Vista reports here at Brewerfan. However, I think a lot of Vista's bad rap came because Microsoft was selling it to customers whose computers weren't equipped to handle it. Also, I don't think computer manufacturers initially understood that new machines needed 3 GB of RAM for it to run properly. While these issues seem to have been addressed with time, in the beginning, they certainly opened up an unanticipated marketing opportunity for Apple.
