  2. Yes, and the Cubs and the Cardinals also "control their own destiny" http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/eek.gif ...all 3 are tied in the loss column (and besides that, the Cards have 3 games against the Brewers and 4 against the Cubs).
  3. And a couple of those guys won in the minors with many of the same players that make up the Brewers today (as well as some who will be Brewers in the future), right?
  4. Again you avoided the point. They are both bad. Bad enough to cost you games. I'd say it's closer than you think as to their defensive ability. But why sub one and not the other especially considering: Braun OPS=1.029 Weeks OPS=.744 I don't have a problem with Ned removing Braun in the 9th inning with a lead for defensive purposes. But if there is a chance that Braun may come to bat again and you take him out in the 8th why not take Weeks out instead? It's an indefensible move IMO and it smacks of Ned's old tendencies to stick with more established guys over rookies no matter what the data says. I don't really have a problem with subbing for Braun in late innings, even if he might have one more at bat coming. But I do wonder if it might make more sense to put Counsel at 2b. You do not lose as much offensively with this substitution and 2b has more plays to make than 3rd. OTOH Weeks has over double the chances of Braun in about the same number of innings yet Braun has double the errors. OTOOH, it seems like a lot of misplays by Weeks have not been scored as errors.
  5. Before you guys get too worried about whether these guys are suffering in poverty, you might want to check on what they got as a signing bonus when they were drafted.
  6. The article says he had a prescription...Ankiel's prescriptions were signed by Florida physician William Gogan The legal issues seem to be about the Doctor and pharmacies not Ankiel...seems like much ado about not much. If he used HGH, when it was not banned, so what. Ankiel, 28, has not been accused by authorities of wrongdoing...Prosecutors have said clinics similar to as THARC paid physicians to sign prescriptions for clients they never saw - a violation of New York and Florida law - which were then filled at Signature and other pharmacies and shipped to clients.
  7. Sure the record would not be all that much better, but 2 or 3 wins just might be the difference between finishing 1st or 2nd. Of course, if they win he will stay...and I hope it is what happens. However, I do hope that if they don't win, they are also sub-.500 and maybe in 3rd place, so that he will be most likely gone.
  8. That's funny, I feel exactly the same way about the guy...http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
  9. This quote from Mark A about Yost in an article on jsonine.com, implies to me that Yost lacks confidence in his own decision making. This is not a good trait for a manager to have in a pennant race. "He's trying to make the players happy, he's trying to make the fans happy, he's trying to make the general manager happy, and he's worried about making me happy," Attanasio said. "And with all of that, he's trying to make the right decision. I am encouraging him to do what he thinks is right. We want him to manage the game."
  10. How is that Aquino was the only guy ready? Why is a minor leager warming up in the 8th with the game on the line? Option 1 would have been to have Wise warmed up, option 2 would have been to leave Shouse in, option 3 would have been to have Cordero come in for 4 outs. In addition, I think he went too long with a Turnbow that did not have it yesterday. I think Derrik has been reliable and don't understand the hating of him that some fans engage in, but yesterday he clearly was having trouble and I thought he needed to come out one batter sooner. In addition, even things that work out show that Yost still does not seem put winning the game first. He left an out of gas Sheets in...that could have blown up if he had walked the pitcher. The fact that it worked out does not mean it was the decision most likely to lead to a win. It was nice for Ben to get a shot at a win and all, but now is not the time for such things to have any influence on managerial decisions. Maybe I am wrong and that was not the reasoning, maybe it was a lack of confidence in the bullpen (other than Aquino, apparentlyhttp://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/eyes.gif). The Sheets and Turnbow decisions I disagreed with, but can accept someone having a different opinion. The Aquino and the recent Mench decisions are just indefensible, imo.
  11. I guess Yost, Melvin, Mark A, and maybe some of the players would be happier if the team were just consistently mediocre and therefore no one would expect better from them. Maybe they'd like it better if no one would show up...if so they'll likely finally get what they want by the final week, if the Brewers have their usual road trip performances this month. How about if these dopes would say something like I don't blame the fans for booing. I'm disappointed with the way this team has performed recently too. I can understand that they are not going to make critical comments about Yost's choices in public. But it is disgusting to here this crap about how we should be happy that the games even mean anything at this point in the season. As for the latest and perhaps greatest boneheaded move, I'm pretty sure the fans were booing Yost's decision to put the game in the hands of a AAA pitcher in advance, not second guessing after the fact. When you are in a pennnat race, the purpose of calling up minor leagers is to do things like: give the real bullpen a break when the game is not on the line, allow a pinch running move here and there, and allow you to have a spare emergency catcher so that you can pinch hit or put in a defensive sub late. If Yost, et. al. don't like the fans, they should quit their jobs.
  12. Yeah, but it pisses me off that Yost let them rot there instead of using them to, I don't know, maybe keep the score close, even if the team is behind.
  13. Seems to me it also doesn't happen if the umpire just ignores Prince as Prince is walking away, instead of following him. Or if he wanted to throw him out just do it and walk away from Prince, rather than toward him. There was no need for the umpire to follow and goad Prince into repeating himself. Not saying Prince does not deserve punishment (though 3 games seems excessive), but the umpire deserves some too, imo.
  14. Did Prince "go after" an umpire? Pretty sure all he did was argue/complain/yell about a call and ejection. The umpire followed Prince, instead of just ignoring him. How about some punishment for the unpire? Why it is considered acceptable for umpires engage in arguements with players, coaches, and managers?
  15. Why not just by tickets on the first base side, if you want to be in the shade?
