  1. Any word on a replacement? [hint] you [/hint]

  3. Shane Nance is back! Ah, to be left-handed.
  4. Good to see Rickie joining the fun.
  5. H0FFY, I thought I was on top of this thread before you posted. I have to assume a chook is an x-factor you inserted/invented/learned down under. Good on you, mate. Also want to point out that while Pujols, every year, has by any standard definition crushed, raked, been a great hitter, or what-have-you, he has not performed identically every year. His statistics fluctuate like anyone elses. Thus, while it's easy to say that he'll be good, it's only so easy because his margin of error is so huge: he would have to drop off substantially and "unpredictably" just to be not-great. And a crazy insane drop off would be required before anyone started calling him, say, Albert Poo Holes, whereas normal fluctuations might be more noticeable in a player who barely has his head above water, so to speak. There are many more players (many) who tread this line than there are Albert Pujolses (one).
  6. It definitely did hit the pole, but not by much.
  7. Kane Davis did seem an odd choice. Maybe Ned figured that if he put him in quickly enough, it would be Davis that was injured instead of Sheets.
  8. Bill, whatever happened apparently happened on that pitch behind Chipper. He just came up grimacing and holding his right arm. Ned and trainers ran out to the mound and tried to stretch him out for a minute, then did what looked like a stress test on his elbow, though it could have been the rotational strength of his shoulder. The look of pain and disappointment on Ben's face was palpable.
  9. Sheets looks hurt, they're stretching him out and performing some stress tests on his elbow.
  10. Betemit just got seriously owned.
  11. EDR, I'm with you. Thrilled that I get to see Sheets.
  12. So it's good news on Dennis, then? That post by Dennisfrancis the day after the injury had me pretty worried; it's good to see that it wasn't even bad enough to shut him down.
  13. Hate to split hairs (but not really), but if it is only a 1% chance, then 350,000 dollars is way too much for that ticket. If it's a 20-25% chance, though, I can get behind that.
  14. Didn't Rickie show up at Southern around the same size?
  15. I was pretty happy to get an arm like Rogers' in the system last year, but the player I (and many others on the board) wanted was Chris Nelson. This year that player is Maybin. The pick has got to be Braun.
  16. Nice little game for C. Crabbe tonight what with the base hit, the three walks, and the sac fly. And an 11:5 BB:K ratio so far... tasty.
  17. That sounds like the kind of tedious task that I'd enjoy doing if I was getting paid for it. I made the suggestions in an earlier thread, but if we were all willing to get together, we could all assume just a small part of the number crunching and assemble a decently impressive study complete with informed and reasonable conclusions, I think. Is there any interest in this at all? jwaltz, what do you think? Are you up for some data scouring?
  18. I'm not in a position to command anyone, so when I say "read posts" it shouldn't be taken as anything other than a suggestion. Brevity is the soul of saving time.
  19. read posts. p082.ezboard.com/fbrewers...61&stop=65
  20. "So while they may have impressive numbers in college, it is in part due to watered down competition (thus perhaps the college level of competition isn't that far superior to the high school level of competition)." Ehh, I think you may want to reconsider that, for although I also have no statistics to back you, me, or anything else up, I am confident that you are wrong. And basically here's my reasoning: how many HS players are there? And how many D1 players are there? Even when you add in the college age HS draftees, there's no way that the ratio is anything but extreme. Most of the best HS players may go pro, but the rest of the best, or the best of the rest, go to college or JC, where they don't stop developing. Think Angel Salome could hit .800 anywhere but HS? Unless you're thinking church softball, or some other nefarious semantic device, he can't. As far as the HS vs. College debate goes, I've come to the conclusion that it should probably be used only as a tie-breaker in the individual analysis of prospects. That is, each prospect should be evaluated individually, as I very much doubt that not going to college makes a man more injury prone, or makes it nigh impossible to become a relief pitcher. There's something in the way they're treated, something in the way they treat themselves that explains it. My guess is that younger kids hide injuries slightly more frequently, but anybody else's guess is just as good.
  21. So have we cornered the market on 2nd basemen then? Are we going to bring up a new one every year for 6 years in a row?
  22. Is that schedule accurate, Mass? It doesn't match up with yours.
  23. Hey Mass, you mentioned that you have access to scheduling info for Arizona games. I live in Tucson. Can you help me out? I'd like to go see Rogers pitch tomorrow.
  24. "If we had a team of Overbays we would win more." A rugged claim, my friend.
