    BrewCrewinMN, re-read niki's post. He calls Detroit a team WITHOUT a HOFer. Although, Big Ben could make a convincing case if he keeps up his current level of play for 5 more years. Might not even require that much. You can get into the HOF on defense and rebounding. Remember Bill Russell? Everyone else does. I digress. Here's hoping the Brewers' Big Ben steals one from one of the AL's best.

    Everyone wanted Greg Miller and Edwin Jackson when we were trading Richie, but realistically, the only shot we had at them was when they were drafted. HS pitchers have a high burn out rate, and I would have preferred Nelson to any other available player, but I can't argue with stocking the system with very high ceiling arms, especially given the dearth of SP on our big league club. The fact is, we weren't going to be able to pick Rogers anywhere else in the draft, just like we weren't going to be able to pick Nelson anywhere else. We took an educated shot. Everyone knows the most valuable commodity in baseball is young starting pitching, and we've at least set ourselves up to be rich in it in 2-3 years. Finally, while it is certainly true that Jack Z's rep is based primarily on position prospects, it bears mentioning that he's good at evaluating pitchers as well, and his reputation is based on four drafts that have focused on positional prospects. Even so, he still snagged Parra and Eveland on DFEs, and Mike Jones is hardly washed up at 21 years old.

    I'm just wondering how much falls into baseball scouting. How ridiculous can it get? I'm hoping for "FAST KNUCKLES" or "UNDENIABLY MAJOR LEAGUE QUALITY FINGER NAILS" or "EARLOBES EVOKE COMPARISON TO RANDY JOHNSON".

    So why did he fall? Concerns about HS pitchers? Signability? I noticed Szymanski went two picks later to the Reds. Why would a five-tool college player fall out of the first round?

    Bj, not sure who you were responding to, but I don't think Getpaddled's comment was calling for Hall to replace Overbay tomorrow. He even predicted that Overbay would come up big in tomorrow's game. And since Yost has mentioned giving Hall a couple starts a week, it's not out of the question to see Hall soon. There's really no such thing as an everyday lineup with this squad. It isn't as if we have 8 all-stars and a roll of pennies on the bench.

    I can't imagine an injury that would screw up the subtleties of hitting more than a severe wrist injury akin to Nelson's. We have hope in how Nick Johnson bounced back after, for a time, slumping badly, but with that we'd have to take the dread that accompanies Nick Johnson's wrist-injury-recurrence-factor (WIRF).

    With Hendrickson lights out, is it possible he could break camp with the Brewers next spring? I guess it's a little early to speculate, but I would think if he could couple this showing with a strong spring training, he'd fit into the Brewers' staff somewhere. Which I'd be all for, as long as we don't pull a Torborg on him.
