  1. Since I just posted my pic in the 9-11 thread, it made me wonder who the people I am talking to behind the keyboards here at brewerfan.net. Some of you who have facebook.com and have me as a friend may have seen my photo galleries on there. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z317/jaybird2422/JayMSG1.jpgThis is me at New York's Madison Square Garden after a student media tour of the stadium.
  2. When I was in NY a couple years ago, I made it a point to take the subway to Ground Zero, but was way too paranoid and creeped out by the area because it just reminded me of what went wrong 4 or 5 years earlier. I spent as little time in the area and took a quick snapshot of the area and here is what I got: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z317/jaybird2422/GroundZero.jpg I tried to get as wide of a shot as possible, so I put my back on the wall of a store or business across the street. After I left this site, I took the No. 7 to Shea Stadium. Here is a pic of me near the Statue of Liberty, which was shut down after 9-11 but finally was re-opened a year or two ago. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z317/jaybird2422/JaySOL.jpg But believe it or not, despite 9-11, I was not as scared as I imagined I would be when my plane hit NYC. I felt safe walking around Manhattan (I was kind of spoiled because UW-Whitewater paid for my hotel fee at the luxurious Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan, just blocks away from Times Square. It was a Journalism convention. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif )
  3. I guess the reason I think her look wasn't that great and that I think she was fat at the VMAs is because her outfit just simply did not fit her body type. From a few years of looking like white trash, marrying Kevin Federline and having two kids and turning into an escaped psycho patient, it is like she is a totally different person than what she was pre-Federline. It is kind of weird how during the whole Britney Spears-Christina Aguilera debate on who would be more successful, people called Aguilera the "street walker" while Spears was considered more "wholesome." Now a few years later, it is Aguilera who has the talent and has not done anything to provoke the media from hounding her. It also seems like Aguilera actually used her voice more and her body less throughout her career. Aguilera now seems content with staying out of the limelight and married to an actual sane person. In my opinion, I always thought Aguilera had a better singing voice with some versatility while Spears always had the "teen" voice.

  5. Believe it or not, I have a total phobia of small pea-sized and pea-shaped objects. That is why I never eat peas and whenever Halloween or Christmas rolls around, I hate it when people take the foil off the little chocolate and roll it into tiny foil balls. It kind of disgusts me in a way. But I am afraid of spiders and centipedes. Snakes don't really scare me all that much, unless I know it is poisonous.
  6. It is weird because every year at 9-11, when I attended college, they would swing the campus bell at 9:11am or 9:11pm that very day. It was really weird walking around campus that day because the whole student union was packed into the Commons where there was a TV and the Warhawk was filled with people huddled around the TVs. It was like the day stood still and most students didn't even show up for class.
  7. I was sleeping in my dorm room at the Wells East 6th floor at UW-W my freshman year when it happened. It was ironically my 2nd week ever in college and I had my TV preset to ESPN and turned it on before I woke up at noon for my 12:30pm math class. Even ESPN had the breaking news on their channel. I then walked out of my dorm room to see two girls crying and a military reservist who was a freshman getting his fatigues ready because he was called into potential duty and had to report up to Fort McCoy in case. He only missed a week of class time.
  8. I guess the reason people are bashing her so much is her choice of attire during the performance. I think on a scale of 1-10 on the past Spears' scale, she would be rated a 6. But if she wants to make a comeback, she should try reinventing herself to be more of a singer than a performer.
  9. I guess so kilgore. I guess I kind of have a weak spot for tall, skinny brunettes.
  10. Anyone catch a single second of the MTV VMAs? I was at work and watched sports instead, but I heard of the so-called "Comeback Spectacular" attempted by Britney Spears and reports indicated she flopped majorly. On top of that, why did MTV decide to put the show on during the weekend in which it was the second weekend of college football, opening weekend of the NFL and a couple of golf events along with the current MLB pennant races. I looked at some Spears' pics of her "comeback performance" and she looked like a desperate stripper out there. I wanted to seriously throw up when I saw a clip of her on the 5am news on WISN today.
  11. Brady Quinn's sister is hot, and plus she looks cuter whenever Ohio State played Notre Dame when she wore the half-n-half jersey.
  12. I just got home and now I get 4 days of rest before I go back, so I am a bit relieved I can actually sit around and do nothing for a few days. Although, I hate working on 1st shift on Mondays because I have to pick up the slack on getting stuff done because someone does the least amount of work possible. After working third shift last night and then adding 1st shift to make a double, I had to do 2 hours of personal cares (minor nursing stuff) and then cook breakfast, pass medications, load dishwasher, unload dishwasher, cook lunch, pass more medications, load dishwasher, unload dishwasher, do ALL of the charting on the six residents I deal with at the group home and still found enough energy to dedicate 3 hours of one-on-one attention towards one client (which was mandated according to their service plan). Ugh, and now I gotta choose whether to go to sleep or eat... I am too tired to even eat right now and am too hungry to even nap. I work so hard at my job, I run around constantly doing everything I can and don't even find time to eat.
  13. I think Koskie gave up hockey after the fear of getting concussions, go figure. Oh, and Johnny Estrada got a degree in recreation and would have been a recreation director for at-risk youth if not for baseball. Could anyone picture him running local kids baseball leagues?
  14. I visited Cincinnati two years ago (my buddy attended Xavier) and people are right... Cincinnati people are very friendly. I just happened to be down there around their downtown Oktoberfest festivities. They literally block off all the downtown roadways and have a really huge block party for an entire weekend with bands, food and beer. My friend told me everyone hated "Cincinnat's finest" for some reason, but other than that it seemed like a good town with continuing redevelopment. But the area around GABP could have used improvement when I was visiting and the hockey arena nearby looked about as bad as the Mecca in Milwaukee. Even then when I went there, everyone seemed to respect me when I proudly wore a Brewer shirt and some even said they want to check out Miller Park. Another thing to keep in mind, one of the reasons why there may be some fans in Cincy is that maybe about a hundred or so people who attend Xavier are from Wisconsin for some reason.
  15. Holy crap, Kevin Mench's brother-in-law is Scott Podsednik? When did this happen? Is Mench secretely Lisa Dergen's brother? Or did Mench marry one of Scotty Po's sisters? Small world! How does a guy from Delaware (Mench) happen to meet Scotty Po's sister (from Texas). Sounds like this could be an interesting story, just as interesting as Brady Quinn's cute sister being married to Packers' AJ Hawk. Mench said that he would have been a hockey player had he not been in baseball, which is understandable since Delaware and the New Englands are big on hockey and pretty much every baseball player from that area also played hockey and vice versa (see: Tom Glavine and Chris Drury).
  16. According to Jenkins' brewers.com bio, he played football and basketball in high school. I wonder if he played QB, ala a "Brett Favre" look-a-like deal. Wow, it says that if JJ Hardy were not in baseball, he would have become a firefighter. Could anyone imagine JJ Hardy running into a burning house to save children, a mother and a couple cats?
  17. I read somewhere that newly called up Vinny Rottino was a varsity letterwinner in soccer during high school and it made me wonder, has any other Brewer player been famous or played another sport with adequacy throughout their life? Didn't JJ Hardy play golf or something in high school? Was Ray King ever a linebacker or defensive lineman in high school? And I seem to recall that one of our guys may have gotten offers to play basketball instead of baseball in high school. I am clueless right now. Any help? EDIT: Wanted to throw the "What if they were not playing baseball, what would they be doing instead" deal.
  18. Well, I got some good news and bad news about me entertaining the idea of moving to California for a short time. My buddy, Noah, just moved to San Diego with his girlfriend like two weeks ago and he doesn't have the space for me. But he just sent me an e-mail saying he will do anything he can to help me find a solid place to stay, or maybe a friend of his where I can stay for awhile if I decide to make the trip. He told me to let him know when I decide to make the move and he will figure something out for me. As for me auditioning for roles for kicks and giggles, he mentioned a former high school mate of ours who is out in LA and is an indy film actress doing low budget films who could help me find auditions. He said things are hectic in SoCal and I should be able to find an honest job somewhere. The more I think and entertain this idea, the more I actually want to go through with this. I mean, what better adventure for a single 20-something guy than to move to Southern California for a few months and enjoy the sites and sounds. I personally would have preferred to move to New York over L.A. since I feel my personality is more "NY" than "LA" but if I can figure things out in regards to a job and housing before I go out there, why not make the plunge?
  19. zing, I am a caregiver for adults with mental illness and traumatic brain injuries and do some minor CNA work. I gave my boss my two week notice 3 months ago and he wouldn't take it at all and basically talked me into staying. I have worked for the same company for nearly three years now and I can't even escape the company at all. It also helps that a coworker of mine, whom I mentioned before, looks like a cross between Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel (body of Biel, face of Scarlett and lips of Biel.) But then again, my bosses have worked desperately to keep me and the only way I would be willing to work is if all my work days were crammed in a 3-day span so I get four days off every week. It isn't too bad, but I just got home this morning and I am so irritable that I probably won't be able to fall asleep until about noon or 1pm and then go right back into work tonight at 11pm.
  20. I won't be in much every weekend due to my hectic work schedule now. I now have to work the following EVERY week: Tonight: 11pm-7am Saturday Saturday: 3pm-7am Sunday Sunday: 11pm-3pm Monday The worst is that I won't be able to have time to go home and sleep tomorrow morning, so I have to sleep at work. I would like to buy a ton of energy drinks because I am going to need them now. I will have to make friends with the coffee maker every weekend. Anyone ever have weekends, shifts like this?
  21. I prefer Jimmy Johns Subs all the way. Now that there is one in Kenosha, which is minutes from where I live in Racine, I find myself going there all the time. I always ordered a Turkey Tom without mayo and sprouts, but add in oregano and provolone.
  22. I have been thinking about this for a bit. Although I will always call Wisconsin "home" I have been considering a short-term temporary move to Southern California for a few months. I have a lot of college and high school buddies who live in LA and San Diego and have been thinking about reuniting with them out in Southern California. I know the cost of living may be high, there could be some jobs to be had in busy and happening places in SoCal, plus I got experience in some fields. I was thinking of just packing a large military-style bag and boarding a Greyhound Bus for California and just chill there for a few months (I have the time, since I am on hiatus from college and just feel like the adventurous type at this point and I am kind of young, 24). I have even thought of auditioning for TV shows, etc. for kicks and giggles even though I know I have no shot at the roles.
  23. dj, I did a net search on Ray King's story of assisting stranded motorists by Miller Park. I found one link from the Wisconsin State Journal, but the story is so old it is now being hosted by an online subscription service that requires you to pay to view the archived article.
