  1. tigerbrew, I would think a managerial change would essentially shake up the whole Milwaukee baseball world. But stranger things have happened in baseball when it comes to manager changes. Like Mike Hargrove resigning this season in the midst of a winning campaign and the Marlins firing Joe Girardi, the offseason after he was named NL Manager of the Year. I just don't see this happening right now. We all don't know for sure what is on Doug Melvin's mind, he obviously may know he needs to make some changes, but then again he may still believe this team will be more competitive next season with all of the younger guys having a full season under their belts. But who really knows what will happen? We were all semi-shocked when Wendy resigned and fired Bando simultaneously and immediately inserted Ulice Payne and Doug Melvin towards the end of the season. I say semi-shocked because well, we obviously were not very good, but it was just unbelievable that it actually finally happened.
  2. Hey princeginter, well you live in Kenosha now? Or still in Whitewater? You probably must have heard of Brotoloc a lot out in Whitewater. I work at the Milwaukee county region of Brotoloc currently. I called the Kenosha region today and they said they might have a second shift fulltime position open, which may just entice me to simply outright transfer to Kenosha and regain fulltime status. Since you are somewhat of a health major, the job may be something you could be interested in. Hopefully I will be able to negotiate something with them on Monday.
  3. Ball Four by Jim Bouton. I always try to get a baseball fan coworker of mine to read the book but he just won't. It is an excellent, but one of my kleptomaniac residents (I am a caregiver) stole the book thinking it was hers from my mailbox when I had the day off. Needless to say, I never saw the book again. But I do have the 20th anniversary "Where are they now" edition with updates of all the players. It's probably a more informative read for the 1989 production of the book because of the added update section. Fair Ball by Bob Costas was a good book, but since it revolved around the 1994 strike, it may seem a big out of sorts today. But Costas did quote Uke in the book during one of the games they covered together, Costas quoted Uke as yelling, "this game (stinks)."
  4. Rob Ducey was part of unusual trade, he was dealt to Blue Jays from the Phils for a PTBNL then less than a few weeks later he was dealt in a separate trade as the PTBNL back to the Phils. July 26, 2000: Traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later. The Toronto Blue Jays sent John Sneed (minors) (July 31, 2000) to the Philadelphia Phillies to complete the trade. August 7, 2000: Sent by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Philadelphia Phillies to complete an earlier deal made on August 5, 2000. The Toronto Blue Jays sent a player to be named later to the Philadelphia Phillies for Mickey Morandini. The Toronto Blue Jays sent Rob Ducey (August 7, 2000) to the Philadelphia Phillies to complete the trade.
  5. Well, I am starting to get frustrated to the point where I am about to call all of the places I have applied at and give them threatening messages stating that they are a bunch of idiots and are losing out on a valuable person for their company. If they choose to give me a lame excuse, I will literally scream at them. I am also so dang frustrated I seriously want to go postal on these companies for overlooking my application and resume because I know I am good for something. I am being as polite as possible on this message without using excessive profanities. I am about ready to send them awful e-mails as to how poorly they are treating me as an applicant. I have literally applied for more than 50 clerical jobs in the medical profession with 4 different hospitals/clinics in Racine/Kenosha and applied as a behavioral health associate 10 times and they still won't call me back despite the fact that I have the state mandated training already as well as nearly 3 years experience in the field. Is there something wrong with this picture? Should I seriously call them up and ask, "what gives?" What is more frustrating and demeaning is I got a rejection e-mail as a FOOD SERVICE WORKER, a FOOD SERVICE WORKER at one of the hospitals! I cook meals every freakin day at work for residents and they feel I am not qualified to be a dang FOOD SERVICE WORKER?!!!!?????! (Explodes and screams on top of his lungs)
  6. Wow Ajay, you really summed up every single thing wrong with the team. Hit the nail on the head with every single point. At what point does Doug Melvin start to assess the shortcomings of the team and actually pull away with a plan for 2008? It is true the whole rotation can't last more than 5 innings to save their lives, further tiring out the bullpen. I think the whole pitching staff is the result of a total chain reaction. The starters couldn't last anymore than 6+ innings earlier in the season, causing Turnbow and Cordero to get a lot more appearances than usual. Turnbow has 58 appearances this season, just 11 shy of his career high total and we have more than a month left of baseball to play. In addition, he has already surpassed 53 total innings of work and is 12.3 innings away from matching his career high. Both stats were set in 2005. Cordero doesn't seem nearly as fatigued because he has been a workhorse for most of his career. I also examined Carlos Villanueva's IP and pitching appearances and he has already eclipsed 50 appearances, five times as much as 2006, and also his IP has been eclipsed as a career high as well. The problem here is, the bullpen is obviously overworked because the starting pitching can't complete a ballgame. I also would like to see the amount of quality starts compiled by our rotation and compare it with the rest of the NL. In addition, because of our pitching rotation doing so poorly in completing games, we have had to stretch out our two best young arms in Yo Gallardo and Manny Parra. Gallardo's innings pitched has got to be getting to the point where our scouts are starting to cringe and wonder if we will eventually ruin him one way or the other. Same with Parra. We are so limited as to what we can do with these two arms that we further add to the stress of the bullpen. It is a vicious circle that will not change unless our starters can actually give them a break. Are these pitching crises Yost's fault? Shouldn't our starters be held accountable for the mess they have created? They allowed the Rox to explode a week or two ago, they allowed the Cardinals to explode tonight. They allowed every team to blow us out recently and Yost can only do so much with our given bullpen. He can't rely on Wise anymore, as stated above, he can't rely on Villy as much anymore. So where do you turn to? The hitting is another story, when will our hitters finally get off their collective butts and do something about their struggling ways? The offensive situation essentially makes me speechless because there just seems to be no rhyme or reason why they are struggling right now, no excuses.
  7. You know what Terrace, I somewhat agree with you on that. We can all blame the manager after every loss, but somewhere down the line a player needs to stand up and be held accountable for their losses. Not one player is talking and swallowing his pride and says, "I am not doing well, it is my fault." The whole dang team is as mute as possible after every loss, no one is saying anything, no one is holding themselves accountable for their poor play. Back in the day when Marquis Grissom stunk it up in Milwaukee he once stated, "I know I stink. The fans know I stink." I would have more respect for a player if he would actually tell it like it is right now, even if it means putting themselves on the line. I am indifferent on Ned Yost right now because of his lineup changes and all... but there comes a time where the players have to speak for the team through their examples on the field. Not one player is speaking up and willing to be the sacrificial lamb for this team right now.
  8. The Brewers need a slumpbuster really bad. Any chance we can get Mimi from the Drew Carey show to "help the players?"

  10. I have only been down to Sangamon County once for a trial of a former state education official of Illinois during my internship with the Waukegan News-Sun. The veteran reporter, who retired before the trial, handed the case over to me a week before the trial. He told me there really isn't much in downtown Springfield as far as tourist attractions and any good quality hotels. I concurred with him when I went down there, didn't spend much time down there, but from what I saw there is a lot of development as far as industry is concerned. But like other people say, the State of Illinois needs all the help they can get. If you have a degree in social services, political science or human resources or some other deal where you once dealt with the public, you will likely get a good look by them. But to say the least, there isn't much as far as jobs on the outskirts of Springfield. I was on I-55 for the whole drive from Milwaukee to Springfield, Ill twice in one day and its mostly farm towns outside of Springfield. The closest urbanized town or city is Decatur and Normal/Bloomington. But all I can really remember about Springfield was the boring 5 hour drive beginning at 3:30am (I was cheap and didn't want to pay for a hotel room overnight so I went for the long haul and did a round trip from Milwaukee to Springfield and then Springfield to Waukegan that day. But the people I talked to were very friendly and I may know an Assistant States' Attorney down there that you can get into contact with if you would like info on any state jobs.
  11. Did a simple google search and there is a web site that has a "clone" of Oregon trail called "westward trail." Also wikipedia has some info. I kinda miss playing the game so I will check out the generic version, westward trail.
  12. I tried this text messaging deal and it really works. I was filling out a job application and needed the number and address of one of my former employers while I filled it out at the place of employment and within 5 seconds I not only get a good reply, but two more text messages with further info.
  13. Jamie, can you change the name of your topic because everytime someone uses an "@" symbol, it screws up the topic name on the forum page and displays the actual URL.
  14. This story is about as frivolous as the Washington, DC appelate judge suing a mom and pop dry cleaner for 54 million dollars after they damaged his dress slacks. Apparently the councilman is suing for pain and suffering and refuses to budge. What is more awful is that the mom and pop are legal nationals with work visas and they may be forced to abandon their American dream and move back to Asia because of this ludicrous man.
  15. Now people are hating on Marcus Hanel? I know some of his family friends from Racine, but he always seemed like a total jerk whenever we talked.
  16. What was wrong with Spurling? He seemed to be a decent arm in the bullpen and helped us out a few times during the season.
  17. I am drunk as hell yet, all I am thinking about is Katherine Heigl (see: hot chick thread) and I am kinda outta it.
  18. The other day I was riding around my hometown with my bike and passed the old park where the Racine Belles of the AAGBPL played their games. I am surprised the place is still operating and now half of the area is occupied by the Racine Raiders minor league football team and the field is still intact and plays host to the Land O Lakes Racine Kiwanis team. Does anyone have any relatives or know anyone who once played or was involved with the All-Americans Girls Pro Baseball League? I never even realized this, but the Detroit Lions were once the Racine Legion and played its games at Horlick Field in Racine. This website states that the Packers and Bears played there. Here is a pic of the original Horlick Field, the only one I could find online: http://www.aagpbl.org/images/gallery/misc/phmphf.gif The place has changed. One of the foul pole markers still remains, but sits on the football side of the stadium now and then the Press Box remains but is never used. http://www.geocities.com/shoeless1920/Horlick2.jpg
  19. Well, I am still trying to find a better job than the 8.75 an hour job I got now and there are absolutely NO jobs available in Racine/Kenosha right now. I decided to sign on with PA staffing today and I wasted 2 hours of my life I will never get back. I first took the computer exam which scored me lowly on the Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint tests because the stupid computer wouldn't let me do what it told me to do MY WAY. I scored a freakin 53 percent on the Excel and PowerPoint exams because I had no idea how to do the test MY WAY and it kept saying incorrect. Then when I finished the entire process (application included), the representative told me there wasn't any positions open for them to put me into at this point. Why waste my time? I feel like my time there was a total joke. And then the funny part of the final assessment was that my strong point is MATH? In college I couldn't even make it past Intermediate Algebra and had to drop finite math because it was so hard. Then they said my communication skills are my weakness, what crock is that? I once got three of my articles published in the Chicago Sun-Times. Total joke and a waste of my time. If anyone needs me I will be filling out an application at the local McDonalds' because apparently companies don't hire people who are less than a semester away from a degree who does possess the credentials that they are seeking at this point. I got the credentials, but apparently they need to see the piece of paper that says I graduated. I just don't get it right now. I have experience in social work, counseling, newspaper reporting and public relations and had two good journalism internships and yet the places I have applied to think I am either too qualified or not qualified enough. I check milwaukeejobs.com everyday for new postings and monster jobs doesn't help me and neither does indeed.com And with my terrible driving accident back in January I won't be eligible for most jobs since my record has a black mark. I haven't had a car since my accident because I can't afford a new one right now and my credit rating is worse than when it was when I got a car on loan from a local bank so I have to public transit (bus) to work every morning that I could work at a possible new job in Racine/Kenosha. I have borrowed a vehicle or two from co-workers in Milwaukee even though I don't get my license back until September. Can someone in here throw me a fricken bone or something?

  21. Wow, thanks Brian. Now it seems to be just fine. Just a simple symbol? Can you go back a couple games to edit them as well if you feel up to it?
  22. casey, yeah I am using the same computer with the same web browser for this forum. It is like the past couple days, the forum has gone completely wacko and haywire. The IGT's as stated above, show the actual topic (eg. Brewers-Rockies 8/8/07) for a split millisecond as the page uploads, then it reverts to the URL address as the topic. It is kind of annoying because it is harder for me to find the actual game thread for the given day. The whole entire message board has gone whacko as well. The title headers seem to change whenever it feels like, as I said above. One minute the last column on the right says "Last post: time and date stamp" with no author of the last post. Then the next minute it shows the author of the last post. It is really screwy and I know you probably don't understand a word I am saying right now.
  23. The most common question for out-of-towners always seems to be hotel access from the ballpark. I am surprised a Ramada or Holiday Inn hasn't attempted to buy a parcel of land and build a hotel nearby by now. But the Discovery World and Children's Museum are great ideas. When I was in elementary school (which was like 15 years ago) I had a fun time at the Discovery World. I don't even think Betty Brinn existed when I was that age. If you are anywhere near downtown, you won't find much to do that can involve kids. Unless your wife loves shopping, there isn't much else in downtown Milwaukee (shopping is a generous term for Grand Avenue Mall). If you have a vehicle, you could maybe see if you can tour some of the Milwaukee County Parks (I know the Wehr center at Whitnall Park isn't too bad, but it is like a very miniature zoo with a couple educational tours). Other than that, there isn't much else out there. But you should be able to spend the majority of the day at Discovery World and Irish Fest before the game without having to do much else.
  24. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.
  25. Oops, sorry. I guess I wasn't reading the initial post correctly. (duh @ me)
