  1. And now I get a polish sausage and there isn't a bottle Secret Stadium Sauce to be found... And the one sweatshirt I'd like to buy from the team shop is sold out of XL. Not my night.
  2. If one of the goals of this new concession experience is to get fans through faster, then they still have work to do. The home plate taco stand was slowwwww... and the lines elsewhere were not moving at all.
  3. DC traffic can be bad. I have only used taxis there and there seemed to be constant traffic in a city not planned for it. I would rent a car, myself, as Philadelphia is fine and Baltimore is also fine. Having phone navigation has really made trips like these easier. There is a sports museum near Camden Yards that was worth the time. Plus the Babe Ruth Birthplace is also cool. Have a great time!
  4. I think he is a genius. But all of that hands on stuff is going to blow up sooner or later. The kid is going to push back, and if he does it publicly, then the drama will really get out of control. I think the shoes are ridiculous. But I've bought lots of ridiculous things, so if he can sell them, then so be it. What I don't like is the media deciding that he's important enough to report on. He's just the latest in a string of sports dads who over-involve themselves in their kid's career.
  5. I guess the move happened during the off-season, but was just announced tonight by August. He has an interesting resume, most recently a contributor to Fangraphs.
  6. Twitter says August has joined the Brewers front office as an analyst. Welcome aboard, August. Build a winner!
  7. I'm curious what is different in the Player Instruction & Development department under Stearns vs. Melvin. Have they made changes to nutrition? Personal Training? Strike zone management? Player Assessment? Injury prevention? That kind of stuff is usually kept hidden from the public, so they're not likely to pull back the curtain. But it doesn't really maximize their investment in these players if they keep having them do the same things they've always done. Victor Roache was kind of panned when he was taken, so maybe there was nothing they could have done that would have made him a major leaguer. But if they don't produce better players than the Reds, Pirates, Cardinals and Cubs, there's little chance to compete.
  8. To be fair Haniger looks very good right now and McCullers was a top 15 talent who took a $2.5+ million bonus which would have been quite difficult for the Brewers to gain without punting on another of their top 3 picks. The Brewers record of 1st round failure makes that punt fairly harmless. I think it is (or was) more than just being unlucky. A team that needs to "Draft and Develop" has to do a better job of drafting and developing. Maybe the Stearns regime will be better at growing players. It's telling that most of the highly touted young players in the system were acquired from other teams.
  9. That was a dreadful draft. Counter, Roache and Haniger taken when Gallo, Piscotty, Brinson and McCullers were there to be had. Good to move guys who have no future with the team, bad that it look nearly 6 years to find that out.
  10. The softness is pretty nice, but the new fabric is so thin. I need some bulk to adequately cover my bulk.
  11. I'm bothered by modem fabric. I've complained for the past several years about polo shirts being made from tech-blend material...polyester and other man made fabrics. They are too thin and unbecoming to guys who aren't ripped. Add to that the fashion t-shirts made from tri-blend or anything that's not 100 percent heavyweight cotton. There are some awesome graphic designs being put onto t-shirts, but again, they're using thin fabric instead of traditional all cotton fabric. I won't buy them. But I would if they would use traditional fabric.
  12. I don't think there's much of a market. Maybe you could get $25 each, but you might sit on them for awhile. Recycled bricks aren't especially rare, and there's nothing especially noteworthy about the County Stadium ones to make them stand out. I have one, too, and it's on a bookshelf, taking up space. They're very heavy, so shipping could be expensive.
  13. Yep. Millar and Chris Rose doing and saying wacky things. The best episodes, though, are the ones when other MLB people substitute for Rose or Millar, and they become awkwardly casual. Like they're not quite comfortable taking on a Millar-like persona when they're used to being straight-laced on the other shows. You're right, that's the ESPN product now. One hot take after another. Throw in some video clips, a crawl about Lebron, a PTI-style list of upcoming topics. Rinse and repeat.
  14. And the rumors were confirmed today that ESPN2 will carry MLB Network's Intentional Talk as part of their afternoon programming. It's an interesting move, for sure, as it expands the relationship between the two networks. But they chose the silliest, least "basebally" show in the MLB lineup. It's not a preview show or a recap show or a gambling/fantasy show. It's a personality/comedy/interview show. I'm less likely to watch Intentional Talk than anything on MLB, and it's an indication that ESPN2 isn't interested in appealing to guys like me.
  15. My own sports consumption has really changed over the years. I used to be an ESPN viewer, but several years ago, they decided to focus so much attention on national stars that it just got to be too much for me. Kobe, LeBron, Tiger, Brady, Peyton... Then their baseball coverage was so dominated by Yankees vs. Red Sox...all that while, I stopped caring about the NFL, NBA, College sports... now, I'll watch for a national baseball game once in awhile, but really, I can get all the televised sports that I care about from MLB Network and local broadcasts. I still listen to Buster's podcast and to Eric Karabell's fantasy baseball podcast, but that's really all that I consume from ESPN.
  16. I watched Baseball Tonight last night for the first time in years and I was shocked on how shallow it was, and how often they went to commercials. I love Kurkjian and Keith Law has grown on me, but Ravech is a little off-putting and don't know what Aaron Boone was supposed to be contributing. The "former athlete who provides expertise" staple of sports broadcasting often falls flat for me. I'd prefer an insightful writer or front office type to deliver perspective and analysis.
  17. Rumors are that ESPN is scaling way back on baseball. They have already let Jayson Stark go. Word is that Karl Ravech's role will be significantly reduced. Others in their baseball coverage who were shown the door are Mark Saxon, Doug Glanville, Dallas Braden and Raul Ibanez. Internet talk is that they may use MLB Network's Intentional Talk as feed programming. I want more baseball on my tv, not less.
  18. I saw my first live IBB under the new rules on Sunday when Hughes walked Wong to pitch to Fryer. It was weird, I thought I missed a HBP or Catcher's Interference. Nope. Just a walk to bring up a guy who drove in a run.
  19. I know that I've had sausage dipped in SS sauce at Miller Park, even maybe last year. There was a concession stand on the Loge level, 1st bade side, near home plate, where the flat grill was visible from the front, and there was a small pan of sauce, and I would get sausages dipped there. Not sure if the new food stands have any visible cooking stations, or if they're all hidden in the back. I was only at one today. We'll be back next Sunday and I'll have more time to scout around.
  20. Had my first experience today at the new concession stands. I really miss the food cart serving food from the visiting city. That will be missed. I had a polish sausage ($7.00). I think they were $5.25 last year. I think the sausage is bigger this year? Maybe it's just the bun. Went out to the cart to load up with diced onions, but the Secret Stadium Sauce was empty. I walked down the concourse to the next condiment stand and got the last squirt of SS sauce. I do like the queuing system better than the lines at each individual cashier. Otherwise, it was the same experience for me as always, albeit at a higher price.
  21. Just got back from a cruise. Saw a couple of 50-something guys wearing SEC team visors. Dumb, loud and combative.
  22. I am amused, confused and enraged all at the same time. Congrats! That's really hard to do.
  23. Oh he has a right to be ticked. But I disagree that this somehow tarnishes Stearns in some way. At the end of the day they shouldn't have told them that they were pitching for a job in spring training. Should have told them "Pitch well and we will see what happens but no promises." I don't think it puts a stain on Stearns. But he's not perfect. He's still new in the job and he's going to make mistakes. Is this one of them? Maybe. I'm far out on the speculation branch, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt...mostly. If something like this comes up again, though, then we may have a problem.
