  1. I'm stunned that Donna Douglas was born in 1933. She was at least 10 years older than her Ellie May Clampett character. I miss that kind of sitcom.
  2. If they brought in traveling exhibits of sports memorabilia, it could work. They can't just rely on bobble head enthusiasts. Who would ever go a 2nd time?
  3. I would like to snark on this, but I have an unbreakable appreciation for Bud Selig and the impact he has had on life in Milwaukee. Without him there is no Miller Park, no Milwaukee Brewers, no Brewerfan.net. I am so lucky to have grown up with a major league baseball team in my hometown, and he is responsible for all of it. There have been so many great times, and some miserable and infuriating ones, too...but at this stage in his life, the Brewers and MLB can't do enough to honor and recognize the contributions he has made. So while the "Bud Selig Experience" has me thinking of a hologram of a rumpled guy in a rumpled suit, eating a hot dog from Gilles, talking on the phone with Jerry Reinsdorf, I'm sure the reality of it will be a respectful and fantastic celebration of a man who has given us so much.
  4. I have purchased my 20 game pack for 2015. If you call the ticket office, I'm sure you can talk to someone who will sell you tickets and answer all your questions. I'm not in the club level, so I can't help you with that info.
  5. Miami is a great port. Very close to the airport. I think Port Canaveral is way up the coast. Not sure which airport would best serve those passengers. We sailed out of Miami last spring. Very busy, but great. Taxi service is convenient, and they have a parking structure if you're driving.
  6. We have not sailed on a Disney cruise, but last spring break, we sailed with our 9-year old daughter on a Nickelodeon cruise, aboard the Norwegian Epic. It sailed to the Western Caribbean with stops in Jamaica, and two in Mexico. Truth be told, they bill it as a Nickelodeon cruise, but really, it's a Norwegian cruise and they have Nickelodeon as a sponsor for the kids program. It was fun for all of us. So much so that we're going on another one (East Caribbean) this coming spring.
  7. Intoxicated. 5 times the legal limit. We just can't seem to learn the lessons of previous generations.
  8. I would think the Brewers would be doing one of the Retro bobbles in a non-Caucasian version. It looks like a lot of thought went into these. I like the timing of the Molitor and Deer bobbles. I like the Bud Selig one. I'd love to see them do one of Al Simmons, or one representing the 1901 AL Brewers. Hugh Duffy is a Hall of Famer, and he was a regular on that team. They could probably do a Bruce Froemming bobble. . .I like the more obscure things, though admittedly, those don't promote the current roster, or fill the stadium.
  9. I don't use the word dynasty as a part of my regular vocabulary. But I guess they're a dynasty. 3 WS titles in 5 years, which, if it ended today, would be enough to send Bruce Bochy and probably Brian Sabean to the Hall of Fame. They are not the Big Red Machine, or the 1950s or turn of this century Yankees, but they have accomplished a feat not often accomplished. That they play on the west coast makes it difficult to follow them on a daily basis. Besides Posey and maybe Bumgarner, they don't have any other players who appear to be on a HOF track, so that doesn't scream Dynasty. . .but they are a three-time champion in an era when that's pretty difficult.
  10. There's a limited edition of 1000, and I would be surprised if they sell 50. But I could be wrong. There's got to be more to it. It just seems so dumb.
  11. That seems like a silly purchase. It's a single seat, and at $1000, the only game that could be worth it would be a Game 7. And as a single seat, you're not guaranteed to be near your friends. And as a collectible, what desk ornament is worth $1000?
  12. My favorite part of Welcome Back Kotter was during the short segments, either leading in to the show or at the end, when Gabe was telling a story/joke to Mrs. K. It was just the two of them in the apartment together. Obviously it was written and rehearsed and they were actors, but when Kaplan delivered the punchline, and she would laugh, it seemed very sweet and charming. As a teenager, that's how I imagined a great marriage would be.
  13. That's a good post, Outlander. I like to collect stuff, but recognize that I can't have it all, and I only buy stuff I really like. So some card sets will go uncompleted, and autograph books will be missing some guys. It's supposed to be a joyful hobby, not a stressful one.
  14. How in the world is FarmersOnly.com able to pay for all their advertising? Are there that many people willing to pay for a dating site where you only have access to other farmers? And if you're a single farmer presumably in a rural area, aren't you kind of aware of all the other people in your area by going to bars, the grocery store, church, etc.? It seems like such a niche audience to devote advertising money to tv.
  15. Monday is "Wear a Blue Shirt to signify that you're anti-bullying" day. Aren't we being bullied into wearing a blue shirt? What if I don't want to wear a blue shirt? Can't I wear whatever I want and still be anti-bullying? To those who came up with this idea, and especially those who are forcing it upon school kids, you can eat it.
  16. I wonder how many fewer commercials will air on radio & tv. Broadcasters want to satisfy advertisers, and I suspect they will complain (though perhaps not publicly) about lost revenue.
  17. I wish he would have made an appearance during the last game. I think the fans would have been thankful and respectful. It's hard when a player of his tenure leaves without any fanfare. He didn't live up to the expectations of being taken #2--almost nobody does. He seemed so private and quiet publicly, that I don't know anything about him, despite a 10-year run. He might land somewhere next year. I can't see him playing every day for a contender, but he has shown power at a position often lacking in power, so someone might give him a shot.
  18. It is odd, and it speaks a lot of the character of Trammel.
  19. He deserves our thanks. I am very lucky to have grown up in a city with a major league baseball franchise. I hope he writes a book or two about his time as Brewers owner.
  20. I don't think it's a sad franchise. It brings a lot of joy and hope to a lot of people. They provide awesome community outreach, and serve as a catalyst for a great charitable effort. Still, the lack of postseason success is disappointing. And this year's collapse was especially hard to take. But there are pieces there to make next year's team competitive. The Brewers have one of the better owners in the game. And I was really excited by the amateur draft for the long term future. I'm not often optimistic, but I am positive about the Brewers going forward.
  21. The Brewers are starting Monday night games early in the season at 6:20 p.m. as an experiment. I have no objection to that at all. If I miss an inning or two at the beginning, that's fine for me. On a school night, I'm leaving by 9:00 anyway. My only objection to this committee is that its members are the same old guys who are always tapped for special projects. It would be refreshing if MLB would tap into some younger brains.
  22. Well, they finally got it right with Peterson, and it seems that other teams are also moving toward benching/suspending guys with Domestic Violence charges. It shouldn't have come to threats from advertisers and potential fan boycotts. The league should have been out front on this. Instead, they are forced to react to outside pressure.
  23. I do think it is a big deal to them. I don't think they like the controversies. I just think they were tone deaf in how they handled these cases. Nobody likes for outside groups to pressure them to act, and I think that is especially pervasive in the NFL. I think they want to handle everything internally, not share their process or details with the media & public, and I think they don't know how to handle criticism. The NFL has shot to the top of the sports world doing it their way, and every time they have faced criticism, it eventually goes away.
  24. Music artists aren't team players. Nobody gives a rip what record company someone is signed to. Nobody is a fan of a record label. My implication is that the NFL has a history of not caring about anything other than their own short term revenues, and in hiding their problems from the public. They have proven that by their tobacco-company-like handling of brain injuries. It took public outrage to get the NFL off of their initial 2-game Rice suspension. I think they either willfully ignored the elevator video, or they saw it and hoped it wouldn't go public. They didn't show a moral compass until they were forced to.
  25. While I applaud Radisson Hotels, the only thing that really matters to the NFL is what happens to them financially. Will the Vikings suffer for this, or will another sponsor jump at the chance to partner with the team? Michael Vick killed dogs, Ben Roethlisberger behaved badly toward a woman/women, Junior Seau killed himself because of brain damage. . .and yet the NFL's revenues have never been higher. These news stories create a bunch of outrage, and then we go back to watching games. If we keep watching games, buying merchandise, etc. then all this message board stuff is empty.
