  1. I'm pretty undecided on Pierre. I don't think he's as bad as many seem to think he is, and he's certainly better then at least a few of the options lobbied about to play CF for the Brewers next year, Anthony Gwynn Jr for example. But he is over paid for the skills he does have, and he most certainly has holes in his game. I guess I'd prefer if the team went after more complete players then try and overcompensate for some perceived team weakness.
  2. Heck, his best month was September, which isn't a warm month at all.
  3. So wait, is he a second half player or a warm-weather player? Because I really have no idea what you are talking about.
  4. Doing some quick calculations this is what I came up with regarding pitchers ages. Total pitchers used in 2006 = 635 lefties = 168 righties = 467 lefties 30 years or older = 61 = 36% of lefties >31 = 51 = 30% >32 = 42 = 25% >33 = 37 = 22% >34 = 32 = 19% >35 = 26 = 15% >36 = 22 = 13% >37 = 14 = 8% >38 = 13 = 7% righties >30 = 155 = 33% of righties >31 = 177 = 27% >32 = 144 = 22% >33 = 122 = 18% >34 = 94 = 13% >35 = 71 = 10% >36 = 59 = 8% >37 = 41 = 6% >38 = 31 = 4% So going off of the numbers used, pitchers thirty years and older represent about 1/3 of all pitchers. By 32 years of age, pitchers represent about 1/4 of all pitchers. That's a fairly dramatic drop in only two years. Not only that, it does show that King is old, as within two years the number of pitchers still in the league drops down to around 15%. He is clearly in the age range of when players leave the league due to age/productivity. Another thing, nothing shows any ability for a large amount of lefthanded pitchers careers to last significantly longer then righthanded pitchers. It does show they seem to stick around about one year longer, but I'dont think that is advantage enough to claim that a 32 year old pitcher is not old. Just by simple averages he (King) would last about 2 more years. So it seems to me that not only is King old for a pitcher, he is old for a left-handed pitcher. So I again wonder why we would put any time or money into a player like King when we already have several potential in-house candidates, let alone their are players like this sitting around the waiver wire every spring who can be had for nothing.
  5. Evidently Al can look at a miserable performance like that and pretend all he likes. I mean, batters teeing off to a tune of a .901 OPS against King is worth $3-4 million easy. I guess being old, overpaid, overweight, and ineffective are reason enough to want him back. My bad.
  6. Yeah, I doubt Krynzel would make a good LOOGY either. But then, no one's arguing that but you Al.
  7. I'd rather see what Stetter, or someone under 65, could do.
  8. With Jason Bartlett manning SS they would have no interest in Hardy. As for the last time they traded for a big time veteran, they've acquired Phil Nevin, Bret Boone, Joe Nathan, Carlos Silva, and Shannon Stweart in the past three years. They've even sent minor league players just for major league backups like Jesse Orosco and Pat Borders. And if you want to go waaaay back to 2001, they traded for Todd Jones and Rick Reed during their pennant drive. So yeah, they trade for veterans, big-time and otherwise, just like they trade for prospects.
  9. Kubel would be awesome, though I doubt the Twins would want to take on $11 million in salary. We'd have to pay at least $3-4 million, though it may be worth it. That's what I was thinking as well. If the Twins pick up Silva's option I could see him being dangled around. As for upgrading 3rd, it won't happen. Gardenhire and Ryan love Punto and have no plans of looking for any other option at 3rd. The areas they need are LF, DH and starting pitching. Davis and Jenkins would shore up two of those, and if you throw in a decent prospect you could probably get Kubel, a pitching prospect (Baker or JD Durbin), and then someone like Silva to balance out salaries a bit more. While the Twins haven't soured on Baker, they are frustrated with him. So I do think he'd be available for the right price.
  10. The Twins are souring on Jason Kubel and are loaded with young pitching. I wouldn't be suprised if a Davis + Jenkins offer could snag Kubel plus a prospect or two.
  11. While he isn't taller, Mauer is actually slightly bigger then Alomar was. Which makes his range and fluidity behind the plate even more impressive IMO.
  12. He might be thinking Koskie will try to come back just to sit on the DL and collect his money. If that's the case I'm all for releasing him. Koskie is known as a pretty standup guy and an excellent influence in the clubhouse. This type of behavior would be completely contradictory to the past 8 or so seasons he's had in the majors.
  13. I have it on good authority that EZ Supporter is with the terrorists.
  14. Maybe they measure from the base of the mound up?
  15. A pill-popping waiver wire pickup? Seems remarkably pessimistic of you Harold.
  16. Braun has certainly answered pretty much every question I had about his bat which I am rather happy about. My guess is he will be a pretty fair long shot to make the major league club and will stay in AAA until the Brewers feel his D is adequate enough for the majors. I'd really be suprised if he was in AAA for any more then half a season before being called up.
  17. I still think it's more likely Cain gets bumped to AA rather then one of them repeating A ball again. None of them have struggled or shown a need for more seasoning at A ball, so it would be a rather curious move to make, as well as potentially giving off a poor message to the other prospects in the organization.
  18. As for best of the decade I could probably make a list of just documentaries, but Capturing the Friedmans and Grizzly Man would definately make the list. Eternal Sunshine is an easy pick as well, and I'd put The Squid and the Whale somewhere in the top 5. But my sleeper pick for the decade would easily be Ong-bak, which very well maybe the most entertaining movie I have ever seen. PS -Lynch sucks. He couldn't tell a narrative if his life depended on it, let alone coherently. I'd let him be an art director for a film anyday though.
  19. That and I have a low tolerance for Greg Kinnear. That better not be the soup talking.
  20. Certainly no... what? The Proposition. Slight HTML gaf caused the mixup. Oh yeah, watch The Proposition whenever it makes it to video.
  21. I think the moment I realized Brick had it's hooks in me was when he bat a confession out of the pot head. In any other modern movie it would have seemed out of place and entirely hokey, but it just worked. Really enjoyable movie, but I doubt it will make my top ten. It's no Little Miss Sunshine and it's certainly no Proposition, which may go down as one of my all-time favorite movies. As for recent views I watch Irreversible for the first time last week. Maybe it was all the buildup it got, but I wasn't blown away by it. The intial scene was marred by the absurdly obvious CGI use, and I felt that the stpry would have been more powerful if it was told from beginning to end rather than in reverse. The last 20 minutes simply bored me to tears, which didn't help change my feelings that it was simply a remade Straw Dogs with some fancy editing. Nice movie, but certainly no where near as good as I had heard it was. Also watched Cache again tonight, which is easily in my top 5 for the year. Just a stunningly brilliant thriller in which absolutely nothing happens. I can't ever remember being on the edge of my seat thru a movie in which nothing ever happens to cause me to be nervous or on edge. Haneke's ability to manipulate an audience's mood is simply staggering. Oh yeah, go rent Duck Season, which is another of my favorites from this past year. It never got a US release, which is a complete shame. Truly a wonderful film that deserves to be seen. As for theatre releases, if The Descent is still playing in theatres near you run out and watch it. The first time I have been not only scared, but terrified out of my whits by a horror movie since The Blair Witch Project. It's oodles of fun to boot and a small screen just won't do the film justice.
  22. Shocking abuse of power.
  23. Why don't you go back to the issues forum and rip on the draft forum some more. That's Who's Godson? Forum
  24. Can we change the Minor League Forum to the "Overhyped Franchise Saviors" forum?
  25. To the back of the bus, Russ!
