  1. So basically you're saying they should have been on him once he crossed half court.
  2. As for #2, there's not much you can do with 5.7 seconds left and the length of the floor to traverse. Maybe you get one pass if you're lucky. I have no problem with that final shot.
  3. I mean a dude hit a 26 footer. If you told me that UK would have to shoot from 26 feet in order to win I'd have been very happy with that. As they say in The Big Lebowski "Sometimes the bar eats you."
  4. I think it's funny that there's so much UK love when Arizona is probably better than UK. I don't buy this whole "they've come together as a team in two weeks!" They were unlucky in close games during the year and lucky during the tournament. I think UW can and should win...which sort of ticks me off because if they lose I'll be really upset.
  5. OK that sucks. This is the first year I'm filing as a self employed person. Sticker shock to say the least. How can I avoid that going forward? EDIT: http://blog.turbotax.intuit.com/2010/06/14/6-ways-to-pay-as-little-self-employment-tax-as-legally-necessary/ Wish I knew this last year. I would have done it sooner.
  6. Hypothetical: Is it possible to have $12,500 in taxable income (income after deductions for part time job and self employment) yet still owe $3500 to the feds in taxes? My pea brain thinks that seems really high. What am I missing?
  7. How will Chris Carpenter.....you know the rest.
  8. Final Four Predictions: Wisconsin 72 UK 68 Florida 67 UConn 60 In the finals, Florida takes UW 63 - 62
  9. UK's bread and butter on offense is grabbing boards and getting to the line. UW typically limits both. I like this matchup for Wisconsin. They will score on UK.
  10. From an efficiency perspective, they were sort of average compared to how they normally play. Chalk it up to missed free throws and not as many threes as usual.
  11. It's like Baylor never saw a shot fake before. They look completely confused on defense.
  12. I get it, but it's kind of sad that you rush to hire a president in order to hire a basketball coach.
  13. Virginia Tech plays in the ACC too. So why did Buzz make a bad move, but Smart to Wake is better move for him than to Marquette? Regardless, my bet is that Smart is eying the NBA next. That's like coaching at Penn St in the B1G.
  14. I can understand turning down UCLA. 1) Lots of pressure and very high expectations at UCLA, and B) Smart has no knowledge of or experience with recruiting on the West coast. I believe only one of his players at VCU is not from the Eastern time zone, and that guy is from exurban Nashville, TN. He at least has some knowledge of the Midwest landscape and likely has more connections in the Midwest. And like RockCo said, where are the four-star kids from Chicago going to go? The five-star kids will go wherever (Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, etc.), but the four-star kids aren't going to go to DePaul or Northwestern. And Illinois plays in an arena that was built in 1963; Marquette plays in an NBA arena. Not the best NBA arena, but still an NBA arena and way better than the State Farm Center. Where is a recruit going to want to play - an NBA arena, or a "hall" built in 1963? ESPN is reporting that Wake Forest has reached out to Smart too. Just because Wake was successful back in the day of Tim Duncan and Chris Paul means about the same as Marquette playing off of the days of Dwayne Wade. Wake has only been to the tourney twice in the last nine years. Wake plays in the ACC. And coaches that can recruit can recruit anywhere.
  15. Turning down UCLA to coach Marquette does not make sense. Heck, turning down Illinois to coach Marquette does not make sense. Maybe it did in the old Big East but not nowadays.
  16. Smart going to MU makes about as much sense as Buzz to Virginia Tech.
  17. Man that was an entertaining basketball game. Before the brackets came out I questioned whether UW's defense would be good enough to get to the Final Four but maybe their offense can just carry them the whole way? Unreal second half.
  18. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/bal-orioles-cut-minor-league-campers-jack-cust-and-matt-laporta-20140321,0,6484195.story Never really panned out for Matt.
  19. Bracket lines up really well for UW. Oregon and Creighton don't play defense....period. And Creighton relies on shooting threes. Yes, they make a ton but UW's one strength on D is preventing teams from getting off three point shots (or maybe it's because they are too busy driving to the hoop). I will be disappointed if they can't get to the Elite 8....but if some team shoots like MSU did the other day there's not much you can do about it.
  20. ESPN and CBS both have them projected as a 15 seed in their most recent projections (from today). One against Kansas, the other against Syracuse. I stand corrected.
  21. I'd be surprised in UWM is a 15. The Horizon is a decent league. They reserve the 15 and 16 seeds for the Appalachian States of the world.
  22. Jackson might turn it over 4 or 5 times but in general the team is excellent at preventing turnovers. I think VCU would be a decent matchup for Wisconsin because they're so short. I think Frank and Hayes would eat em up down low.
  23. Wow. Too bad they didn't touch on the reasons he left UW.
  24. Nebraska had everything to play for. I'm not surprised at the result. Free throws killed Wisconsin.
  25. Joe Lunardi had Bucky #2 in the South last night after Kansas/Arizona losses. Disappointed in that. If Villanova can get a quick exit somehow in the Big East Tournament and Bucky goes deep, I think Bucky can get the #1 in the Midwest and they'll move Wichita State to the East (Kansas was there, so not that geographically displaced with Wichita State going there). Would you guys rather have a #1 seed and play in Orlando or St. Louis on the opening weekend....or settle for the #2 seed and play in Milwaukee? I'm less concerned with seed and more concerned with who they'll match up against (regardless of seed).
