  1. By the Snappers pitching Baker today, they have evidently decided to go with him as their third pitcher in the playoffs behind Sarfate and Ballouli. Who would have imagined just a few weeks ago?? This is obviously important to note as their first two rounds are only 3 game series. How did Prince get a triple? I didn't even know he had ONE previously. He normally doesn't run hard enough out of the box to complete such a feat.
  2. Bruce, thanks for the chuckle! I forgot about that matter. Maybe, that is why I only last 30-45 minutes while playing tennis against my kids. I'm quite positive age and conditioning wouldn't be factors.
  3. Did you see how the Cubs lost their last two games? Their bullpen hasn't been reliable lately. Dusty is in between a rock and a hard spot.
  4. If someone could please clarify the AFL selection process, MAYBE I could understand the Johnson pick. However, if catcher was our "slot", I would have rather given it to Vandy. As a college graduate, he isn't that much younger than Johnson. Absent of such process, I totally agree about resting Krynzel and playing Weeks.
  5. I'm glad someone vehemently agrees with me on Kade Johnson. So, again, I ask "Why are we wasting a spot on the AFL roster for him?" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  6. Mass Brew, I'm not sure how much to read into that. A member of the Snappers pitching staff told me Wednesday he probably would have been sent home if it weren't so close to the end of the season.
  7. Mike, that is the way d money(no relation) has "rested" Prince throughout the year. Obviously, you always want Prince's bat in the lineup as much as possible. I hope he takes the weekend in Dayton and gives Prince, Gwynn and Bibbs all an entire(no fielding or DH) day off, perhaps on a rotating basis or all on the very last day to rest for the playoffs and the 8 hour journey home. All of the other players have been sufficiently rested.
  8. It is Ok to prematurely declare the Snappers second half champs. Even if they don't beat Clinton tonight or tomorrow to clinch, they get a truly abysmal Dayton team over the weekend. I have seen the Dragons, Lookouts(AA) and the Reds(over the last two nights) and can honestly say Cincinnati is in the same boat we were in a few years ago(barely any talent at any level). I was happy to see d money(no relation) put Crabbe back in the two hole in the lineup. It gives the lineup a little more depth with Weeks batting fifth. I would like to see these five bat in this order throughout the playoffs.
  9. It never ceases to amaze me the detailed information provided by .net contributors. Good call whizkid.
  10. slamotto, I was going to vent my frustrations at length after reading the lineup and before seeing your post. This is utterly ridiculous! I guess it was that fifth plate appearance that did him in. I hate it when a guy is 4-4 and makes an out when the outcome is no longer in jeopardy.
  11. I spoke to him for about 5 minutes before the Saturday game, while he was signing autographs. I asked him how he liked the new angle(2nd base). He said it was fine, but thought he would be getting more playing time at shortstop for the rest of the season. I didn't pry as to whether he was told by Ned or Doug. Just thought I would pass along this potential good news.
  12. With Scar going 5 for 5 in the DH, I was wondering if someone could provide me with some sort of splits on his season(say before & after july 1st). He had an absolutely dreadful start offensively, but has rebounded nicely. I have always admired his defensive capabilities, though I think he is better suited as a major league second baseman than shortstop. As mentioned before, I agree he could be a good utility infielder.
  13. Daryl Clark had over 40 errors as a third baseman of the Snappers a few years ago. The vast majority were of the fielding variety. He CANNOT play third and I agree that he even struggles to play outfield. If he ever makes it to the show, it will be in the other league.
  14. I was at the Sunday game in App-le-ton. Eric Henderson picked off all three players by a healthy distance.
  15. I just wanted to expound on the comments made about the umpiring crew in ******on. I didn't see the Thursday game, but was there for the rest of the weekend. The home plate umpire for the Thursday/Saturday games was abysmal. I think I have some credibility to comment as a former ten-year softball umpire. He was equally bad on the bases. On Friday, a ground ball hopped over the first baseman and clearly hit inside the line and was called foul. On Saturday, it was pretty much Thursday all over again. Rich Sauveur, the Snappers pitching coach, went out to the mound late in the game. He waited for the umpire to come out so he could provide him with some stock tips(or something like that). On Sunday, he deprived Callix Crabbe of making an out on an outstanding play to his right(called safe when out). Travis Hinton put down a perfect sacrifice bunt late in the game. The first baseman dove to tag him. Travis was called out despite no tag. Though it is hard and sometimes downright frustrating, I guess we have to remind ourselves these guys are also minor leaguers.
  16. A Snappers win and a loss by their FOUR closest second-half competitors makes for a wonderful day.
  17. I don't understand management's handling of the Ryan Gripp matter. When we acquired Alejandro Machado, Paz was "promoted" to AAA to essentially make room on the Stars roster at an overcrowded position. Since Wilton Veras isn't exactly tearing up the International League, why couldn't we have made Gripp an Indian on the same basis as Paz. I realize Gripp probably would not have made a huge impact in the future on the big club. By the same token, there is no reason he couldn't have been a solid contributor to the Stars next year as a full time 3b, 1b or corner outfielder next year.
  18. I agree with Moliterfan's assessment of Baker and Hall. At "Meet the Snappers Night," Hall was introduced as the closer. He never really took hold of that place on the staff. Baker was injured early in the season, but definitely is not a hard thrower. I am sure Baker will repeat Beloit.
  19. I'm not sure I agree with the demotion of Adam Heether. He has been a valuable contributor to the Snappers as a backup to Jeff Eure. Just last week, he provided the difference with a three-run homer. I realize infield innings are going to come at a premium when Rickie Weeks arrives. However, IF Heether can play shortstop as indicated in the box score, I have a hard time believing he can be any worse than Chas Terni. He has almost 30 errors and doesn't contribute alot offensively. I say at least give Heether a chance at shortstop. Heck, they gave Keith Bohanon an ill-fated attempt at the position.
  20. I didn't see a mentioning of expulsion in the ESPN article. Maybe, I missed it noted in a different article. I have to admit today was the first time I heard/read anything about this topic. Is it possible that Milledge accepted the "sentence" in lieu of further investigation(similar to a plea bargain). It wouldn't be the last time an athletic program of some sort tried to "bury" a problem. I don't know the whole story so maybe I'm grasping at straws. If I am "all wet" on this particular case, I still agree with the basic concept that these guys need to become more model citizens(at least until the ink is dry on the contract).
  21. Yes, it is a great night in Snapperland. First, Weeks is signed, then the team wins in come-from-behind fashion and then the two closest pursuers(Kane County doesn't count as a result of winning the first half) lose. They have a 5 1/2 game lead over Clinton and a 7/12 game lead over Cedar Rapids and Peoria(who was no-hit by Burlington tonight). Start printing those playoff tickets!!
  22. While it allegedly didn't just happen, I have to agree with BrewDude. I am sure at, if not before, the age of 16 he was being heralded as a possible high round draft pick. After all. BA ranks players at and below this age these days. Whether they like it or not, these guys become public figures before they probably desire to be. They are heavily scrutinized(and rightly so given the team's investment in them) and their "handlers"(in this case parents given his age)need to be proactive in their professional and private lives.
  23. It was a beneficial night for both the Snappers and the Stars as both beat a pursuer and saw other close second-half eligible contenders lose.
