  1. I am actually glad Matt stayed back. There comes a point in time where family is more important. One of my fondest memories of last year's trip to Huntsville was when his son yelled "Daddy!" from the stands as Matt was taking the mound. If you were there, you couldn't help but smile. Matt is a good person and an equally good father.
  2. Good to see someone else agrees with me on Kade, where he needs to start and has yet to prove. I would love to have ten minutes of Doug Melvin's time so we could discuss his inclusion on the 40 man roster.
  3. I think Luis is pretty much a lost cause at the plate. Just focus on chucking the ball big guy!! Your bat will not be what determines if you make or stay in the big leagues.
  4. Can we give some props to Matt Parker?? The guy just needs to be given a role and allowed to stay with it in order to shine. They keep bouncing him from starter and the pen because (a) he has the durability and (b) unlike a lot of athletes, he accepts his swing role and doesn't pout about it. However, it is somewhat a shame he isn't given the same opportunity as other prospects. He was an SL All-Star and has proven himself as a solid contributor at every level to date. He could really use for Hendrickson and Martinez to make the big club some time in 2004 to open some spots in Indy.
  5. Getting back to Machado, does anyone know if he was in a hitter's league prior to coming to the organization. I recall at the time of acquisition I was excited about his doubles total and batting average. However, he looked overmatched during the week I saw him in Huntsville. The way he holds the bat doesn't help his cause. He needs to move his hands back. Anyone with info on him or his league while with the Royals??
  6. Al, I will concede that yours would be my second choice. I think mine has a more genuine smile and bigger "chest muscles".
  7. The second one from the left gets my vote.
  8. Squarepusher, you are amazing. You even know the man's vision. Incredible!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  9. I don't disagree that our TOP prospects should be spared HD. However, I don't think 56.1 innings in A ball with a 4.15 ERA and more hits than innings pitched at his age constitutes the numbers of a top prospect. If nothing else, he should earn his metal at HD and then be promoted. I just don't see the line of a player deserving a two-step promotion.
  10. Actually, Khalid bypassing HD does surprise me. I don't think he did anything at Beloit to merit a two-step jump. First of all, he only pitched part of the season due to injury. Secondly, he never really dominated a start. In fact, one of my criticisms of him would be his inability to put hitters away. I went to a game in App-le-ton this year where I distinctly remember the T-Rats had four two-strike hits in one INNING. He needs to work on and develop an out pitch.
  11. Is the Maysonet who pitched in game one Roberto? If so, he was a Snapper two or three years ago.
  12. That's because, unfortunately, it takes a long time to totally heal from a hamate injury. Although, I have to admit, the power stroke wasn't there prior to the injury. It probably won't be fair to totally judge him until the second half of next year.
  13. Yea, he does stand pretty close to the plate. I remember him getting hit in two consecutive at bats during a Snapper game this year. He took it well the first time, but had to be restrained the second time. Given his athleticism, I would find it hard to believe he has slow reactions. After all, the man has lightning quick hands. It's virtually impossible to have such hands and slow reaction time.
  14. Buddy, I know I never questioned his "stuff" but that is only so good if you can't throw it for strikes(i.e. Miller Park game and App-le-ton playoff game). He just CAN"T be throwing the same. Why? First of all, he is pitching against higher caliber players. Almost all of the players are far better than Jon Nelson(among league leader in K's) of the T-Rats who hit a grand slam bomb off of him that still hasn't fallen from the trees behind the outfield. Secondly, even if we allowed ourselves to think the competition is the same, his ERA in the fall league represents that of a prospect. At his age, his Midwest League ERA was that of a marginal STARTING pitcher. It is definitely possible he is throwing like some point and time in the past BEFORE the Midwest League, but not during it.
  15. Al, Bausher was hitting in the 94-95 range with the Snappers. I can only imagine it is more of a control, rather than velocity, issue. Whatever the reason, the results are bewildering, yet wonderful to see!
  16. This boy has just left me scratching my head for several weeks now. Someone had to teach him something for such an abrupt turnaround.
  17. I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over an AFL game but......why would anyone(especially Frank, who is an organizational guy) bat Weeks eighth in the order?
  18. I don't know that Tekulve would want to say anthing different. As I understand it(and please correct me if I am wrong), we have to pay the organization for his services. Therefore, it would be foolish for him to say he sold us a Yugo when advertised as a Cadillac. Not saying he doesn't have a chance, just trying to lend a little perspective.
  19. Any way of knowing how many of those four stolen bases were against Kade?
  20. I was somewhat surprised by the fact that a manager in an AFL game would intentionally walk someone with two outs. As I mentioned earlier this week, I have never been to an AFL game. I guess I just assumed the manager's main responsibilities were to make sure everyone got work and provide the players with some decent instruction. I thought winning kind of took a backseat to development. In that type of atmosphere, I would think you would want to test the metal of your pitcher against a good hitter. In comparison to a "normal" game, can somehow tell me how much of a part strategy plays in an AFL game?
  21. What's up with Bauscher? Has anyone seen him pitch down there? Has he improved his secondary pitches? The guy has the arm, but usually all you have to do is sit dead red on a straight plane. He was very unimpressive at the end of the year for the Snappers.
  22. Hey Mike, can you give me an idea of the basic AFL environment? Are all games at night? Is there as much pre-game activity(hitting & fielding) as there would be before a normal minor league game? Do you have to pay admission? Do people take fewer chances with their body(diving for balls, breaking up double plays, stealing bases, blowing over catcher at the plate) during these games? Just a few things off the top of my head. Anything else that you can think of that is noteworthy would be appreciated. As you can tell, I've never been to such a game but always wondered about these things.
  23. I'm quite surprised by the release of Jason Baker. He doesn't throw hard enough to make it to the bigs, yet he was probably as good as any Maverick pitcher last year. It will be interesting to see how they round out the High Desert rotation next year.
  24. I'm by no means saying we shouldn't keep Shelley, but are you sure he throws in the 90's. I went to a Stars game in Chatanooga where they have a scoreboard type gun(like App-le-ton). He didn't register at 90 or above for the whole game. Just asking!
  25. I brought this up on another thread and never got an answer. I was just curious if someone knew the "inner-workings" of the AFL. For instance, why are we playing with the organizations we are playing with this year that are different from last year? How is it decided which organization sends a catcher while another a shortstop? Is there a "bidding process" for positions, much like a draft? Any help would be much appreciated. P.S. I hate to wish or hope ill-will on any of our players, but I can't help but think that both Bausher and Johnson are going to be WAY over their heads in this league. Neither excelled in their league when everyone wasn't a prospect. Bausher can be somewhat justified in that if you could get him to control his secondary pitches, he MIGHT have a chance. But, Kade Johnson who drew comparisons to Mike Kremblas. Please.
