  1. His ERA since the beginning of 2015 is an awesome 1.14. If that's not worth at least a look with a pitching staff like this one, what is?
  2. I tried to grab as many names as I can to compare. How is it decided when a player is ready to go? I see innings all across the boards here. All of these guys have had plenty of enough success to be deemed ready to go. I guess my point is I feel as though a lot of times we waste a lot of good years with these pitchers in the minor leagues. I couldn't agree with you more. By the way, add Carlos Rodon, age 23 with 159 innings in the minors, currently in MLB to your list. For now I'd be looking at flip flopping Peralta and Thornburg. Thornburg has the pitches to be a starter and was excellent down the last month of 2013. Hopefully Smith and Knebel will be back and what is Magnifico doing still at AAA? Bring up Hader. He's still raw but he's got the best stuff in the entire organization. Start stretching out Thornburg by piggybacking him with Peralta. Send down Jungmann. Bring up Magnifico to pitch the 7th, and slot Blazek in the 8th for now. Bring up Barnes as well. Release Freeman and either Capuano or Torres. Draft a college pitcher with the 5th pick and put him on track to be in Milwaukee by 2018.
  3. Last I checked attendance was down about 3,000 a game from last year so you are not alone though we know the Cub fans will fill it up a bunch of times.
  4. They are doing him and the team no favors by starting him every 5 days. It's time to go back to AAA. Lopez is scheduled to start tonight. He'd fit right in the rotation. Even though his results have been poor so far, we've seen guys struggle there and come up and do okay.
  5. Considering his cheap contract and his controllability through 2018, it all depends on whether you think this is a career year or not. If you think it is, yeah you sell high. If you think he's just a perfect fit in Miller Park and will hit you close to 40 HR for another year or two, hold on to him. He'll still have value if you want to deal him later if that's the case.
  6. Perez has much more of a track record than Walsh and he's a year and a half younger. Walsh has patience and a great eye. That's his lone skill. It's taken him until his age 26 to make the big leagues where he's 1 for 19.
  7. Rivera will need to get regular AB's at some point anyway. When Scooter comes off the DL, Rivera will go down to AAA. If Walsh continues to only draw the occasional walk, he might just be gone too. It's not like he's a kid who's a top prospect. Perez has been swinging a hot bat at AAA and is the right call to be brought up if they had the roster room. If Rivera hadn't had such a hot spring or Walsh taken in the rule 5, Perez would have been a no-brainer. As for Hill, his metrics say he's been about as unlucky as possibly be. He's hit the ball hard to no avail though he does have 3 sac flies. He'll be here until they find a team needed a veteran in July or August.
  8. He's shown decent on base skills in the past. It's a good sign he's getting some hits after hitting just .213 last year. He's far from the best infield option they have at AAA though. But he's the only one other than Arcia that's currently on the 40 man.
  9. Brewers aren't back in Chicago until August. Both teams have off days on the 15th, the Monday prior to the scheduled series starting. It's conceivable a current Brewer player could be in a Cub uniform by then and vice- versa.
  10. If Scooter has to go on DL, can we assume Cecchini will get a call and play some 3B (along with Walsh and Rivera) while Hill does most of the work at 2B in Scooter's absence? The other options, Elmore and Perez are both hitting well but neither are on 40 man. Cecchini has been making good contact too, with just 6 K's.
  11. Charlie Morton is out for the year with a torn hamstring on that play where he stumbled running to first over the weekend. Last year it was Wainwright tearing his Achilles and missing most of the year. In 2014, Joe Kelly, then with the Cards, pulled a hamstring running after crossing the bag at first and missed two months.
  12. I was at the games...He over-runs balls turning singles into doubles and triples. Fields balls then drops the ball. Runs in on balls over his head and takes bad routes to balls. That sums it up. Maybe it will motivate him to play better getting called out by opposing team...still doesn't make it right. Have to ask, what were scouts seeing in this guy before they traded for him? He certainly passes the eyeball test athletically, but that level of play at almost 26? Was it just an incredibly bad day?
  13. If you read the Astros' sites, they might well be trying to unload him now. There are voices that sound like they are about to give up on him and cut their losses. They know they got snookered. The longer he stays and doesn't produce, it just increases the pain. Plus they have guys ready. The way Carlos has not been producing, it's likely no team will look at him as a starter in FA this winter. If he'd be happy coming off the bench in Milwaukee as opposed to anywhere else, why not?
  14. OK, Brewers are just going with filler in CF this year. Gomez has been terrible this year and since the trade and Astros are losing patience with him fast. Probably wouldn't take much but a very insignificant prospect plus taking on the $7 million or so left on his contract to get him back. Concerns are his leg issues have caught up with him. Maybe he just never felt comfortable in Houston? Brewers certainly have salary room to take him back. Suppose a return to Miller Park sparks him? Would it be possible to deal him again? Stearns was on the other side of what might be turning out to be Melvin's best deal ever. Would he consider it? Wait and see if he's released? Hey don't beat me up for this suggestion, it's an off day and just having some fun with some "what ifs". We know Carlos loves Milwaukee and was a very popular Brewer.
  15. Guessing we'll see both in Milwaukee by August 1 assuming Lucroy is dealt and they find a taker for Hill. Sooner if an injury occurs.
  16. Other than Hill, who's hit in incredible bad luck and still gives them a professional AB consistently, Maldonado, who's playing time is sporadic, and whoever's been in CF, the rest of the everyday lineup has exceeded expectations. It's actually a positive that what's separating them from being a good team so far lies almost entirely in one group, and that's the starting pitching and there's at least some hope that can be fixed at least partially from within. We know Peralta's better than he's been and that Davies showed in September that he can pitch up here and Anderson's at least capable of some good efforts. Some improvement there and they'll certainly be watchable most of the year, unless they deal off more than just Lucroy and Hill in July and the lineup gets completely gutted. I'm hoping against hope that a Lucroy deal will bring back a bona fide major league ready starter with some ability so that the final two months we'll actually see improvement even minus an All Star quality catcher. There for all of you that think I'm always being negative!!
  17. The pool of ex-players still in the area must not be very deep. Augustine's my age for goodness sake. You have to be in your late 40's to remember his playing days. August started with great promise (4th in ROY voting in 1988), but was not good after that one season. Brewers gave up veteran Danny Darwin to get him and Mark Knudson from Astros in a move meant to build for the future. Sound familiar? Darwin continued to be a very good pitcher after that, leading the NL in ERA in 1989, and pitching mostly as a starter until he was 42. Knudson had one so-so year as a starter in 1990 but like August was out of baseball long before Darwin was.
  18. Can we assume Hernan Perez (.450 in his last 10 games) is looking pretty good? Manny Pina also?
  19. Last paragraph of Haudricourt's story is most interesting. Why not Madison?
  20. Fulmer will only be available if he struggles big time all year and a good portion of the the luster comes off him. Besides, I don't believe the Sox catching situation is as dire as it looks. Navarro and Avila are off to bad starts, but between them, they form a decent combo. One caveat, and that's Jacob Turner. He was once a very highly regarded prospect and he's now White Sox property at Charlotte. Injuries, and poor performance have derailed him, but he's been dominant in 3 AAA starts in 2016. He's not yet 25. If he's still dealing in July, that would be a guy the Sox might well be willing to give up for Lucroy.
  21. He'll likely be very tradeable but the salary prevents the kind of return in talent that really is going to make a difference down the road. Oh they would get a decent prospect but we're talking about a guy, who if not for PEDs, is putting up a HOF worthy career. Getting back a guy who projects as a 3-4 starting pitcher or who's best case projection is average major league regular, is not fair value. For most teams unloading a big salary like Braun's is a huge part of the return, but this team's payroll is so low right now that shedding salary isn't or shouldn't be a top priority. Braun might start to tail off in 2-3 years but he's still likely to be fairly productive through 2020. I assume they are planning on being competitive by 2018 or 2019 at the latest. No reason a Braun in his mid 30's can't still be contributing in a fairly big way. Then his salary will come off the books, enabling them to try and lock up the best of the young crop.
  22. Why does every Brewer fan on here get offended when someone disagrees with this management? I didn't like the hire of a pitching coach with no major league experience. Yes it's only 18 games but pointing out that it's one of the worst 18 game pitching stretches ever for this franchise (and I've seen every one since 1970), is trolling or that bringing up the advantages of experience in an important job is out of line?? Really, the site is BrewerFAN.net, not blindsupportofbrewers.net.
  23. Brewers are on pace to have their worst ever pitching numbers. Meanwhile Brewer staff is headed by a guy who made his name coaching top recruits at Vanderbilt.
  24. What do they have to lose at this point? Why not take a flyer on Lincecum? He can't be worse than what they are putting out there and if he's decent, teams will line up to get him in a couple months.
  25. H. Perez with 10 hits in his last 3 games for SkySox!
