  1. I don't know much about camcorders but I have a consumer reports subscription so I thought I'd look into it for you. Their highest rated HD camcorders in your price range of around $500 are: Canon Vixia HF200- $550. They give it a "very good" in picture quality, ease of use and image stability and a "good" in low-light picture quality and audio quality. They gave this a "Recommended" rating. It has a 15x optical zoom, a 2.7 inch lcd screen and 60 minutes of battery life. It also has a built-in light and a microphone jack. It weighs 1 pound. Sony HDR-CX100- $430. They give it an "excellent" in picture stability, a "very good" in picture quality, a "good" in low-light picture quality, and "fair" in ease of use and audio quality. They gave this a "Best Buy" rating. It has a 10x optical zoom, a 2.7 inch lcd screen and 90 minutes of battery life. It weighs .73 pounds. Both models record on flash memory and they were the 2 "best values" among HD flash memory models. The Canon was rated slightly higher overall.
  2. What? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I guess following in George Lopez's footsteps was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
  3. The March of Dimes is an interesting charity. It's one of the few charities that reached their goal (obviously, it's impossible for many charities to reach their goal, I'm not criticizing charities, just want to make that clear). They were founded to try to eradicate polio and they succeeded (with the help of Jonas Salk). Rather than shutting their doors, in the late 1950's they changed their mission to the elimination of birth defects. Sorry to hear about your cousin. I hope things go well for her.
  4. Nice work by Casey. Relief is the dominant emotion for me after that, but I wasn't that worried about them actually losing yet.
  5. The Tigers game has been over for awhile. Also, I thought I heard that they were only expecting to fill Ford Field halfway, which would mean there is probably a lot of empty parking versus what it looks like during a Lions game.
  6. I think I might be too pessimistic to watch hockey. Every time the other team scores I get way too dejected. Same reason I don't necessarily enjoy watching soccer much. The scores are sometimes so rare that it makes even a 1 goal lead seem insurmountable. I know that that isn't the case but I can't help feeling like that whenever I watch a hockey or soccer game. So now the next 2 periods seem like they will be a slow march to an inevitable loss and I don't really want to keep watching. However, I know the Badgers have some come from behind wins this year, even against good teams, so I don't really know why I'm so fatalistic about this.
  7. The Ilitch family has a ton of cash and owns a bunch of casinos. I doubt losing that much affects them in any way so I think "disaster" is probably too strong a word. If they don't mind losing money, I don't see what the problem is.
  8. I only really noticed the 2nd one (I was doing other stuff during the game) and that one would have been tough for any catcher to stop. Kottaras was set up on the 1st base side of the plate and the pitch bounced way on the 3rd base side. He never was able to get in front of it (although he tried) and I don't think many catchers would have been able to.
  9. Nice title. I think this was posted here a couple years ago though.
  10. MLB trade rumors posted a link to a tweet from Haudricourt that says: "Brewers are believed to be closing in on contract extension with RHP Yovani Gallardo." If true, it seems like good news, assuming the dollars aren't outrageous. Every pitcher is a risk to some extent but if a team is going to compete, it needs to have a couple good pitchers. It seems that a long-term deal to a pitcher is just a risk that a team has to take every once in awhile.
  11. The Brewers trio was broken up after 1992 when Gantner retired. Molitor also left in free agency after that year but it's been well documented that the Brewers thought he was nearing the end and not worth much money. Yount retired the next year. So, I don't think it's fair to imply that the Brewers trio was broken up because of a lack of money. Also, free agency didn't even exist until 1975 so no team would have had to worry about a rich team signing their players until then.
  12. Maybe. On the other hand, it's hard to be upset about the breaking of a record that I would bet most people didn't know existed. At least, I didn't know that the Brewers held this record or that it was something people paid attention to. I wonder who has the record for the longest a quartet of players stayed together? A quintet?
  13. You aren't looking hard enough.
  14. What's with the reflexive player/agent bashing?Dye isn't signed because he's asking for more money than anyone else thinks he's worth. Seems like a fair statement.Implying a guy is "crazy" because he would rather do other things with his time than work for the league minimum is fair? I guess I disagree with your concept of fair. Dye may be asking for what seems to be an unrealistic amount but maybe he's decided it's not worth it for him to play unless he gets a certain amount of money. He's only making the same kind of calculation that everybody in the world makes every day but he's singled out as being off his nut? I don't get that.
  15. This is a shame. One of my favorite players is cut in order to make room for one of my least favorite. Hopefully Mike can catch on somewhere.
  16. Wait, what? I haven't heard about this, what happened?
  17. Yeah, but that didn't happen. I would be shocked if Braun didn't feel at least some remorse about signing the contract he signed. That's not to say I think he'll do anything about that feeling or hold a grudge over it. He was probably smart to sign the deal that he did but he also probably cost himself at least $50 million (conservative estimate, imo) by doing so. It would be only natural for him to think about what he could do with that extra money.
  18. I'll be optimistic and say I'm most excited for Prince hitting 60 home runs. Otherwise, I'm just excited in general to watch baseball again.
  19. I disagree. If you just go by ERA, Villanueva is over a run better in his career than McClung. It's the same story with xFIP. McClung fares relatively better by FIP but he's still .87 runs behind Carlos by that measure. I think Carlos is significantly better than Seth.

  21. I agree with AJAY. I think Haudricourt and Witrado are fine. They've both grown on me. They aren't standouts but I don't think they're especially bad either. If you read the writers for a lot of teams you'll find many guys who are extremely contemptuous of the sport, players, and/or fans. Despite some sarcasm now and then from TH and AW, I don't get that vibe from them.
  22. Saving Private Ryan is kind of weak except for a few great scenes, imo. A lot of people nominate The Thin Red Line as the best Pacific war film but I've never gotten around to seeing it.
  23. HBO put the whole first episode up on their site. I know some people were asking about where to watch it. h/t: tvbythenumbers
  24. Seems pretty promising so far.
