  1. Suffice to say that I disagree and think he is better than that, despite his poor performance in 450 ABs so far. There is no reason he can't be league average or better. And what's with this dividing the league into good and bad teams? That's not really how it works. Many good teams are running absolutely terrible players out there at power positions. Look at the Dodgers with Pierre playing LF. Or the Angels with Gary Matthews DHing and Garret Anderson in right or the Twins with an outfield of suck in Delmon Young (who seems to be finally turning it around a bit), Carlos Gomez, and Michael Cuddyer. The Rangers have gotten terrible production out of 1st base. Gary Sheffield appears to be totally washed up as Detroit's DH, Gabe Gross and Cliff Floyd are less than inspiring in Tampa, Melky Cabrera has been horrible for the Yanks, the Mets are stuck using Endy Chavez, Geoff Jenkins has been terrible for Philly, Chris Young is atrocious in Arizona, etc.

  5. He's lived there for more than a decade and is out past midnight most nights. It wasn't even an armed robbery, my brother's friend is soft and he gave his stuff up when a guy asked for it because he was afraid of getting attacked. That's a common tactic in that neighborhood (plus some others as well), for people to ask you can they try on some of your clothes (jacket, hat, etc.) or listen to your CD player/iPod with the intention of running off with it. It can't work too often, but the idea seems to be that people are too stupid or scared to refuse.
  6. My brother's best friend lives right across the street from that hotel. His friend has only been robbed over there once, and that was outside of the Rave (which is on 24th, btw). The hotel itself doesn't look all that nice to me, but I wouldn't be too worried about staying there, anymore than I would be about staying at any fleabag hotel. I spent much of my life in that neighborhood and it's not significantly worse than most of Milwaukee. I 2nd Patrick425 on it being a nexus of prostitution though, but really, what hotel isn't? (On a related note, I used to see a wheelchair bound pimp on 27th and Wells (the street north of Wisconsin) all the time, can't be too many of those.)
  7. Laynce Nix's OPS is 300 (yes, 300) points worse than Cruz's in AAA this year. Oklahoma is better for hitters than Nashville is, but still, that is a huge difference. I think Cruz can still be a starter in the majors, while I see Nix as more of a 4th-5th outfielder.

  16. I don't like this cliche. People always say it about sports but there is little evidence that any of these sports were invented by children or intended solely for children. The only big sport that has a known inventor, basketball, was invented by a man for other men (college track athletes) to play. Since at least 1845, grown men have organized themselves into organized teams in order to play baseball. Since 1857 there has been some form of organizational oversight of the game. Soldiers played during the Civil War and men have been paid to play baseball for almost 150 years. If it did begin as a "children's game", it hasn't been one for a long time, since the time of our great-great-great grandparents.
  17. I don't think Cruz has proven he's a 4A player by any stretch of the imagination. He's got terrible ML numbers but they were accumulated in less than 500 plate appearances spread over 3 seasons. Somebody will give him a shot, and I think he deserves it. He's got the best OPS in AAA this year (Branyan is #2), he's got 24 steals (only 7 CS) and he's a good defender with a good arm. All in all, he'd be a very attractive player if not for the horrible 2007 he had in Texas.
