    I agree that Cruz will have beaucoup value this trade deadline or next, and the second they forfeited is more than complemented by this year's haul of Sample/Mellville/Montgomery/Hosmer. If Cruz puts up another season like he had this past year, I would think they could get a top 100 prospect, which is more than they could probably net in the year's draft. But the biggest winner has to be the AZ D-Bax. They get a supp. 1st and a second rounder.

    Wasn't there a rumor that he did some activity that is very dangerous during the offseason? I remember last year's offseason, that some gent speculated that a friend of his told him Yovani was into bull-fighting or sky-diving....something the gent couldn't believe a young phenom would do. Perhaps the Brewers are writing some language into the contract that negates some of their repsonsibility if he gets injured in said activity. My money is still on bull-fighter....as it is pretty dangerous when Elaine Benes is your groupie (She's liable to hurt you with her "kicks").

    In the last week, the Pistons have been beaten by the Bucks and the Magic have been beaten by the Bulls. So instead of seeing Sessions abuse CP3, we get to see Stuckey abuse Alston? Another notch in ESPN's fabled belt of good times. If only we had made Bill Simmons our GM.

    I would think face value is face value. I could probably gwet Pirate tix for $1 per ticket but the face would say $12+. Face value is whatever is written BY THE TEAM on the face.

    I think the Brewers would have preferred he begin at 2B but weren't there murmurs that he was eager to sign with the Brews because they originally told him he could catch. Thus, it's good to see that Lawrie is behind this decision. So does that mean Zarraga is going to be the catcher at A-Town next year?

    Well how many fastballs in the entire Cards' system can match JJ's? And I would put my greenbacks on Motte being the closer by year's end. He reminds me of Carlos Marmol.

    Anyone ever see "Puddle Cruiser"? It's the original Broken Lizard movie. "Traci with an 'I'? So not only is it a firsty-firsty, it's a firsty-firsty girly-girly." But seriously, I think a better thread would be, "Who at Brewerfan sticks out as being completely dense?" The users are few and far between. Brewerfan is like that hip liberal arts school where they encourage free thought and the bullies are the ones who are the outcasts. Unfortunately, I've always been a bully.

    Don't you also have to factor in the buyout on the option? And honestly, considering the Yanks were the team most interested in him, and the complete lack of CF's on the market who play a serviceable (I'm looking at you, Jimmy E.) CF while maintaining an OPS of .800+, he should very well have gotten $10M. The reason the rest of the outfield market fell how it has is because there really isn't much that differentiates one OF from the next. Pat Burrell v. Adam Dunn (OPS hounds with questionable defense). Raul Ibanez v. Robbie Abreu (Over-the-hill OPS hounds). Milton Bradley v...the World (Paranoid OPS hound). Where is the OPS hound with the gold glove defense, who also is a clubhouse leader. Ibanez, who left Seattle as quickly as he could once his contract expired? RFK Abreu whose Phils were willing to PAY the Yanks to take off their hands? Pat the Bat who...well he's from the U. Dunn, the same guy who was letting it be known through his teammaters that he expected nine figures? The board game? Would it be better to field an OF of: Braun-Cameron-Hart or Ibanez-Hart-Braun I know which way our pitchers lean in this debate.

    Also if we don't keep Morlan, he's as good as gone, unless we work out a deal with the Rays for him. That's why I could see us giving him more of a chance than Julio. But Gagne would seem to be all but assured of a roster spot now.

    I'm only watching the box score but really, this game is looking disgusting. Given that the Bowels beat the Nugz in their last game with only 8 men, you can't really draw a lot of concrete conclusions, but really, a nucleus of CV and Sessions would be like building your house on stone, as opposed to the quicksand of a foundation "Man who should be Bill Simmons" inherited.

    I say we make Lawrie into a Chone Figgins-type. 3B/2B/C/LF/RF....and 1B if you were really in a jam, but he is a bit on the short side for it. 63-75% of the positions on the field could be played by LaBat Blue (I'm going to continue to call him that until it catches on).

    So if both players were to command the same contract, who would people rather see us lock up, Sessions or CV? I'm firmly entrenched in CV's corner, but I could see the argument for Sessions. Seriously, the lack of an RJ deal really killed our future it seems.

    I'm in for: Hoffman Villy McClung Riske Gagne LOOGy Morlan/Coffey I would think the first five are pretty fluid (Gagne should and will get a spot), while the last two are the questions.

    Much like when the Suns sold the Luol Deng pick to the Bulls, we could be forced to sell off our pick to preserve our paycheck from the league for being below the cap. As for CV/Sessions, I'm torn between which I would rather keep. The Sessions situation reminds me of the original Gilbert Arenas situation with the Warriors. They're too burdened by contracts to sign their restricted free agent and I have the feeling there's a team lying in the weeds ready to pounce. With Villy, I would rather keep him. He could be Tim Thomas, but I would say he's more an amalgamation of Dirk and LaMarcus Aldridge.

    Just about to post that. Am I disappointed? Yeah. Do I think they made the right move given what was being offered and what was being asked? Definitely. Do I think we'll lose Sessions and/or CV after this season? Inevitably.

    From what I gather, RJ is staying. The hang-up with the Blazers was over the Bucks including a first (or Sessions). I doubt the Spurs could put together a package for RJ without breaking up their nucleus and/or "team". As for the Cavs? Could still happen but do we really want it to happen? With Portland, we were getting back pieces (Outlaw and Rodriguez) on top of the expiring deal (with all the contrat being paid). With Cleveland, all they can give us would be Wally (who we still would have to pay) and maybe Boobie or Sideshow Bob.

    I saw last night's game and all I could think was, "Thank you, RJ, for upping your value enough at the deadline." He scores 30+ per night while we lose, assuring us of being sellers today. We couldn't sell while we were on a winning streak. But now, we're L1, and hopefully know CV's and Sessions' asking prices in advance.

    I'm a fan of Gagne, never really booing him, though there were times I obviously had my doubts (so the same could be said of Torres). Nevertheless, I like that for all intents and purposes, our bullpen is seriously solidified. Lots of options, and three of the best relief changeups in the majors. Good times. And as an aside, what are the chances that Gagne pitches well enough to preserve his Type B designation? Given the more palatable contract, we could very easily offer him arbitration next year (as opposed to this year when the best we could have hoped for was $8M+.

    I would think the only avenue for ridding ourselves of Danny Gadz would be Ramon Sessions, which I'm not prepared to do.
