  1. Sheets will dominate today, there isn't anybody on Arizona's team that he should be that worried about. What I'm looking forward to is the great ovation Richie will get. He is a class act.
  2. There's a chance the Crew could get 6 players for nothing, if the D-Backs continue to play this terribly and have to deal Richie at the deadline to a contender. Beating Dessens is crucial, he has been pretty successful against the Brewers in the past so that may be tough. I'm not sure what the D-Backs are sending out on the hill on Wed and Thurs (Unit and Webb?), but hopefully they can take two out of three and get back on track. StL coming to town on the weekend isn't that great and is definitely beatable as we saw in the opening series, then they play the likes of Cincy, Pittsburgh, Mets, and Montreal - the Crew has a good shot at sticking around and being a bit of a pest.
  3. I think they can definitely pull a .500 season and maybe contend for 3rd with StL (their pitching is almost as bad as the Crew's). I think that after this rough stretch to be 6-8 is a pretty good accomplishment, but they can definitely do better. Struggling against the likes of Houston, SF, Cubs, and so on is a given, but they have to beat the chump teams like AZ, Cincy, Pittsburgh, etc. Lets see what they can do.
  4. When was the last time The Rocket faced the Crew? Was it the classic Woodard debut in which he pitched one-hit ball against the Blue Jays at County in 1997? That's the last time I can remember.
  5. Estelle Getty or Bea Arthur? The answer is Betty White!
  6. I think Capuano has a much better shot at taming the Astros line-up than Davis had. He actually has a change-up, unlike Davis who basically throws 80 cutters and 20 straight fastballs. I've got a feeling this will be a low scoring affair.
  7. I don't think anyone said anything about taking Po out of the line-up.
  8. It has to be Kinney considering the fact that Obie threw the SO the other day in SF. It it just me or is Kinney's season this year eerily similar to Rusch's 2003 campaign? When will he be sent down to Indy to "work things out"?
  9. Burba, Burba, Burba. Put him in the rotation. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Kinney is John Snyder's brother from another mother. As a side note, Jim Powell read my e-mail (Brett from Eland, WI) about Burba being put into the rotation - he said its a possibilty but since they won't need a 5th SP for awhile they probably won't put him there. Maybe a spot start once in a while. How can you waste the guy with mop-up stints when his ERA is under 1.00 and he has a winning record as a starter over his career?
  10. I still wonder why they haven't moved Jenkins there yet. There was talk that they were trying it during spring training. It may be getting close to the time for Grieve to do something significant, or to sit. At least you don't have to worry about steroids with him, that ball he hit off Oswalt was the hardest I've seen him hit one and it didn't even make the track.
  11. Hopefully no hangover from last night's game. They should be able to beat up on Duckworth pretty well - he has a 12.15 ERA in one start and 6 2/3 innings against the Crew, as well as 2 HR and 3 ER in a one inning relief stint earlier this season. Kinney on the otherhand, has not been so terrible against Houston. This is a very winable game, and the Crew needs to do it.
  12. I don't think that Podsednik has the arm to play RF, but of course neither do Clark or Grieve. I think they might as well stick with him out there. If he takes his fielding as seriously as he does his hitting and baserunning, he'll improve and at least be adequate.
  13. Oswalt was unhittable, oh well at least Doug pitched a nice, gritty game. Bennett also continued to impress - he's really a hell of a pickup so far. I definitely say tomorrow looks like a good night to give Grieve a night off, as well as play Helms at first and Ginter at third. We'll hope Kinney can throw a quality game.
  14. Chances are that Doug will pitch well tonight. Most likely Berman won't take him deep again, considering the fact that he is terrible against lefties - .261 BA (not terrible), .409 SLG (terrible) and only 11 of his 129 career HR's. Hopefully Davis will pitch well enough to be able to pitch around Hidalgo whenever possible, and be careful to Bagwell / Kent.
  15. They need to score first just like they did last night, and with the way Podsednik and Counsell are playing right now thats a pretty good possibility. Doug's ready for a good start.
  16. Duckworth is terrible, and the Crew has struggled with knuckleballers since spring when they faced Sparks, and they couldn't get a hit against Cody McKay for two innings in StL. So this is actually probably a lucky break.
