  1. What a thrill for Gamel...awesome. Not bad either to have the two big guns greeting you at home.
  2. Probably right that they wouldn't consider it, but that's a very intriguing thought.
  3. Weeks has been one of the better defenders YTD. According to Fangraphs, he's #2 in UZR among 2B. That may not have been sustainable, but it's a big blow to what has been a very good defensive team so far this year.
  4. I feel horrible talking about this while we're in mourning for Rickie...I feel so bad for that kid. However, I agree with this. The commitment to Gamel starts now.
  5. Curse you baseball gods...haven't we suffered enough!!!
  6. In the end, let's say 190 IP, 12-12, 4.63, 1.43 If that is our fifth starter...we're in good shape (ignore the fact he's our best paid pitcher). There aren't many in MLB that will have a #5 that post league average stats like that. My biggest concern is will he break down at the end like he did last year.
  7. It's an interesting debate we've had about Manny on the site. I think we all agree Manny has that solid #2 starter potential which our team really needs. He's shown that potential at times, and he's also been frustrating with some letdowns either later in the game (3rd time through the lineup or when his pitch count gets up there) or in crucial situations when an ace needs to make a pitch. The disagreement seems to center on the cause of the letdowns - is it mental, physical, or is it just the maturation process of a young pitcher? I tend to think it's a little of all of them. Reading between the lines of comments from Yost, Macha and Manny himself, I think he's had some issues controlling his emotions and focusing at key moments. I've felt at times he's been mentally soft. That's my opinion and certainly not a proven fact. I also don't know if that just part of being a young pitcher and he will naturally mature over time. Yesterday was very interesting. I was screaming my head off to take him out a couple batters before he finally got out of the 6th. His pitch count was over 100 and he was laboring. He then walked a guy on 4 straight. Macha's comments after the game mentioned he felt it was something Manny needed to do...to get over that hump in effect. It was like he knew he was gassed, but wanted Manny to test himself...either physically or mentally. I thought it was crazy at the time, but maybe Macha was looking farther down the road. Macha seemed to think Manny passed the test with those last two fastballs that were well located.
  8. How can they disgrace that hallowed St. Louis ground by UNTUCKEMing themselves!!!
  9. Here's my prediction for Kendall's 2000th hit - He hammers one as hard as he can, back to the mound when the Happy Youngster runs on the field and grabs the ball right before the pitcher fields it. The official scorer rules it a hit. Happy then asks for a ball, a bat, Bill Hall's chew can, a date with Braun's girlfriend and to be selected by the Brewers no later than the third round in next month' draft.
  10. This is why the Cards are still in trouble when they get their stud hitters back. Worst bullpen of the 4 contenders in the Central by far.
  11. I've had some issues with Manny's mental state at times, but this instance had nothing to do with that. If anything he showed me something there by hanging in there. That was a manager keeping a gassed pitcher out there with runners on and better options in the pen. His spot in the order wasn't even coming up. Macha has been solid this year, but I disagree with him leaving Manny out there.
  12. Hall seemed to cool off after that 1 inning stint in LF in Cincy. Between sitting out with the hammy and losing some time to Counsell he hasn't gotten his groove back. Either that or he just reverted to his natural mean, but he was hitting righties at an acceptable rate before that.
  13. That is nuts. I can't believe Joe Maddon let that happen! He just hit a 2 out RBI double too.
  14. From Jack Clark on the Cards postgame show (Referring to Trevor Hoffman)..."What a class act he is. You don't see him pulling his uniform out at the end of the game 'cause he respects that uniform that he's wearing." This show was live from a casino...now that's class.
  15. Uke said Yo will slot into his normal spot on Wednesday. Now we'll have a shot against Wandy.
  16. I'm ready to start PH'ing a pitcher for Kendall if he can't even drop a bunt.
  17. C'mon Kendall...if you can barely get over the Mendoza line at least be able to drop a bunt. Cost us a run.
  18. Wow...ok, someone let us know how good was the play by Hardy. WTG Soup!
