  1. I don't have a huge beef with leaving Hall in. It was a tie game, it would have burned a few bench players...and Billy has got to be able to perform in that situation. A move was probably a neutral. The Turnbow thing is another matter. The guy was gassed, which really became evident after the walks. It still would have been an effort for anyone, including Cordero to get out of it, but it was obvious T-bow was done. I believe a large portion of Turnbow's blowups can be traced to overuse. I realize there have been times when options were limited this year and Ned had to go with T-bow on no rest...but not yesterday.
  2. Anyone know Vargas' status in case Bush implodes? I'd hate to see Cappy...that's like throwing the white falg.
  3. That was great to see those Brewer fans out in force in Cincinnati...way to carry the torch!!! I've been seeing a lot more Brewer interest this year right from the start. I was out at the Brewer/Dodger game this year and saw more Brewer fans than I have ever seen at Dodger Stadium by a long shot...and it wasn't just the owner's contingent. I was also at the Badger/UNLV game. It wasn't surprising to see the huge number of Badger fans...it was to see some of them wearing Brewer caps!!! There were more than a few Brewer jerseys in the sports book on Friday and Saturday. All aboard!!!
  4. I've certainly got my problems with Ned...however, at some point guys have to step up and make plays. While our pitching has been suspect, our defense is a big contributor to their problems. If our D makes some plays today...it doesn't even come down to Aquino. Our D has contributed to extra hits, runs and losses. Plus, it has put an added strain on our pitchers. If our D is at least average...we're in first right now. We've got one-two every day starters who are at least average. The rest range from below average to downright dangerous.
  5. No doubt RU...just look at the improvement by Weeks. To me, it all started with better discpiline at the plate. He started getting walks, it translated into getting better pitches to hit and now he's got the whole package going. His eye at the plate has been terrific of late. Braun lacks discpline sometimes, but he's young and he's Braun. Even Hardy & Hart have their moments, but are overall solid. Mench, Jenks, Hall...too much Rob Deer/Jose Valentin IMO. I'd like to see one of those spots replaced with an OBP guy. Maybe Gross is our guy.
  6. My frustration with Yost is he's getting whipsawed all over the place. He's got to be consistent. If he wants to be like Harvey Kuenn, just set the lineup and let the chips fall where they may...fine. If he wants to juggle the lineup endless ways to eke out that extra percentage point...fine. That may be the right approach with this young club. Make a choice and be consistent. Don't go through all this movement and then at a critical juncture, go against it and not pinch hit for Mench. Be consistent. In the end, it may not have mattered. The Brewer hitters have been woeful late in the game in clutch situations. They had numerous chances to bury Lilly early as well and let him off the hook. This team is packed full of good hitters, but they need another disciplined high OBP guy in the lineup.
  7. VS RH Weeks-2B Hardy-SS Braun-3B Fielder-1B Hart-CF - could work @ 2, 5, 6 Gross-RF - needs to play for Hall v. RH Jenkins-LF - get to 5 if he starts to light up Estrada-C - he's so slow he's got to be 8 Pitcher VS LH Weeks-2b Hardy-SS Braun-3B Fielder-1B Hart-RF Hall-CF Mench-LF Estrada-C Pitcher
  8. At this point he's a one-two batter guy. Great velocity, but no movement. He can go 98-100 for 1-2 batters, but 95 with no movement is very hittable in the big leagues. If he can develop some movement and improve his control, he could be very valuable...but he's not there yet. Seems like a good Melvin-esque flyer.
