  1. This just through me for a loop. Just read in the Daily Herald that the Cubs signed Gorzelanny to a 1 yr deal yesterday. Then I read this that he was traded yesterday. Wondering what funketown was smokin' Then went to cubs.com and apparently he was traded while he was being signed. Wierd. Yeah I'd say this is most definitely a futures deal. Kind of ambivelant about it.
  2. OK I'm languishing. You are savoring. Actually I typed in haste, realized it was the wrong word, left it alone because I didn't think anybody would make a big deal out of it, and then tried to make it work. I apologize only to Mr Penfield, my Freshman English teacher (who more than likely has been dead for 20 years).
  3. ...that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.Actually definitions 5 and 6 do apply. lan·guish[lang-gwish] –verb (used without object) 1. to be or become weak or feeble; droop; fade. 2. to lose vigor and vitality. 3. to undergo neglect or experience prolonged inactivity; suffer hardship and distress: to languish in prison for ten years. 4. to be subjected to delay or disregard; be ignored: a petition that languished on the warden's desk for a year. 5. to pine with desire or longing. 6. to assume an expression of tender, sentimental melancholy. Funketown your sarcasm is well noted. BTW I am not a member of NSBB, have visited it only twice, and do not care for most of its posters. Liverock you encountered one of the Cubs idiot fans - believe it or not ALL teams have them, including the Brewers.
  4. For those of you that made an honest assessment, I appreciate it, wish you well, and am glad that we are being seriously overlooked. Honestly I have to agree; our pitching is mediocre, the core of our team is getting old, but we did make a nice run at the end with those same players after Piniella took a well-needed hike. To those of you who had mostly sarcasm to add, I wish you a return to the glory years of 1983-2007. And to those of you that are languishing in our 102 year drought, I would remind you that the last Brewers World Series winner is best described by Buzz Lightyear.
  5. Patrick the second remote should always be connected, though it does get a little confusing to add a third and fourth. I would also throw in the Wii Fit. (unless you are scared to take a look at your weight periodically but you don't have to) Some of the balance and aerobic games on there are hilarious especially if you don't hit the ski jump just right. The aerobic stepper is an excellent workout. Tennis on the Wii Sports is also a great workout.
  6. Big question: At the the end of the day, do you take home what's left or leave it? If you take it home, then put stuff on there that you like. My thought was think antipasto tray (black olives, kalamata olives, salami, mortadella, prociutto, rosted red peppers, asiago, provolone, pepperoncini) which will work if you have any Italian influence in the family. If you are of the southeastern Wisconsin predominence of German, then substitute the smokies and some other sausage, go with swiss and cheddar, and leave off the pepperoncini. The olives and red pepper will work either way.
  7. I like being overlooked. Not that I have anything great to talk about. I'm just sayin'!
  8. Clearly the most rare of all the feats listed considering that Sandberg never hit for the cycle.
  9. Actually Colvin's got better AVG SLG OPS and HR numbers - Heyward leads only in walks and OBP - Heyward's biggest advantage is that he is playing for a contender and he started the season as "THE contender."
  10. Hey remember me? Piniella seems to have been as disinterested in managing the team as I have been in watching them. 102 and counting!
  11. The so-called "best fans in baseball" got what they deserved.
  12. Burnie, you're forgetting that Lilly is on the DL and Dempster just came off the DL with a rather poor outing. At this point in time that "set rotation" as you call it, included Hart. So right now Gorzelany is more than AAA insurance he will probably start next Tuesday. Harrison is supposed to be a decent prospect and Hart has proved that he can pitch in the "show".
  13. Yes (as stated above) It was against Texas in 2007 - and in that game he also faced only 27 batters. He walked Sammy Sosa and promptly picked him off. 1 other time he pitched a two-hitter with no walks and the team turned 2 double plays. So 3 times in his career Mark Buhrle has faced the minimum 27 batters.
  14. Had this exact thing happen (booked Friday night for a Saturday wedding then found out wedding was Friday) but it was about 9-10 years ago. Called the online discount agency that I used and was assured that it would not be possible to change a thing because the rate was severly discounted. They even yelled at me for suggesting it. We went to the airport on Friday morning to fly stand by - No problem whatsoever Bottom line if there is an empty seat and you want to fill it, they will put you in it. And they will fill your previous seat with someone else.
  15. If you buy electric, you can avoid tangling by mowing in a specific pattern. You cannot just go around the yard in circles. (experience from when I was a teen.) http://images.yuku.com/image/bmp/3e636d0f128a4f9cd216d77d2b3b91ea9ad9ed8a.bmp
  16. Absolutely get a rear-bagger even if you are not planning on bagging. At some point in the season you will bag (late when you have a lot of leaves or when a lot of rain prevented you from mowing and all of a sudden the grass is 9" long). anyway the side bagger/chute will get in the way. As far as self-propelled or not? How old are you? How long do you plan to keep the mower? Do you have any slopes to deal with? I'm 60, have 1 severe slope and wouldn't be without a self-propelled. The cord of an electric is not worth the money you will save. And don't forget that in about 2 months you will have to get a snowthrower. Congrats on home-ownership and good luck.
  17. very low risk - minimum salary to us - and don't be so sure about no impact - if he has anything left in the tank, we need another LH reliever.
  18. Remember, as smart as dogs may be, most do not have the attention span for more than a 2-syllable name. Warren Spahnial is a great but doesn't work so try Spahny or Vuk rather than Vukovich. Personally I prefer alcohol related names: my previous dog was Stoli rather than Stolichnaya and my current dog is Guinness. In that theme, Leiny, Miller, Schlitz, or Pabst would all work.
  19. 0% Downsized and paid off both with proceeds from sale of bigger house. But real estate taxes in this state suck. $8800 for a 3 BR ranch on a big postage stamp size lot.
  20. I grew up on the North side of the city and I think you're nuts for suggesting Ravenswood. I think those suggestions of Yellow line are excellent. Just remember they stop running at 11:00 PM. I would not recommend extending your stay by going down to the Taste on Friday unless you like crowds of over a million. Friday night is the big Fireworks show and it is a mob scene. Also getting from Union Station to the Red Line is a little bit of a hike (over a half mile) or cab ride.
  21. Like so many other businesses these days, Milton Bradley games and Parker Brothers games are both owned by Hasbro. Wrong - the minimum expectation is to win the division. We proved last year that winning more games than anybody else in the league means squat.
  22. In the days of vinyl, a guy across the hall from me in the barracks had 2 albums, played album 1 side A followed by album 2 side A, flipped 'em over, playing album 2 side B followed by album 1 side B, again and again ad infinitum. For that reason, any song by the band that a lot of people consider the best ever, Led Zepplin, is an absolute abomination to my ear. Yes overplayed can be bad.
  23. Lot's of songs have had lyrics like that! But how can you not love: "Making love in the green grass, behind the stadium."
  24. You're kidding, right? Guys with hangnails have been going on the 60 day DL (60 day DL stays on the 40 man but doesn't count against it) since the beginning of the DL and GM's. You can option a guy to AAA 5 times in 1 year but it's only 1 option (options are annual). Teams have been doing it since, well since forever. I once knew a pitcher for the White Sox (70's) that I went down near the bullpen to talk to and I asked what's going on. He said, "Went on the DL today." "Really? What happened?" sidelong glance "Ankle!"
  25. The Astros should definitely have the southernmost part of Texas, the Royals more of Nebraska, the Cardinals more of Oklahoma, the White Sox less of NW Illinois and more of NW Indiana, the Yankees more of Connecticut, and the Nationals less of anything. One thing this chart doesn't take into account is places like Arizona which may be a lot of D'backs fans but is also loaded with people from otherplaces who maintain their original loyalties. So maybe Phoenix shoul be MLB territory. But it is a cool map
