  1. At this point, I’d take a 9/11-type recession. Unemployment ‘only’ increased from 4%-6%. At least there’s a bottom.
  2. They just used their last bullet!! smh They should never have cut rates three times in 2019 when the economy was humming along just fine.
  3. It won’t. At least not in the short term. Most banks have full refi pipelines and are going to be hesitant to book new volume at anything less than 3%. But when their pipelines thin out, who knows?
  4. Rates to zero ... yikes.
  5. New financial goal for 2020: Keep job.
  6. What’s your objective? If it’s to speculate, I’d go with the iShares Silver Trust ETF (ticker: SLV). The transaction costs on trading physical gold and silver will eat into your profits. Do you have sales tax in Alaska? It’s a killer in Wisconsin for trading physical precious metals. You pay a 5% premium to buy, but you don’t get it back when you sell. The state keeps it.
  7. I haven’t dipped my toe in yet, but came close yesterday when Disney, Target, and P&G all got below $100. However, it looks increasingly likely that some folks may lose their jobs in the coming months. That really takes the fun out of what merely seemed like a ‘great buying opportunity’ a few weeks ago.
  8. Trivial in the context of today’s news, but ... North Dakota is currently the #1 team in the country and they’ll likely have the Frozen Four cancelled. What a bummer.
  9. Did anyone else have issues with Robinhood this week?
  10. Anyone else find it odd that silver was down last week?
  11. Notre Dame playing Big Ten hockey upsets me. That is all.
  12. I’m not going to speculate on individual stocks until the Dow goes positive for a day ... and even then, I’ll be cautious. Just a hunch, but I think this is the tip of the ice berg.
  13. Once players figure out he can’t coach, he’s not going to be able to recruit either. At least Eaves won a natty.
  14. The Dallas Stars recently fired Jim Montgomery after a year and a half, despite a pretty decent record. He apparently just checked himself in to an alcohol rehab facility (good for him for trying to get right). Assuming he sticks to his treatment, I wonder if the Badgers would touch him? Montgomery won a NCAA national championship with Denver in 2017. Another name Badger fans should keep an eye on is Dave Hakstol, the former North Dakota and Philadelphia Flyers coach (currently an assistant with the Maple Leaves). He made the NCAA tournament in all 11 seasons as head coach at UND and left on good terms when he took the Flyers job. The only knock on Hakstol is that he didn’t win a national championship at UND, despite making the Frozen Four 7 times; however, his successor won a natty in 2016 with Hakstol’s players.
  15. Guys, you’ve got to fire Granato. You have: - neat history - decent facilities - world-class academics - great fans - awseome campus Minnesota-Duluth (a team you left behind for more $), is stacking natties. Move on.
  16. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was just renewed for an 8th season by NBC. Their 7th season has yet to premiere (returns in January). It’s not all good news for the Nine-Nine, as cheddar the dog passed away last week.
  17. * Badger Hockey fan, right?
  18. I’m not really an Alex Baldwin fan either (nor a qualified judge of talent), but he absolutely crushed this role. You and I seem to have similar tastes in television (The Goldbergs, am I right?). I think you’d dig 30 Rock if you gave it a try.
  19. The best night of television in my adult life was Thursdays on NBC during the 2009-2010 season: The Office Parks & Rec 30 Rock Community That was the last time I regularly sat down for live TV. I challenge anyone to name a better 4-show lineup. Because you’ll probably look it up: Friends and Seinfeld have been paired together (94-98), Friends and Frasier have been paired together (98-00), Seinfeld and Frasier have been paired together (93-94), but all 3 were never regularly aired on the same night during the same season.
  20. Looks like you can buy the whole series on DVD for $20-$30, the cost of a couple months of Netflix. I don't understand why people are losing their minds over this. My wife and I watch Friends most nights before we fall asleep. Switching discs is a pain once you get used to streaming. Worth losing your mind? No. But a modest inconvenience? Yes. I’m frugal and will continue switching discs. We just have ad-laden Hulu for $1/month and can’t stream Friends anyway.
  21. I know there are a few B99 fans on BF. I’m just finishing the most recent season, but have been with the show since the beginning. Andre Braugher as Captain Raymond Holt might be the best actor / character on network TV.
  22. No joke. Boston doesn’t need another parade.
  23. Did anyone’s favorite show get axed this week?
  24. The original 53-episode run of Arrested Development was 10 years ahead of its time.
  25. I think Duluth is just good. Historically good. They are the first back-to-back champion since Denver in 2004 / 2005.
