  1. On another note, it's pretty sad that people are just happy that we didn't get no-hit. I have more confidence than that at least. And now we have 2 hits!
  2. What would actually be better than a rainout is if the game started, and then had to be stopped for a rain delay for a couple hours. Then Halladay probably wouldn't continue.
  3. Except that we'd probably just play a doubleheader again tomorrow.
  4. Brewers at Phillies - Weeks 4, Gomez 8, Braun 7, Fielder 3, McGehee 5, Kotsay 9, Betancourt 6, Kottaras 2, Wolf 1 Same crap. Kottaras catching Wolf again, no surprise. Don't really understand going with Betancourt instead of Counsell, since we are facing Halladay. I would've went with Counsell, and hit him 2nd, with Gomez 8th.
  5. Me too. How many times in the course of a season does any reliever pitch a random inning and not give up a run. The Brewers pen pitched 4-2/3rds scoreless innings last night. Axford clearly doesn't have his control down right now. So why make the team suffer by keeping him the closer? The Twins pulled Nathan out of the role. Let's win a few games, and in the meantime put Ax in low pressure situations while he works on his control.Agreed. It's not like Axford is a proven closer. You can't keep running him out there when he's struggling with control issues. I think the situation with Nathan has to do with him coming off of a serious injury. So the Twins are being smart and taking him out of the closers role while he works things out. Axford isn't Hoffman or Rivera. When this happened with Hoffman, he deserved a longer leash mainly because, well he's Trevor Hoffman. Axford is just a guy who had one good year, and is unproven. I don't think he should have the closers job this nailed down that he keeps getting thrown out there to struggle.
  6. Looking at the radar, it looks like the rain will be out of the area by game time. So I doubt there will be a rainout. Maybe a short delay before the game starts.
  7. The Brewers just did. I doubt their use of the rule was entirely as it was intended. The definition of bereavement is "the period after loss during which grief is experienced and mourning occurs". His father is having surgery. That's quite different. MLB should call it then "family medical leave" instead of bereavement. Seriously, Marcum wasn't scheduled to start again until Saturday or Sunday, depending upon whether Estrada gets another start. He could easily have traveled between starts to be with his dad without being taken off the roster and probably had permission to do so. Because the Brewers needed an extra arm and Hawkins was a day or two away yet, they freed one up this way. Technically within the rule I suppose but definitely stretching it. No they didn't. It doesn't matter what the definition is. It is also intended for leave under these circumstances. So no, the Brewers didn't fake anything. They used the rule as it is intended.
  8. So we'd rather see us face Halladay and Lee on the same day? That would be rough.
  9. They said they don't want Hawkins to pitch until Wednesday because he was coming off back-to-back days pitching. If we have to use a lot of arms tonight, I would guess he'll get activated for the game tomorrow. Seems like they want to wait until Friday though.
  10. I really don't think teams ever fake stays on the bereavement list. Doubt it will ever be a problem.
  11. Nevermind, found it. Must miss a minimum of 3, and maximum of 7 games. Meaning that he could return Saturday. Not sure if Roenicke plans to start him Saturday or Sunday.
  12. Yep, not sure why anyone has to apologize for anything. Still no reason for Gomez to be hitting 2nd, or for Betancourt to be playing everyday. Or for Almonte and Kotsay to be on the roster. I can go on and on.
  13. Wow, hope Marcum's dad gets through it ok. Didn't see that one coming. Prayers go out to him. Is there a minimum time he has to spend on there, or can he come back whenever?
  14. I was concerned with Axford well before the season started. He's the typical one-year wonder, unproven closer case. I was hoping for the best, but fearing the worst. So, I can't really say that I'm surprised with his struggles. I hope he can turn it around, but I'm not optimistic. Really wish we had a proven closer, instead of dealing with this the majority of the time. I guess Saito is an option once he's healthy, because he has experience. Maybe Hawkins also.
  15. I would just activate Hawkins and be done with it.
