  1. Why? It's not like all of a sudden they started nominating players who didn't deserve the award. I think there are definitely 3 OFs more deserving of a gold glove than Braun, and probably more than that. Not sure why they just started making it positional and not just 3 OFs.
  2. I would love to get Reyes personally. To lock down an elite SS like him would be huge. I'd much rather sign him than Prince. I seriously do think Melvin and Attanasio will make a big run at him. It will likely come down to offering him enough money. We'll see if they pony up the cash or not. It would definitely be a big risk, but could also end up being HUGE for the franchise. Reyes is an elite SS and one of the best players in the league when healthy. To pair him with Braun and the other talent we have for years to come would be amazing. He's also a leadoff hitter and elite defender, which we desperately need.
  3. I would like to see a Gamel/Derrek Lee platoon at 1st.
  4. I found this really funny. For the sake of the award, I hope he doesn't win. But he actually may have a shot based on his competitors. Sad, but true.
  5. Yeah, I see no reason why we wouldn't offer K-Rod arby. There's no way that he'll accept and stay here as a setup man. He'll sign somewhere else so he can close. Betancourt I can see being cautious about, but not K-Rod.
  6. I agree that we should keep Saito. And yes, it's definitely risky to offer Yuni arby. Gotta see what our other options are first. My guess is it won't happen, but never know.
  7. No, we can still offer them arbitration.
  8. So, how about Ken Macha to the Cardinals? Lol. Seems like a great fit to me.
  9. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/132938198.html Elias has their ranking out. Prince, K-Rod, and Saito are all Type A. Yuni is Type B. Pretty crazy that we'd get compensation for Yuni. Saito's doesn't matter unfortunately because it's in his contract that he can't be offered arby.
  10. I was incredibly happy when I saw this. Glad La Russa is finally gone. Have to say that my hate of the Cardinals decreases slightly with him gone. See ya Tony, we won't miss you!
  11. Ok, I should say likely for the Phillies, not the Brewers.
  12. Well Carpenter, glad karma caught up to you. You're the true POS.
  13. I'd take Oswalt, but it won't happen. Pass on Lidge for sure.
  14. 2 of Reyes/Lidge/Oswalt is possible for the Phillies, not the Brewers. The Brewers will be getting 0 of those 3.
  15. That's really cool. Would love to have that if I could afford it.
  16. Definitely agree with this. Sounds like the best course of action to me.
  17. Yeah, he's definitely a viable option if they decide to deal Morgan. I just don't see them choosing to do that. Unless Morgan is thrown into a trade with someone else. I think they'd rather stash Schafer in AAA for a full season, and have him be the guy to get the call in case of injury.
  18. There's no way I'd give Schafer the job in 2012. He needs a full year down in AAA to prove he can stay consistent and healthy. The earliest I'd give him a shot at a full-time major league job is 2013.
  19. I like that, but not a big fan of going with 2 unproven guys at 1B. I'd rather hold onto Wolf and sign Derrek Lee to platoon with Gamel. The rest is fine with me. Have a feeling they'll sign a LH 5th OF though.
  20. Yeah, I fully understand Melvin wanting to stick with the platoon for this year. It worked, so why not try it again? I'm definitely not against keeping Morgan and Gomez and giving it another go.
  21. We're not arguing about this year, or any year. The debate is which one would you keep if you had to choose one. Obviously I'd like to go with the platoon again for this year.
  22. I'm out numbered for sure in this thread, but other than Carlos being 5 years younger than Gomez I disagree with Princes' statement. If Gomez has "way more value than Morgan", then why does he only start against LH's? My point is other than PR and defense he can't compare to Morgan or other available options. I don't like either the more I think about it. An earlier poster said Morgan is more of a .270 hitter to which I agree. If so his defense and arm really are not that good and the schtick will wear thin. Keep Morgan and pick someone else up.In addition the baseball IQ for both are below average to say the least. Mental errors hurt too. I think what you need to consider is who would look better as an everyday player. Gomez's defense and running ability can't be matched. Morgan can't hit LHP (.201 career), but Gomez is pretty much even in his career against LHP and RHP (.244/.242). Granted Morgan may end up with a slightly higher average (.310 vs RHP), Gomez is more valuable due to his fielding and running. As an everyday player in the 8 hole, I take Gomez every time. Plus, he's younger and has a better chance to improve. Also, if you are taking one right now, you have a possible replacement for Morgan is necessary in Schafer. Don't have that to replace Gomez.
  23. Yeah, I agree with this. Melvin just didn't see an upgrade available or that he could afford in the offseason or at the deadline. If he finds one this offseason, he'll jump on it. I think there will definitely be affordable upgrades out there, namely Clint Barmes.
