  1. Guessing it'll be a no-name type of guy under 40 that 75% hate, 5% love and 20% are willing to see how it goes.
  2. Exactly. The argument and situation for picking Rodgers was not at all the same as the one for Love. It was a much more reasonable selection in 2005 than last year and it's not revisionist, there are plenty of reasons for that. And the turnovers are extremely relevant to me, because it is the single biggest negative play for a QB and Favre had made them his little special. His completion and yardage per play are not surprising for a Year 1 QB playing with a bunch of inexperienced WRs. Did Rodgers look like he was maybe not playing as well? Yeah, that's fair. But he still looked like he could QB a Super Bowl team. With Brett Favre, I legitimately started thinking toward the end that they weren't going to ever win another one because of him.
  3. Rodgers's decline was a 26-4 td/int ratio in Year 1 of a new scheme and losing the NFCCG because a nobody ran for 400 yards on his defense. Favre was turning the ball over between 25-35 times a year. If they hadn't signed the HOF QB through 2023 the year before, then sure. But at this point it's clear that you are OK with the pick, and I think it ticked Rodgers off and didn't help him succeed in GB in any way, shape or form. I will leave it there.
  4. Yep. It was literally the same argument 16 years ago about not giving Favre enough weapons and wasting a pick on a first round QB. Literally the same stuff. Those same people are likely now also some of the ones lamenting this stuff with Rodgers, while completely forgetting the move that got the Packers this extended run of success with another HOF QB. It's surreal, in a way. Again, this is a false equivalency. And it's not the same people, because I wasn't against picking Rodgers at all. Before Favre's geezer resurgence, his level of play had decreased substantially. He threw 38 interceptions in 2003 and 2004 while Ahman Green's legs kept the Packers in the playoffs. He threw 29 in Rodgers's rookie season. I know that those arguments exist, but I've never made the argument that Favre wasn't helped enough. After Holmgren left the Packers, I really soured on Brett Favre and thought he was too sloppy with the ball. I was happy to move on from him. I think Rodgers is an another strata than Favre personally. I think he is a much better player, even though statistics between their eras are skewed. I DO believe the Packers failed Rodgers in the back 9, but not Favre.
  5. Favre was waffling over retirement every offseason and the team was in decline, he was turning the ball over a ton. It wasn't an ascending one with a young core. I was a big fan of the Rodgers pick, but mostly because I really didn't like the player Favre had become. As I said earlier in this thread, Brady's contracts have made it easy for his teams "to do what it takes." Rodgers was already rumored to be frustrated with the team's stubbornness. He's not the boss and I respect Gute's cajones, but if you can't make splash moves in FA, I can see how he'd be peeved with a 1st round QB.
  6. Love's had no preseason at all and a weird camp, so I think any evaluation of him right now is pretty useless. But asking me who I would have picked instead is also pretty useless. I could go look at the first round and pick basically any player that was a positive contributor and just say "yeah, take him instead!" The point I was making was never who else they should have picked. It was the message it sent to Rodgers, one he verbalized, and just more evidence that I don't think he feels the Packers have done all they can do to help him win championships. Whether that's true or not is a different subject than how he FEELS about it. Which I think at this point is pretty difficult to argue.
  7. Love wouldn't have been available in 2022. They clearly like Love and 2-3 year of development more than a QB they'd draft and need to start immediately. Lol, gee, thanks, I wasn't aware. Are there no QBs in the other drafts?
  8. You seem to have missed the point. The goal of the draft is to make the team better, not just to 'try'. Queen would literally have made them worse. You just can't say 'take anybody', because the NFL doesn't work that way. You have to take the right player. As you said, you don't have to give an answer, but not giving one means you're just venting, IMO. Which I guess is fair for tonight.... No, I think you're missing the point. I literally said Rodgers doesn't strike me as a guy who thinks his team has done enough to win. Drafting a QB in the first round is just the latest example of this. If they had drafted a bust WR, I doubt Rodgers would confide to Brett Favre a month later that he "feels like the odd man out." I think this hill you're on is a bit odd as what I'm saying isn't complicated. Love wasn't a position of need, it was not even an attempt at improving Rodgers's chances. It ticked him off. The player they could have picked "working out" is totally irrelevant to what I'm saying. Any pick is a crapshoot. I was never arguing they should have picked Player X instead of Love.
  9. I have no problem with drafting Love while Rodgers is on the team. Just do it in 2022. It wasn't necessary.
  10. Correct, you don't have to give an answer. But, it's worth noting that when you state 'they should have drafted someone else' while not having any actual idea who they could/should have drafted instead, it makes it hard to take the argument seriously. For the record, the guy that many people (including a LOT here) wanted to take instead was Patrick Queen, who was literally the worst MLB in football this year. So yes, drafting a guy that didn't play a down was actually a more successful move for the Packers, as Queen would have negatively effected the results more than Love had a chance to. Sometimes, the front office IS actually better than the fans at their jobs. A backup QB did nothing to help this team in 2020. I'm not offering a name because it isn't my point. Most first round picks aren't super productive right off the bat anyway. Jordan Love doesn't help Rodgers win. Literally any other player, from a slot WR to a kicker, can do that better. If they had taken Queen, it would have at least been an attempt at addressing a weakness on the team. Not a replacement for the guy who's responsible for any success for the last 13 years.
  11. And no, Favre to Rodgers isn't an equivalency. Those were teams headed in completely different directions.
  12. I don't need to give you an answer and am frankly not qualified to do so as I don't watch college football at all and can barely name 5 guys. But I don't think it's illogical to suggest that a team coming off a 13-3 season probably could have a more "let's get over the hump" move than drafting a backup QB when they literally have one of the best in the league under contract for 4 years. I'm sure many people could give you guys they could have picked other than a backup QB. It was dumb and will always be dumb.
  13. Who did they need? Who cares, literally anyone besides a backup QB who will either prematurely force someone playing fine out of GB, or never take a snap for them. Would rather have seen a bust DT at that spot. At least that's an attempt.
  14. His worst performance was arguably the game he won, too. QB rating in the 50s. Atlanta game was whatever. They were totally overmatched. Last year too. You throw 350 yards and 3 TDs like he did today, against a very good defense, it's hard to ask much more. I dunno what to tell someone though if they don't find it all suspicious that Rodgers called his future a "beautiful mystery" BEFORE this game and then tossed himself in the ring as having an uncertain future in the post game presser when he could have easily not done that. Rodgers may have loved his teammates this year. But he does not strike me as a guy too pleased with his club doing enough to win. Personally I'm on his side of this. They didn't need Jordan Love, and you don't draft a QB in round one if you are in "win now" mode. The guy's been completely wasted by this franchise, and I'm amazed he managed to bite his tongue over the years to the level he has. To be blunt, that 1-4 mark is more indicative of Rodgers taking several teams to that game that had little business being there outside of his skills. The nature of the playoffs is obviously that you get a loss on your record if you don't win it all. It's biased against very good players on pretty decent, but not great teams.
  15. Pettine is a dead man walking. You don't throw your DC under the bus that egregiously unless you're certain he isn't going to be your DC next year. MLF had his mind made up at halftime. Maybe a win could have bought him a mulligan, but he's gone. Not to mention he almost certainly had a guy he wanted to install there when he got the job and couldn't. Well he could. But not really.
  16. Dudes now 38 for the Packers purposes. If they couldn't get this done against a very questionable NFC and home field advantage, in a game in which the opponent's geriatric QB threw them three ducks, it ain't happening. Not without whatever devil deal Tom Brady made.
  17. Ehhh, if that's all there was, yeah. But it's not. Rodgers has already stated on record he thinks he'll finish his career somewhere else. I genuinely don't think he'll be playing out this contract in GB. He's been getting awfully deep about his mysterious future lately. Yeah he said that because they drafted a QB. So what? That's a very relevant factor at play. It was a first round pick that could have brought him closer to getting over the hump. Instead a guy at his position. You don't think that possibly nudged him in a direction?
  18. Reid's Eagles did. Then won the 4th one and lost the Super Bowl. Rams did in the 70s too. Cowboys from 80-82. Probably others.
  19. Ehhh, if that's all there was, yeah. But it's not. Rodgers has already stated on record he thinks he'll finish his career somewhere else. I genuinely don't think he'll be playing out this contract in GB. He's been getting awfully deep about his mysterious future lately.
  20. He sounds like a guy who's sick of breaking records to see his efforts seriously hampered by either front office inactivity or very bizarre in game coaching or some combination of both. I don't absolve Rodgers of ALL blame, he played a nice game, but he did have two chances to take the lead, a third to tie, and couldn't. I think he's sick of this. Just my gut feeling, but I get the sense if the Packers wanted to move with Love, he would be more of a "Well OK, I'm off to San Francisco," and be pretty happy about it. I think he's ready to embrace moving on. I would have been six years ago.
  21. With you. I think this is how many feel. I'll never buy into how this team "looks" again unless it's a completely turned over group of people. They deserve the reputation they have now. Today was inexcusable. It's the catastrophic failure I said it would be if they didn't win the NFC.
  22. We're not headed to cap hell and I don't blame Rodgers for anything. I think he wants to go somewhere else and I think the Packers are tired of paying one position so much money.
  23. I think 2021 is very likely Rodgers's final season in GB.
  24. I hate Pettine but it will take some cajones to ax a DC on a 13-3 team that looked pretty good defensively for the final 1/3...and basically have up a field goal in the second half and forced 3 picks. The reason it could happen is that he's a holdover, but I will still be surprised if it does.
  25. ? King went to Washington? And Hyde was pretty good?
