You could also fire on all cylinders on July 29 and lose anyway. Nobody think it's guaranteed but you play the high probability path. I personally wouldn't care if they told Miz to go fishing for 6 weeks. -
And even he had a lousy playoff start that sunk the ship.

If they lost to the good teams the rub would be that they aren't good enough to beat the best. They lose to the crappy ones and it's a "bad look." It's baseball and they are going to have skids. I wouldn't quite say the division is wrapped up but it is in good hands, the playoffs are a lock, and the Cubs welcome the Yankees and Dodgers once they finish with St. Louis. They're fine. They need the top arms ready for October. Nothing outside of that really matters right now. Even if 1-9 were raking it wouldn't mean much 2 months from now.

I keep hearing things like this, online and from my friends. I don't really agree. The fact is that on paper the Brewers are still a valley away from LAD when it comes to starpower. Sending off our best assets, who are kids on the farm, for a rentals or one single veteran, is just not something that I think does anything to combat what LAD is. Let's say we landed Jose Ramirez tomorrow, it wouldn't make anybody say we're the favorite against the Dodgers. I don't think Skubal does that for them either. I think we're better off on the boring path, continuing to draft, develop, and be there every year, knowing that eventually, either LA goes cold and loses before we even play them, or it happens when they play us. That's really it for me. We just can't afford to trade our kids. Yes even if there's an alleged logjam at a position, we don't actually know who pans out at the MLB level. I just don't see the appeal of doing it when we're incredibly successful doing it our way.

Eh. They have big assets tied up in Wyatt, Parsons, Hargrave, picked up LVN's option. He asked for a trade because they can't get a long-term deal done. Turns 32 around the Super Bowl. Plays about 50% of the defensive snaps. Wants to play in California. They can't afford him.

I "like" the MB thing just because it's old and I was a kid when they wore them. The design itself is extremely ugly. I was too young to have any memories of the original ball & glove teams. My first real season I remember is 1994. So Motre Dame just brings back my childhood. They were also just terrible. It's kinda weird to me anyone likes that logo or that they use it in any form. I do still absolutely love the original, purple Angry Buck logo from that time period.

I thought Kyler Murray was so incredibly "meh" even when he was being hyped up a couple years ago. I just don't see it with him, but they got him for nothing and McCarthy is a bust, so they can't be worse there. I think they'll be in last place.

Maybes dictating 6-12 wins is probably the very typical existence of NFL teams whose QB isn't Mahomes, Rodgers etc. Probably something we should just get used to. I am not sure the division is that tough either. I think the Lions are finished as far as title window goes. The Bears are the competition. I guess tough in that I don't think any of the teams are top contenders.

I think that stops working at a point though. You keep running it back thinking you're the same mid team, but eventually you're just pretty bad. It's a tough team to peg right now. There's definitely some real talent bubbling to the surface, Golden looks like a really good player and Watson has really found the next gear. I just don't see much depth and very little in the way of contingency plans. Too much money tied up in a couple players that aren't the difference makers they're paid to be. I like Parsons and Love, too, but one is going to miss more than half the season and the other really hasn't ascended to the level we'd hoped. I think Love is definitely good enough to be QB on a championship team, but not sure this team is good enough. RB is pretty frightening. CB is contingent on a pass rush that we don't have until November. Every team has uncertainty, but we seem to have it in spades.

Reliever, reliever, reliever. I think last year has people snakebitten and thinking they are farther from LA than they really are. They got cold at an awful time. They're not the sexiest lineup but they can do enough. Miz is the Wild Card that if he's on he can shut anyone down. The biggest hole for me is the closer spot. They will have to close a few high pressure 2-1 games to win the World Series and I am nauseous about MeGill or Uribe doing that. Doesn't mean they can't or that they're bad players, but it's the weakness.

Meh. Old man shakes fist at clouds. Let's say that it was Americanized. Well, it was in America and they want Americans interested. I know this hurts the rest of the world to hear, but America has a lot of money that would be very good for soccer. It's hardly an American thing for a culture to put their own spin on anything. These same guys hated the Brazilians 50 years ago because they did too many fancy tricks.

Aye, moves like this are always weighed against a mythical set of alternatives and not against what the alternatives are at the time the decision was made. In other words, yeah we could go down the line and find a 1-year guy who was a better use of that money, but that's easy to do after the fact, and we could have just as easily spent it on something even worse. That said, I don't think we should just give a pass to any decision that's made because we're X games out in first place. A decent reliever for $22 million would look nice right now. -

I mean they could have done a lot worse than what he did give them when he did play, 109 innings of 3-ERA pitching is far from their worst investment. He is probably totally washed at this point, yet we have Lance McCullers throwing for us at the moment. Keuchel. Zimmerman. We have a train of these guys constantly despite whatever backlog in the system people want to refer to. I'm completely indifferent to telling Woodruff thanks for the memories, now get lost, but my point was that Woodruff's next deal, if there is one anywhere, will be for next to nothing. We end up with a flier guy like this every year. I don't think it's that big of a deal if they let him hang around in the hopes he can throw a few innings in '28. They're only going to do that if it makes complete sense for them and there's no risk involved. -

They'd obviously only work something out with him if it made sense on their end. They're not going to pay him $10 million next year to rehab. This would have to be a minor league deal or vet minimum something or other on the hope that he can be a reliever in '28. -
I mean aren't they doing the plan? He hasn't pitched in 13 days and then went 4 innings.

If they had any inclination Miz was legitimately hurt he'd be completely shut down already. It's July 21 not Game 6 of the World Series.

The #1 reason I hate replay is the buzz kill effect. The whole stadium goes nuts celebrating for a full minute and then it gets wiped out by a review. All the sports have this but VAR is the worst. There's nothing lamer than not wanting to celebrate a huge moment because you're waiting for New York/VAR to stay quiet. I hate it, and in the NFL in particular the calls consistently come back questionable anyway. It hasn't solved anything. There's as much controversy as ever.

The problem with VAR is that they're using it to replace officiating instead of complement it. We don't need a review on an obvious goal only to find out the sensor in the ball activated and it brushed some fabric on a Croatian player. That's not why any sport has replay. I am also a bit tired of unseen fouls getting called during VAR for something else. That's like reviewing a fumble and seeing holding in the back and deciding you're calling holding. It's stupid. As is calling back goals for a foul that happened 45 seconds ago. If it didn't get called, it didn't get called. Then again, the NFL consistently gets calls wrong after instant replay so I am tempted to just say, as I've said many times, just get rid of it all and go back to living with incorrect calls. I like offsides personally, find it very easy to grasp, I just don't like how it's called. The spirit of the rule is obviously to prevent somebody from hanging out on the opponent's half waiting for bombs. It shouldn't really matter if somebody's shoulder is 3 inches off. It's just dumb. Lastly...yeah, the 6-4 game was fun, but it was fun because it was a 3rd place game that neither team showed up with any anxiety for, and it was a slop fest. I'm sure the general observer thought it was fun, but it was far from the best tournament games I've seen personally.

I am all for the 64-team tournament. That was a huge net positive this go-around, I absolutely love the group stage, it's by far my favorite part of the tournament. I work remotely and there was just nothing better than wall-to-wall games for 3 weeks. It was one of my favorite things ever as a sports fan. The more teams in this tournament the better. The number of people around the world who get into it, makes it what it is. I know many purists hated it, but I thought it was great. Predictably, the cream rose anyway in the end and we had the four best teams IMO. The one issue soccer is going to have in the near future is the loss of mega icon players. Obviously there are always new ones coming (Yamal) but at the next cup Kane is 36, Mbappe is a 32-year-old speed player, Ronaldo is gone and Messi very likely as well. Messi and Ronaldo were really unique in that they were still capturing kids who were 6 years old as 40-year-olds. That doesn't really happen. The loss of those two looms large in terms of the sport being absorbed in the US as a commercial product. Haaland is definitely going to be Atlas here shortly. I am in no way saying the sport is in trouble worldwide, but those two guys are just enormous cleats to fill. Most excited for North America joining the next COPA. That's a huge step forward for the US, they really need to be in that tournament.

Spain was clearly the best team in the tournament. Their lack of really blowing anyone out overshadowed that they were scored on once the entire time. Still a bit bummed to see Messi lose, but glad he did get to win it. I have a gut feeling he'll be back for 2030 but maybe that's just fantasy stuff. I felt myself getting sad every time someone lost 😂. I couldn't help it. I just felt bad for the players and fans and how much they put into this tournament. Definitely in the dumps it's over. So glad I bit the bullet and attended a USA game too. It's going to be a long four years. The Golden Ball was the only disappointment. That was such a lame selection. To me, that was Messi without a doubt.
