  1. Witrado has baseball knowledge, he's just not a very good writer, and in my opinion he seems to be a fan first and reporter second. Don't know how many were aware of this but Witrado was drafted by the Marlins out of high school. They were stacked at his position and he was by no means a super prospect, so he just went to school instead ... but he does know the sport.
  2. Even Bedard and Lori Nickel are very strong. They do an outstanding job with the Packers. I personally think Haudricourt is pretty good. He's a bit of a homer, which does get annoying, but I think he's solid.
  3. 26, but he was like 22 when he started at the MJS, which is almost unheard of.
  4. He got his job because he's a minority and so is Garry Howard, the clown editor at the JS. It is almost unheard of for someone that young to get a beat job with a professional team. They booted Rick Braun off the beat and gave it AW. Braun was not perfect, but he was a hell of a lot more tactful than AW. He at least didn't do anything to warrant losing his job, but that's Garry Howard for you.

  8. Yeah, just having some fun.
  9. First ever walk-off by the visiting team, definitely would have scared me too.
  10. What exactly are these? Anyone have a picture?
  11. I thought you didn't care what they did. Sorry.
  12. Um, I don't know, but this sure sounds like clueless MP workers blowing smoke up your hole. My guess is that she said certificate of authenticity and the employee automatically thought "gift certificate," which can be printed for the Fan Zone off the website. Printing out a COA just sounds very weird. I mean there would only be one COA for each item, I don't see how that would work.
  13. I'm not saying Hall will tank it, I'm saying that there's a point where it becomes difficult to give it your best when you're unhappy. If he really becomes that miserable, the tanking eventually becomes subconscious.
  14. Yes, but I also remember when the Brewers were 24-10. Many said they could play .500 ball and still win 88 games. We all know what happened. It's just too early. Not saying things will change, but there's 2/3 of the season left. Just way too early to give up right now man.
  15. Let's say the Cubs and Brewers keep this 6-8 game distance, then on July 25-27 the Cubs lose three and the Brewers win two or three. Four game series at MP, Brewers are 4-6 games or so back. Way too early to concede anything. The season is 1/3 over!
  16. Do you really want to put a guy in the field who doesn't want to play for your club? I don't. At some point his play will become Sheffield-esque, even if he's not doing it on purpose. Eventually it becomes impossible to stay motivated.
  17. The Cubs will not keep this pace. Ryan Theriot is not a .320 hitter, Zambrano is not a strong second half player, and Ryan Dempster is Ryan Dempster. It's way too early to hand anything to anyone. If the Brewers can play well for the next two months and keep within, say, eight games, there's a four-gamer at MP with the Cubs at the end of July. After that series, we should have a pretty good idea of our chances.
  18. Marc - I agree with your points, but the Brewers options are limited if Hall is unwilling to platoon. The fact is that Hall has no right to complain about a platoon right now. I'd rather have a Dillon/Branyan platoon than a Branyan/guy who wants out platoon. B/D doesn't scare me any more than B/H. Hall is not any better than either of those guys. He hasn't been for a while now.
  19. Hall has been less than peachy over the last year or so. He was not exactly a team player when it came to moving back to third, his "nothing in the past four years makes sense" comment a couple of days ago, and now a trade request. Compare it to Braun, who almost seemed happy to be moved to the OF. And Braun's complaining would actually be justified, since he, ya know, contributes. I'm just tired of Hall having the floor. To be blunt, he's simply not good enough for his opinion and happiness to matter. I'm sure Joe Dillon would like to play a lot more too but no one is overly worried about him. At this point Hall isn't worth the distraction.
  20. At this point I just don't see a drop-off anywhere if the Brewers lose Hall. If someone in the IF were injured you would probably see Escobar get a call.
  21. Well, my thinking was that the Brewers had Braun in the wings. With the other players in the lineup, I didn't see the sense in keeping Hall. Rather than just let him walk, I wanted to see him dealt in 2006. I kind of had a "gut feeling" that he would not duplicate his 2006 season. I also thought they would need money to keep other players, but I was admittedly surprised that Hall's contract was as small as it was. I thought he would be pricier, which was one reason I wanted him traded ... but even so, I still felt like he was a logical guy to serve as trade bait. But I still contend that Hall had some very noticeable flaws in his game that were there from day one. When he had some success and became heavily scouted, his flaws became magnified. With Sheets, it's apples and oranges. With pitching you have to take bigger gambles than you do with field players. I'm all for giving the porcelain Sheets a contract extension right now. The odds are that he will get hurt again, but with a pitcher like that, it's a risk you have to take. Field players are more expendable.
  22. You can bet that he was aware of it. Frankly, I'm tired of Bill Hall's whining. I don't why this guy is being afforded such a soap opera. He has not shown a glimmer of productivity after signing his contract extension. He's nowhere near good enough to have the right to complain about playing time or positional changes. He needs to reassess his ability and understand that his role is most likely career super sub.
  23. Minnesota fans are a fickle bunch, and that's something you'll most of them will readily admit. It covers all of their sports too. I understand it with the Wolves and Vikings because they've been nothing but losing teams for the most part. But the Twins HAVE won titles, and the fan bases in that state have just always seemed overly pessimistic to me.
  24. I did this too, and it was a very, very unpopular opinion at the time. I never liked Bill Hall as a player. Even at the beginning of last season, in the middle of the hot start, I was still an advocate of dealing him, and everyone at another Brewers site ridiculed me, called me clueless and said Hall would get it together. Well here we are now, and it's pretty east to see who was right and wrong. One thing I don't get is those who are saying the Brewers can't trade Hall because if someone gets hurt they need a replacement. Bill Hall is that guy?? Have you looked at his stat sheet? He is the anti-production. His fielding was bad and his hitting and production at the plate are atrocious. You can find anyone in MLB to do what he's doing right now.
