  1. Mets are pretty desperate for pitching given their starting staff is the walking wounded right now, so I'm not shocked they picked him up even if it's just to east some innings. Even on a small market squad, $1 million is chump change for kicking the tires on a SP. It didn't work out and you move on. If we're talking trade chips before the deadline, Garza is the one you hope pitches well enough to at least get a spare batting cage replacement wheel level prospect or two for a rental in a couple of months. http://media.ign.com/boardfaces/44.gif
  2. If the team stays relatively healthy, I think they got a shot at .500 this year. Maybe we'll actually luck out and get more than a bag of baseballs and some batting cage replacement wheels for Garza at the deadline. http://media.ign.com/boardfaces/44.gif
  3. I'd say FWIW, the current team has matched last years win total with 13 games to go. For a team that basically tore it down and had no expectations, I'd say it's a positive step in the right direction given last years squad at least to start the year had expectations of being a borderline playoff contender, at least on paper.
  4. I think at this point it's safe to say the Brewers won that trade. Players can fall off, but outside of injury, rarely have I seen a deadline player completely fall off a cliff so badly like Carlos has n the last 12 months.
  5. Stearns continuing to reload the farm system. Lucroy was gonna walk in 15 months and Smith has two progressively expensive arbitration years left after this season. Definitely okay with both trades today given were still at least 2018 before potentially contending again.
  6. The only thing Peralta did for us was cost a 1/5th of the amount to suck than Lohse did last year. It was pretty much a no brainer once Garza came off the DL. Hopefully some time in the minors will get Wily righted, but for now it's important to see if Matt can at least rebound from a pretty bad 2015. He can't suck any worse than the guy he's replacing.
  7. Even if this team is still around .500 at the all-star break and still within reasonable striking distance of a what could be a weak wild card race in the NL this year, I agree with the above sentiment we should still be sellers at the deadline. This team has done a lot of good to date given a lot of people projected them to be a 90+ loss team (and that could still happen), but this team is still not a serious pennant contender. If guys like Villar can bring back a decent prospect or two at the deadline, I don't think Stearns should hesitate to push the trade button. It's nice to see the guys playing hard regardless and how much better they were than a year ago even if it's just fundamentally.
  8. Best case scenario, we're probably gonna be stuck paying at least a portion of what Garza is owed over the next two years regardless if he can come back and pitch well enough to become a decent trade chip or not so he's gonna need some starts. Wily just needs to be demoted to AAA and reset himself. He's basically been this year's version of Lohse in the rotation with the only silver lining being he's costing us a 1/5th of what Lohse did to suck every fifth day.
  9. When is Garza due back? I don't see how Wily doesn't get demoted if he has options left. Dude needs to reset and work on his stuff in the minors for awhile.
  10. Probably aren't gonna get a ton of W's against the Cubbies this year, so I'll gladly take'em when we can get'em.
  11. Even if the team isn't very good on paper right now, where they are now versus a year ago is a breath of fresh air. Playing more sound and fundamental baseball at the plate with a group of veteran and young players playing hard together. Given the rebuild that's starting, to me that's about the best you can ask from these guys. Pitching has probably been the biggest issue, but if it's gonna struggle, better to have the youngsters taking their licks then watch overpaid aging vets like Garza and Lohse getting shelled every 5 days and having their respective ERAs balloon over 6 like last season.
  12. Pretty interesting how a team that many thought would potentially lose 100 games this year is already far better through the first 10 games than a team a year ago many thought was a playoff contender. I'm not complaining though as it's good to see the big league roster playing competitive baseball which gives me a bit more hope when some of our prospects start coming up, better things will be on the horizon. They may eventually fall off a cliff at some point this season and get on a losing streak, but I'll enjoy this despite Peralta doing his best Kyle Lohse impression so far.
  13. I'm fine with most of the moves Stearns made. When you're looking at 55 to 75 wins per season, you still suck at the end of the day. The best chance the previous roster had at doing anything was in 2014 before they completely fell off a cliff in the second half. It was fools gold at best and it was good to see Melvin shifting into Stearns that now was the right time to tear it down with Pittsburgh, Chicago, and St. Louis looking to be playoff contenders for the immediate future at least. The major league roster might be the division punching bag for the next two years, but at the end of the day, this is what was going to need to happen if they were ever going to get back to being a competitive team again. Whether the squad this year has it's worst season since 2002 and lose over 100 games, or some of our youngsters step up and some how claw us to around 70 wins, this is still a rebuild for the future now. I'm just glad the ball began rolling on it last year and we can at least look forward to some moves and prospects working their way up and potentially contributing to this team being a contender again in a few years instead of band aid moves trying to compete now that Melvin had been trying to do since 2011.
  14. Stearns continues to build the farm system with expendable major league talent. A lot of young arms and 5 prospects now in the Top 100. The major league club might suck for a couple years, but for a team that badly needed to reload, they're finally heading in the right direction imo.
  15. Low risk, potential decent upside signing. The team will be lucky to win 70 games this year anyways and they need to throw some experienced major league level bodies out there regardless of what Stearns is doing to revamp the farm system.
  16. Stearns traded one year of Lind for some young pitching prospects. I'm fine with it because you can never have enough good prospects in your system. It's not like this team was going to be a playoff contender next year anyways where we were going to need Lind's bat and experience at 1B anyways.
  17. Even if the trades themselves don't amount to much outside of a proverbial reshuffling of the deck chairs as far as competing long term, I like the fact the guys he's acquired are good at the small ball. You can never have enough guys who make a solid effort to get on base which is something this swing hitting squad has sorely been lacking in recent years.
  18. I had always liked KRod, but this is a sign Stearns is serious about rebuilding the roster and reloading the farm system. No vet is off the trade block for the right price and we can use some decent IF depth in the minors.
  19. Figured the Royals would win, just took a game less than I thought. :P Glad a lot of former Brewers were able to get a ring. Maybe one of these millienia, our franchise will finally get one.
  20. As well as the Mets have been playing, I don't think the long layoff is going to benefit them much. KC is playing just as well and are going to want to redeem themselves for their Game 7 loss to SF last season. KC Yosts in 6.
  21. As impressive as it was New York sweeping Chicago, I just don't see any NL team beating the Royals at this point. They've been playing just as well as New York and won't have had as long a layoff in between series. Props to Toronto for extending the series a couple games, but I think KC gets it done tomorrow and they take the WS in six.
  22. I know a lot of Brewers fans don't want to see Chicago get to let alone win the World Series, but I couldn't help but be amazed and laugh a bit if the Cubs would win it all this season just because of the Back to the Future 2 prediction.
  23. Not overly surprised. This is Stearns first real day in the GM role and he's not wasting time implementing the changes he wants to his team. It's going to be interesting to see how he shapes the roster and what moves he'll make. He's definitely got at least a few worthwhile trade chips still and I don't expect him to go balls deep into free agency.

  25. With how our young pitchers have done, unless they hope Garza can regain some of his value by pitching the first half next season or you move him to long relief out of the bullpen, I'd say if you can find a team that can give you a halfway decent prospect and will take on a portion of his salary, you pull the trigger. I can understand his frustration to an extent given how his contract is structured, but he doesn't need to be pulling a drama queen act in the clubhouse and moving him would send a message it's team first. Unless Braun specifically requests to be traded, I don't see any reason not to keep him, although moving him to first base and trading Lind seems like a no brainer at this point. There's something to be said for veteran leadership and the guy is committed to the organization. I'm 50/50 on Lucroy. While he has an injury history, if I felt in any way shape or form Moldonado was the long term answer there, I'd pull the trigger on a trade in a heart beat. Mold's is such an offensive black hole though and Lucroy has been the best C this team has had in ages in a position that has been a weakness in DM's tenure.
