Don't really blame the Brewers for not picking up the option. I think there would have been a good chance it would have been exercised had we not had Suppan's ridiculous contract still on the books for '10. I suppose it does help water down the available FA pitching pool that much more, and there's always a chance we could re-sign him for less than the $5.5 million additional he would have been due on top of his $1 million buyout. Hopefully they'll be looking at better options in both FA and trades now. Can't do much worse than a 5.22 ERA while leading the bigs in dingers given up.

You unfortunately have to account for the roughly $24.4 million in "dead" money on the Brewers payroll this upcoming season in Suppan, Riske, and Hall's contracts. (Yes, Suppan will more than likely be on the roster this upcoming season, but he's worth no more than a 1/4th of his '10 salary at most) This is before you even get to arbitration raises too. I'd much rather let Salome and Lucroy battle it out for the starting catchers gig with Rivera backing them up with the loser of that competition down at AAA to start the season then re-sign Kendall period, even if his contract would be cheap. If we're going to go young, let these guys get their legs under them at the MLB level. (Gomez, Lucroy/Salome, Escobar, Gamel, etc.) I don't really see the Brewers being big players for Lackey, but I definitely could take them taking a flyer or two on some cheap questionable starters as well as still pulling a trade for someone. If they can ship Hart somewhere (maybe in a package of a few players) and then move Braun to RF, Gamel into LF, and then keep McGehee at 3rd, I think that would more than make-up for the offensive production lost by letting Cameron walk. I can also see the benefit of both picking up and declining Looper's option. You can never have enough pitching depth imo, even as mediocre as Looper was last season, he was still the most durable starter we had outside of Gallardo. If you let him go, you better make sure that $5.5 million saved goes towards someone who can actually keep their ERA at least the mid 4's.

If he pitches like he did this season next year, it's well worth the money. Our bullpen was pretty suspect until he came off the DL.

The guy played for the Express in the NWL in 2006 and he was very good that year. For him earn to earn a spot in a starting MLB rotation just 3 years later is pretty damn impressive.

I think part of the reason Kendall played as much as he did last season was to make sure he hit those escalators for his '09 option year. He did, so now he can hopefully take a bit more time off but still be the starting catcher most days.

Maybe we'll luck out and he'll pull a Favre and want to come back right before or during spring training. :P

I kind of feel the same way I did when Scotty won a ring with Chicago in 2005. Definitely glad for him. Jenks may not have been overly stellar the last couple of years he played with Milwaukee, but he stuck with this organization that brought him up, and to see him get such a clutch hit in the World Series was definitely nice to see.

Just put a smaller banner next to the 1982 AL Champions one that says 2008 NL Wild Card. I think that would be more than sufficient.

Let's pray a deal really is "imminent". I'm sick of not being able to watch Badger games when they're on the BTN. Now if Charter would just get a deal done with NFLN...

The fact that Charter is 20 billion in debt and on the verge of filing for bankruptcy has me feeling we won't be seeing NFLN or BTN anytime soon, which is all the more disheartening considering TW just got a deal done with BTN and will start broadcasting the Badger games in their markets on Saturday. I would switch to DirecTV in a heartbeat if I had a choice, but my landlord won't allow me to get Satellite installed on the property unless there is a dish already there. Since there isn't, I'm essentially stuck with cable and Charter is the only option in my area. (Eau Claire) I'll probably at least upgrade to HD now that Charter has at least added FSNHD to their lineup giving me enough of a reason to get it, so I'll at least be able to see all the Brewers HD games in the final month of the season. Edit: Actually, I just read that it looks like a deal will be getting done soon with Charter and BTN at least since a deal with TW got reached this week. I just hope it's sooner than later.
